The flowers of Northern Xinjiang bloom splendidly in summer, with snow-capped mountains and grasslands, forest pastures, glacial lakes, canyons and rivers, Gobi deserts, and the hoofbeats of cattle, sheep, and horses.

Leaving Yili has a stronger aftereffect than a breakup
💚Every day here is like living in a fairy tale, under the snow-capped mountains🏔️, it's so beautiful that it doesn't seem like the real world.
📝Every day on the small loop of Yili is like living in a fairy tale.
🙏Thanks to this healing and redemption from nature, every moment has enriched my life💚.
✨Sharing some personal experiences and tips for friends who are about to set off👇🏻
🚗Itinerary reference:
📅DAY1: Hangzhou-Lanzhou (transfer)-Yining Airport
📅DAY2: Yining-Sayram Lake-Guozigou-Qingshui River
📅DAY3: Qingshui River-Chaxi Forest Park-Tekes Bagua City
📅DAY4: Tekes-Junggar Plateau-Back Mountain (horse riding)-Tekes
📅DAY6: Tekes-Aktas-Tianma Bathing River-Yuhu-Zhaosu
📅DAY7: Zhaosu-Shata Hiking-Return to Yining
📅DAY8: Yining-Chengdu (transfer)-Hangzhou
✔Practical information:
💰Now the prices in Yili are rising, and the Duku Highway is about to open, book as early as possible! This year is not suitable for budget travel, the experience will not be too good. We average 1w per person (including airfare/charter/accommodation/buying special products, etc.)
✈It is recommended that friends with tight time fly directly to Yining, which saves a lot of car time than Urumqi. It only takes 2-3 hours to go anywhere from Yining, except for rushing to the plane at the beginning and end, five or six days of pure play is enough
🌿The several large grasslands in Yili have similarities, and you can choose two or three to go
✅Nalati: High-altitude grassland, popular place with large crowds, self-driving 300/person, good road conditions and complete supporting facilities, suitable for parent-child/family/self-driving tours
✅Karakojun: Human-shaped grassland, large scenic area, can't drive by yourself, can only take the shuttle bus, charge by section. More suitable for hiking enthusiasts to cross
✅Junggar Plateau: There are mountain roads inside, easy to get carsick and traffic jam. You can only ride a horse to the back mountain, but the scenery along the way is stunningly beautiful and shocking! There are many homestays but expensive, if conditions permit, you can stay for one night, or you can return to Tekes on the same day
✅Chaxi: High cost performance, 30/person can drive Chata loop line, can go to Chaxi Park and Tarim two places. But the loop line is a non-paved road surface, the road conditions are poor, it tests the vehicle and technology, it is recommended to use off-road vehicles
✅Shata: Ticket 80+shuttle bus 30/person. It is a must-go place for hiking enthusiasts, and it is the only scenic spot that can get close to the snow mountain! But the experience is good or bad related to the weather and the flow of people
📌There are also niche points such as Aktas/Kurdining/Tangbula Grassland, etc.
⚠️Sayram Lake/Junggar Back Mountain/Shata and other places are prone to change, the temperature difference is large, it is recommended to carry a thick coat
👗Wear white/red/light-colored slim and elegant dresses by the lake, floral/blue and white/bright/pastoral or mountain style in the forest and grassland, the principle is to wear high saturation colors, avoid black or green (black should wear suspenders to show more skin, green is easy to blend in)
🧳Must bring: U-shaped neck pillow/disposable slippers/face mask/moisturizing spray/body lotion/sunscreen/umbrella/sunglasses/power bank/motion sickness medicine/dental floss (eating meat every day is easy to get stuck in the teeth😂)
🤩Beautiful Xinjiang, it's worth us to go a long way!

