In Japan, filled with beautiful cherry blossom scenery, the Higashi-Yodo embankment is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot in the Kansai region. Located in Yawata City's Yodogawa River Park, the embankment is lined with cherry trees for about 1.4 kilometers, forming a magnificent cherry blossom tunnel. Every year in early April, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, the entire embankment is covered with a pink sea of flowers, becoming an enchanting cherry blossom avenue. Visitors can enjoy the splendid cherry blossom views from the park's grassy plaza and observation deck, while also enjoying the pleasure of picnicking. Access to the Higashi-Yodo embankment is very convenient. It takes about half an hour from Kyoto by Keihan train to reach Yawata City's Nanajo Station, and then a 15-minute walk to the embankment. Along the way, there are signs guiding the route to the cherry blossom viewing spots, which is very convenient. Although the cherry blossom scenery here may not be as elegant as Kyoto's, its spacious space and picnic atmosphere attract many independent travelers and locals. On the way to the embankment, you can also buy food at convenience stores or enjoy a bento at the entrance, making the cherry blossom viewing trip even more perfect.

There’s a supermarket along the way selling picnic snacks. 📬 Tips: ❶ Lots of tourists—walk further in for fewer crowds. ❷ The grass on the right side near the entrance is sparse and backlit in the morning, so fewer people take photos there, but it’s actually great for empty shots. ❸ There’s a stamp station at the entrance—don’t miss it if you collect stamps. ❹ Arrive before 9 AM. The entire embankment is lined with beautiful cherry trees, perfect for wide shots—no need to fixate on that one viral tree! 📍 Daigoji Temple 🚇 Transport: Take the Keihan Railway to "Rokujizo Station," then transfer to a bus and get off at "Daigoji-mae." 💰 Cost: ¥1,800 (all-access pass) / ¥800 (single hall). 📬 Tips: ❶ The Reihokan and Garan areas are more photogenic, but the all-access pass offers better value. ❷ The temple’s restaurant is crowded—consider eating before visiting. ❸ All three halls sell the all-access pass—don’t just queue at the entrance. 🍣 Food Recs: 🟠 Sumo Chaya Yagura: A random family restaurant near Rokujizo Station—later found out it might be run by sumo wrestlers. Their tempura teishoku (set meal) was decent. 🟢 Ginza Kagari: Oysters were sold out, so we tried the chicken paitan ramen—rich broth, no wait at 5:30 PM.

Upon arriving at Kansai Airport, we took the Haruka train to Kyoto and stayed at the Ala Hotel Kyoto near Kyoto Station. It’s just about an 8-minute walk to the hotel, which is super convenient! After dropping off our luggage, we headed to Fushimi Jukkokubune. Unfortunately, the boat ride reservations were already fully booked, and it wasn’t possible to reserve even a month in advance. However, simply walking around the area without taking the boat still allowed us to enjoy the stunning scenery! After visiting Fushimi Jukkokubune, we went to Sewari-tei to admire the cherry blossoms. The main focus of the day was visiting these two spots for cherry blossom viewing. Haha! We were so lucky to see the blossoms in full bloom. Walking from the station to Sewari-tei took some time, but the cool weather and strong breeze made it quite pleasant. Even before reaching Sewari-tei, we could see the breathtaking view from afar—a whole row of cherry blossoms! It was so beautiful. Many people were picnicking under the cherry trees, creating a very relaxing atmosphere. I absolutely loved it here. After enjoying the cherry blossoms, we returned to Kyoto Station.

A Weekend Warrior's Shanghai-Kyoto Round Trip to Catch the Last of the Cherry Blossoms Saturday early morning Shanghai-Osaka flight 7:00-10:20, prepared for a smooth immigration process. With Haruka delayed by 40 minutes, decisively opted for the bus. Bus departed at 11:20, arrived in Kyoto around 13:00 after a 1.5-hour journey. Headed straight to Philosopher's Path from Kyoto Station. Day 1 Route: Philosopher's Path - Daifuku Shrine - Nanzen-ji Temple - Maruyama Park - Kodai-ji Temple. Power walked the entire route, finished touring by 16:30 and returned to hotel. Stayed near Shijo Kawaramachi, very convenient with shopping right downstairs. After shopping at drugstores, returned to hotel for a brief rest and even managed to join a conference call. Went downstairs for dinner at 19:00, walked to Takase River (8-minute walk) to photograph cherry blossoms at night. Found a random yakitori place in Kiyamachi, after dinner took a digestive walk along Kamo River. Day 2 Route: Woke up early to visit Sewaritei (unfortunately it rained on April 13), only stayed briefly. Took train from Sewaritei to Fushimi Jukkokubune (30 minutes). The Fushimi boat rides start at 10:00, so arriving around 9:30 is fine. Fushimi Jukkokubune was in its cherry blossom snowfall period - Kyoto's aesthetics are truly flawless and extremely photogenic. Left at 11:00 for Takashimaya to grab lunch and continue shopping. Afternoon bus to Kansai Airport 17:10-18:49, more shopping at duty-free shops, finished shopping and caught the 21:30 flight back home.
