• Getting There - Xishan island is just 2 hours drive from Shanghai situated adound the Suzhou area - It's is a peaceful, quiet place. • Attractions - Taihu Lake, Shigong Mt, Temples • Hotels - XiangZhang Xiaoyuan theme inn - basic, simple, nice for a weekend stay. If you've got a bigger budget I'd recommend staying on the main road near the waterside - Dadao Hotel is a goodie! • Food & Restaurants - Local Chinese cuisine on every corner. We enjoyed the scenic lake view and the tranquil environment. Unfortunately, the Xishan scenic Mountain park is closed until further notice as the temple is under renovation. A real pity and there is no indication about what's open and what's not (part of the adventure!). The attractions seem almost abandoned. There are other various temples open -Shigong Mountain scenic area which is 50 RMB per person. The Temple of the King Yu(禹) is located at the shore of the Taihu Lake - 25 RMB per person. If you visit the island make sure to go with your own car (or a hire a car) as most spots are not nearby one another. The homestay on Xishan Island is too comfortable to live in

I booked this homestay by coincidence. A few days ago, I saw a home blogger post that they had built a three-bedroom mini villa in Xishan Island. After landing, we took a taxi directly to Xishan Island. We arrived on the island at two in the afternoon, had lunch and rested for a while, then waited for the sunset along Taihu Lake. When we saw the sunset, we finally understood what 'the sky is still full of rosy clouds' means. The yellowish glow filled our eyes, giving us a visual impact and endless praises. After enjoying the sunset, we also faintly saw the Milky Way by the lake. Although the scenery was lacking, the experience was full. 2. The next day, we left the island early in the morning to go to Zhouyou Ancient Town. Although it was National Day, the weather was still hot. We arrived at the ancient town in the afternoon. To avoid heatstroke, we rested in the homestay for a while. When the sun set, we went out to find food and enjoy the night view. Perhaps due to regional differences, there were not many tourists visiting the ancient town at night, so we captured the peaceful and tranquil Jiangnan town.