An underrated gem in Xinjiang has become stunningly beautiful
Xinjiang has always been the apple of my eye, and since my first visit to Altay in 2016, I have been to Xinjiang four times! With the popularity of 'My Altay', Xinjiang tourism is bound to surge, and the Duku Highway has opened earlier than ever before. Many previously less-known spots like Kanas, Qiongkushitai, and Xiat are now hot destinations, and the experience is not as good as before.
-
👸🏻Today, I recommend a hidden gem that is still rarely visited by tourists~
-
✅Lujiaowan Scenic Area
📍Address: Boertonggu Pasture, Shawan City, Tacheng Region, Xinjiang (near S101 provincial road)
Lujiaowan is one of the best grasslands at the foot of the northern Tianshan Mountains, once a breeding ground for Tianshan red deer🦌. After the breeding season each year, the male deer shed their antlers by the mountain streams, giving this place its lovely name.
-
To the south of Lujiaowan lies the Habiga Mountain, over 4000 meters above sea level, with perennial snow on its peak🏔️ and spruce trees like tents. The unique geographical conditions provide abundant rainfall and glacial nourishment to the valley, making the grass much greener than in Ili during the same season❗
-
The scenic area is only accessible by self-driving, as there are no shuttle buses❌, so large tour groups do not choose this place. It is currently a private land enjoyed almost exclusively by locals in Xinjiang❤️. Last summer, with high temperatures and strong sunlight, I saw the snow line on the Tianshan Mountains melting away along the Duku Highway, and the grass turned yellow. However, Lujiaowan still had fantastic snow-capped peaks and grasslands, similar to a mini Xiat, and most importantly, there were very few people❗
-
For self-driving or chartered car, it is recommended to take the S101 from Urumqi (this national defense highway is also incredibly beautiful), pass through Lujiaowan, and then you can also visit the Anjihai Grand Canyon on the way to Kuitun, connecting to Sayram Lake and Ili. Or continue on the Duku Highway to Dushanzi, which is very convenient
【In-depth Yili】8 days and 7 nights Yili Grand Loop + Niche In-depth Tour, Xiata Ancient Road + Qiongkushitai + Kalajun + Bayin, S101 + Yizhao Highway + Duku, the most recommended trip to Xinjiang in summer

【Encountering North and South Xinjiang】10 days and 9 nights crossing the entire Duku Highway, traversing North and South Xinjiang

Complete Travel Guide to Ili
Ili, known as the most humid city in Xinjiang, is also called the 'Apple City'. Here is a nine-day travel guide for Ili:
• Day 1: After arriving in Yining, stay in Yining. You can stroll around Kazanqi or Liuxing Street, and don't miss the Yining handmade ice cream that rivals Häagen-Dazs. In the evening, head to the Ili River to watch the sunset, and at night, go to Hanren Street to taste roasted lamb skewers and drink kvass.
• Day 2: Rent a car in the early morning to head to Tangbula, passing through the Hundred Mile Gallery on the way. Arrange accommodation in the felt tent area closest to Fairy Lake, drop off your luggage, and then ride a horse to Fairy Lake. The round-trip cost is about 200 yuan per person, and it takes about 2 - 3 hours. Enjoy lamb or big plate chicken for dinner at your accommodation.
• Day 3: In the morning, depart from Tangbula to Nalati. It is recommended to buy a self-driving ticket to enter. The aerial grassland is stunningly beautiful, and many online videos and photos are taken here. If time is limited, you can skip Xuelian Valley (as it's not accessible by self-driving). Stay overnight in Nalati town.
• Day 4: If you're up for it in the morning, continue to walk on the Panlong Ancient Trail in Nalati (the ticket is valid for two days), then head from Nalati to Qiaxi. Reach the top of the mountain at the deepest part of the scenic area to admire the beauty of the snow-capped mountains and grasslands. If you prefer leisure, find a hilltop to sit quietly and daydream, or take a walk in the forest. If there's still time, continue to Kuerdening or Tarim. Stay overnight in Qiaxi.
• Day 5: Depart from Qiaxi in the morning to Kalajun. Arrive at the Human Body Grassland before sunset, when the light is best. Stay overnight in Tekes, where there are several famous places for roasted lamb skewers and lamb rib noodles. It's worth trying.
• Day 6: Depart from Tekes in the morning to Qiongkushitai. The scenery along the way is picturesque, and you can stop to take photos. It is recommended to stay in a guesthouse on the mountain behind the village, where the scenery is the best and more peaceful. The cost for a felt tent is about 100 yuan per person, and a better-conditioned standard room starts at 300 yuan. The sunset on the mountain is breathtaking, and at night, you can watch the dazzling starry sky.
• Day 7: If you have enough time, you can ride a horse or hike from Qiongkushitai along the Wusun Ancient Trail to Kalajun. If time is limited, continue to Shata. Stay in the scenic area, where there are felt tent areas and wooden house areas (Note: You cannot self-drive into the scenic area, so arrange accommodation in advance to have them transport your luggage. After buying tickets, tourists take a sightseeing bus to enter). In the afternoon, you can first stroll on the plank road, with beautiful snow mountains and flower seas.
• Day 8: Take the shuttle bus directly to the end point in the morning, and then start hiking. Along the way, you will pass rivers, forests, flower seas, grasslands, and snow-capped mountains, with stunning scenery and close encounters with snow-capped mountains (you must hike in Shata, as the essence is in this hiking section). Stay overnight in Zhaosu County.
• Day 9: Return to Yining from Zhaosu, ending the pleasant journey. If you have one or two more days, you can continue to Sailimu Lake. Drive along the lake, with blue skies, white clouds, flower seas, snow-capped mountains, and lakes, which are refreshing. You can return to Yining for accommodation at night, or stay at Sailimu Lake.
Please note that there is a large temperature difference between day and night in Ili. The nights in May can be a bit cold, so remember to bring a windbreaker or a medium-thick coat.

