The Yamagata Prefectural Museum "Bunshokan" is a designated Important Cultural Property and has been used as a filming location for movies. It was used as the prefectural office and assembly hall until 1975, and the interior from that time has been preserved with explanations. You can tour each room by following the designated route. There is also "Tsuki Cafe Bunshokan" inside the building, so you can take a rest after your tour! The assembly hall, gallery, and meeting rooms are also rented out, and exhibitions and concerts are sometimes held there. Admission is free. Business hours are from 9:00 to 16:30. Bunshokan Bunshokan is a three-story English Renaissance red brick building located in Yamagata City. It was built in 1916 and was previously used as a government office and city hall. It has now been renovated into a museum and is free to visit! The atmosphere is like being transported into the Khun Chai Chutathep drama. The interior is grand and luxurious. The entrance hall has marble columns, furniture, chandeliers, carvings, carpets, and curtains. It was also a filming location for the 2020 drama Dang Duang Hathai. Don't miss it if you're a fan of this drama! The highlight here is the "Central Clock Tower", the second oldest mechanical clock in Japan. It's a mechanical clock that uses a weight to work and has been telling the time for over 100 years.