Differences between Southern and Northern Xinjiang:
① Climate difference
Northern Xinjiang, north of the Tianshan Mountains, has a relatively humid climate due to the influence of the warm and moist air currents from Siberia, with slightly more rainfall;
Southern Xinjiang, south of the Tianshan Mountains, has a drier climate because the lofty Tianshan Mountains block the warm and moist air currents from crossing into Southern Xinjiang, resulting in scarce rainfall.
② Difference in landscape features
Northern Xinjiang: The humid climate has fostered a large number of natural landscapes such as forests, grasslands, and lakes, with the most famous being the Kanas Lake Tourist Area and the Ili Grassland Tourist Area;
Southern Xinjiang: The dry climate means that natural landscapes are mostly deserts, plateaus, and poplar trees. Religious sites and ancient cities left over from the Silk Road more than a thousand years ago have also been preserved due to the dry climate, becoming an important part of the cultural landscape of Southern Xinjiang.
Precautions
1. Dressing: There is a large temperature difference between day and night, so no matter when you come, you should prepare a set of warm clothes and sunscreen.
2. Respect the customs of ethnic minorities and avoid using the word 'pig'.
3. To go to Taxkorgan, you need to apply for a border pass, which is now very convenient. It can also be done in Kashgar upon arrival, but please note that Taxkorgan is a high-altitude area.
4. Craft knives from Xinjiang are prohibited from being checked in.
5. When shopping, be aware that prices are often by the kilogram.

Ili in June and July is known as the dazzling jewel of Xinjiang's summer
😜Summer is coming, who can say no to the charm of Ili in Xinjiang?
🌄Looking for a boundless vacation destination? Ili is definitely the perfect choice!
👉Generally speaking, by the end of May, Ili is already a vision of lush greenery, but at this time the Duku Highway is not yet open, and the travel routes are relatively long. If you have plenty of time, it is highly recommended to head to Ili after mid-June. Although there will be slightly more tourists at that time, we can lead you to explore those little-known and rarely visited places, to experience the unique scenery of Ili. Once August arrives, the beauty of the grasslands will gradually fade. Therefore, there is no doubt that June and July are the golden months to travel in Ili!
🚗Ili Grand Loop Route Reference (after the opening of Duku Highway)

Day 8: Bayanbulak—Duku Highway—Qi'ermo—Urumqi (disband, tonight without accommodation) 🤗
❤Tips:
In July, the Chaxi Grasslands begin to wither, so it might be a good idea to change to the Kalajun Grasslands, where the wildflowers are in full bloom 💐, and the scenery is intoxicating. If the itinerary allows, you can split the first day's travel into two days, arriving in Kuitun on the first day to rest, and then heading to Sayram Lake for fun on the second day, staying overnight in Ili. This will make the trip more relaxed and comfortable, which is how we arranged it.
🎊We believe that during these two months of travel in Ili, you will definitely encounter the most enchanting Ili scenery!

The severely underestimated Kalajun Prairie
No one should be able to resist the summer in Xinjiang, right? Snow-capped mountains, seas of flowers, grasslands, forests, streams~
I can imagine all the beautiful scenes
You can find them all in Xinjiang
And the legendary summer of Xinjiang must be in Yili
Among the eight great prairies of Yili
If I were to recommend just one prairie
It would definitely be Kalajun!
The Kalajun scenic area is vast
Mainly divided into the prairie (East Kalajun) and the canyon (West Kalajun)
Starting from mid-May each year
The hills here are covered with wildflowers
Here you can not only drive by yourself but also hike
Compared to the internet-famous Nalati and Kuerdening
The view here is more open, the grassland more three-dimensional
And the experience is richer
I've put together this Kalajun travel guide for you
Highly recommend adding it to your Xinjiang travel list!
About tickets (including shuttle service)
East Kalajun: 140 RMB per person
West Kalajun: 155 RMB per person
East and West full domain (valid for 2 days): 275 RMB per person
Self-driving tour: 100 RMB per person
Eastern route: Military Horse Farm - Ushun Summer Capital - Flower Terrace - Falcon Terrace
Western route: Kushitai Dock - Kalajun Lake - Kuer Tai - Kuokesu Canyon - Nine Turns Eighteen Bends - Kuerdai River
If you have enough time, you can finish both areas in two days
Stay overnight in the scenic area
If you only have 1 day
I suggest leaving it for the eastern prairie~ It's really beautiful!
You can also finish parts of both areas in 1 day as a special forces soldier
Apart from regular sightseeing, I actually recommend taking a hike
The grand and undulating terrain of the Kalajun prairie
The rich natural elements along the way
It's really like walking into a painting
Here you have the option of short hikes, small loops, and large loops
Because it's close to Qiongkushitai
So you can choose to hike from Qiongkushitai to Kalajun
Or from Kalajun to Qiongkushitai
One way is about 6-7 hours, the whole journey is about 15km
1. Small loop hike (about 50km in total)
D1: Yining - Tekes - Flower Terrace - West Kalajun
D2: West Kalajun - East Kalajun
D3: East Kalajun - Tarim Prairie - Yining
1. Large loop hike (about 100km in total)
D1: Yining City - Tekes - West Kalajun
D2: West Kalajun Prairie - Flower Terrace - East Kalajun Prairie
D3: East Kalajun Prairie - Tarim Prairie
D4: Tarim Prairie - Qiaxi Prairie
D5: Qiaxi Prairie - Mohur
D6: Moping'er - Kuerdening - Yining
Tips:
Some areas have no signal, be sure to travel with others and download the route
The altitude of Kalajun is about 2500 meters, and the weather is very dry, pay attention to sun protection and moisturizing
The weather is changeable and the temperature difference is large, bring good rain and cold protection equipment
There are supply points along the way, bring more water~

The beauty of nature
Summer in Xinjiang Yili 8-10 Day Travel Guide:
- Route: Yining-Tangbula-Narat-Qiawuqi-Kalajun-Tekes-Qiongkushitai-Xiata-Yining
- Transportation: It is recommended to rent a car for self-driving, or to charter a car or carpool. Many hostels and youth hostels in Yining offer carpooling services, so feel free to ask at the front desk. Car rental prices are usually more affordable in May.
- Detailed Itinerary:
- Day 1: Arrange accommodation after arriving in Yining. You can visit Kazanqi or Liuxing Street, be sure to taste the Yining handmade ice cream that rivals Haagen-Dazs, enjoy the sunset by the Ili River in the evening, and at night go to Hanren Street to enjoy grilled lamb skewers and taste kvass.
- Day 2: Rent a car in the morning and head to Tangbula. You will pass through the Hundred Mile Gallery, find good accommodation near the Fairy Lake in the felt tent area, leave your luggage and then ride a horse to Fairy Lake. The round trip costs about 200 yuan and takes about 2-3 hours. In the evening, taste lamb or big plate chicken at the accommodation.
- Day 3: Depart from Tangbula to Narat in the morning. It is recommended to buy a self-driving ticket to enter. The beauty of the grassland in the sky is incomparable, and many online videos and photos are taken here. If you are short on time, you can skip Snow Lotus Valley (as it is not accessible by self-driving). Stay overnight in Narat town.
- Day 4: If interested, you can continue to play on the Panlong Ancient Trail in Narat in the morning (the ticket is valid for two days), then head to Qiawuqi from Narat. Reach the top of the mountain inside the scenic area to view the snow-capped mountains and grasslands. If you like leisure, you can sit quietly on a hilltop or walk in the forest. If there is still time, you can continue to Kuerdening or Tarim. Stay overnight in Qiawuqi.
- Day 5: Depart from Qiawuqi in the morning and drive to Kalajun. Arrive at the Human Body Grassland before sunset in the evening, when the light is best. Stay overnight in Tekes, where there are several famous grilled lamb skewers and lamb chop hand-pulled noodles worth trying.
- Day 6: Depart from Tekes to Qiongkushitai in the morning. The scenery along the way is excellent, and you can take photos as you go. It is recommended to stay in a guesthouse on the mountain behind the village in the evening, where the scenery is the most beautiful and it is quieter. The cost of a felt tent is about 100 yuan per person, and the price of a better-conditioned standard room starts at 300 yuan. Enjoy the beautiful sunset on the mountain, and at night you can watch the starry sky.
- Day 7: If you have enough time, you can ride a horse or hike from Qiongkushitai to Kalajun via the Wusun Ancient Trail. If time is limited, continue to Xiata and stay in the scenic area, where there are felt tent areas and log cabin areas (note: the scenic area is not accessible by self-driving, you need to contact the accommodation in advance to help transport luggage, and tourists can enter by taking a sightseeing bus after purchasing a ticket). In the afternoon, you can first stroll on the plank road, where the snow-capped mountains and flower sea are extremely beautiful.
- Day 8: Take the shuttle bus directly to the end point in the morning, and then start hiking. Along the way, you will pass through rivers, forests, flower seas, grasslands, and snow-capped mountains, with stunning scenery and close contact with the snow-capped mountains (you must hike in Xiata, the essence is in this hiking process). Stay overnight in Zhaosu county town.
- Day 9: Return to Yining from Zhaosu, ending the trip. If you have one or two more days, you can continue to Sailimu Lake, drive along the lake, with blue sky, white clouds, flower sea, snow-capped mountains, and lakes, which are refreshing. In the evening, you can return to Yining for accommodation or stay at Sailimu Lake (you can visit Guozigou Bridge on the way back).
- Other: The nights in Yili in June can be a bit cold, remember to bring a windbreaker or a medium-thick coat.

Xinjiang Yili's seven-day and six-night free trip | The thing I regret the most
I didn't rent a DSLR to take with me The phone can't capture such a vast grassland and snow-capped mountains, the scenery is really too stunning!
📍Attached is our travel strategy:
There were four of us in a chartered car, from 6.3 to 6.10
D1: Departure-Urumqi-Changji
D2: Sayram Lake-Guozigou Bridge
D3: Huocheng Qingshui River Lavender-Kalajun
D4: Horse riding in Kalajun-Tekes Bagua City
D5: Kuerdening-Narat
D6: Tangbula Hundred Mile Gallery-Bulong Hot Spring
D7: Dushanzi Grand Canyon-Return trip
The Duku Highway took the northern section, Bayinbuluke was not open yet, please remember to take turns sitting in the co-pilot seat to enjoy the scenery~
⚠️Xinjiang is too big, and each scenic spot is very scattered, be careful not to schedule too many trips~ It is recommended to arrange the most stunning scenic spots in the first two days, because you will gradually become aesthetically tired later on😂
❤️My three favorite places
1️⃣ Sayram Lake: The clouds roll and the sea and sky are one color, be sure to pick a sunny day to go!
2️⃣ Kalajun Scenic Area: The Falcon Terrace is really shocking, we rode horses for eight hours, marveling at the beautiful scenery all the way, and on a clear night, you can see the starry sky and the Big Dipper for the first time~ So you must stay in the grassland!
3️⃣ Tangbula Grassland Hundred Mile Gallery: Although I was a bit tired of the grassland in the last two days, Tangbula is really beautiful, and the scenery along the way is the best!
⚡️Personal lightning protection
Dushanzi Grand Canyon is a bit like a canyon version of Happy Valley, with mostly entertainment projects inside, which are quite average, but the main thing is that it's too sunny
👗Dressing and skincare advice🧴
1️⃣No need to say more about the white dress, it fits well in any environment, the yellow dress will attract a lot of insects, please be cautious😐Red clothes are quite stunning, even saw several red aunt travel groups
2️⃣Three-in-one is the most worn clothing in Xinjiang, because you can experience four seasons in one day, every day is a layering method, when the sun is strong, it is very hot, especially after seven or eight o'clock in the evening, especially on the grassland by the lake, the temperature will drop sharply and it is very cold, and the wind is also very strong, it is also good to bring a thin down jacket👍
3️⃣Rain boots saved my life! Because there is really a lot of horse manure on the grassland, wearing boots will be very convenient👢
4️⃣No need to wear makeup but must wear sunscreen, and need to reapply often, and moisturizing is very important, mixed dry skin went to Xinjiang and directly became a Loulan mummy...
💰Total cost
Didn't calculate in detail, it should be around 8k
The whole journey into the scenic area was self-driving so it was very comfortable! The hotel averages about one to two hundred per person per night~
🥳Final feelings
The clouds on the lake that seem to be within reach, the stars on the grassland, the Kazakh songs on horseback, singing loudly on the Duku Highway, these memories will become the fuel fragments for continuing to work hard in life, will definitely come back in the future🤣First earn enough money and then talk...
Next time I want to check in the autumn scenery of Kanas in North Xinjiang🍂
ExcursionAddict
The best way to enjoy the Kalajun grasslands is to hike from the Flower Terrace to the Falcon Terrace
Many visitors to the Kalajun scenic area follow the shuttle bus from stop to stop to check in. The best way to truly experience it is to take the shuttle bus directly to the Flower Terrace from the entrance, then walk along the plank road for about 2 hours to the Falcon Terrace. Along the way, flowers are everywhere, the scenery is charming, and the difficulty is not great. If it's too hard, you can also ride a horse. After reaching the Falcon Terrace, you can also hike further up. From here, take the bus directly back to the entrance of the scenic area. Note that the return vehicles do not stop along the way!

I lay on the grassland all day | Today I lay on the vast Kala Jun grassland
Today continues the journey in Xinjiang.
No one can refuse the summer in Xinjiang, with snow-capped mountains, forests, seas of flowers, grasslands, and streams, everything looks like a scene from a fairy tale world, far away from our daily life, filling the mind and body with joy.
Many people compare Kala Jun with Narati, making it an either-or choice, but why can't adults have both?
Some suggestions:
1️⃣ If you, like us, choose to go on a self-driving tour, never let a novice driver drive at high speed, because there are many bends and steep slopes on the road to Kala Jun, pay attention to safety~
2️⃣ Still, a bit of hiking is needed to appreciate the beauty of the grassland. You can go from the Flower Terrace to the Falcon Terrace, be prepared with sunscreen and snacks, although it takes two to three hours, the beauty is overwhelming.
3️⃣ Bring a raincoat. Nature is unpredictable.

Xinjiang's Kalajun: The Ultimate Guide to Conquering the King of the Grasslands
🏞️ Looking for a slice of pristine tranquility and magnificence in the vastness of nature? This is an underrated sanctuary—Kalajun, a place whose very name is shrouded in mystery.
👑 Kalajun may not be as well-known as Qiaxi or Xiatana, but it quietly boasts the reputation of the 'King of the Grasslands.' Here, the grassland is not just a green carpet, but an ecological tapestry that dances with snow-capped mountains and clouds.
🛤️🛣️ Itinerary Overview
📍 Destination: Kalajun Prairie & Kekesu Grand Canyon
🌟 Highlights: Pristine grasslands, snow mountain views, Flower Terrace, Falcon Terrace hiking, canyon exploration
📅 Best Season: Summer, from June to August

🛤️ Tour Route
🚍 First, depart from the Kalajun Visitor Center, take the shuttle bus, and embark on a panoramic journey from Shiquan Station to Kushitai Pier. Along the way, each stop hides unknown surprises:
1⃣️🌿 Shiquan Station
🏃♀️ Although the first impression is already stunning, remember that better views lie ahead, so don't linger too long.
2⃣️💐 Flower Terrace
🐑 Holding a soft little lamb, feeling the warmth of nature, this is happiness you can buy for just 10 yuan! A heartwarming experience of the pastoral industry, limited to ten minutes, worth it!
📸 Walking in the clouds is not a dream, the comic-style background here makes you instantly the brightest star in your social circle.
🌸 Take the road less traveled, delve into the wildflowers, and you will find a real treasure spot, with fewer people and more beautiful scenery!

🏞️ Hiking through, making every step part of a scenic blockbuster. The views along the way are even more captivating than from the viewing platform.
4⃣️🏞️ Kekesu Grand Canyon
🚁 The spectacle of Crocodile Bay may seem mundane from the ground, but the addition of a drone will bring out its unique charm.
🌅 The regrets and expectations of the Human Body Grassland, it may not be lush in mid-June, but the silhouettes under the sunset are a golden moment for photography enthusiasts.
🚫 Important Notes
📞 Drone flights must be reported in advance.
🌳 Pay attention to environmental protection, avoid stepping on animal droppings.
⏰ Plan sightseeing time with the last bus schedule in mind to avoid missing it.

12-Day Essence Tour of Northern Xinjiang
Some say that when it comes to traveling in Xinjiang: you go to Northern Xinjiang for the scenery and Southern Xinjiang for the culture. This saying summarizes it well, but it's not accurate.
Northern Xinjiang boasts incredibly beautiful natural landscapes, with grasslands, forests, canyons, deserts, Gobi, Yardang landforms, and hills, definitely the ceiling of natural scenery in China.
Southern Xinjiang is home to a large number of ethnic minorities, with many ancient buildings and historical sites well-preserved, making it a great place to appreciate cultural heritage and understand the history of the Western Regions.
However, Northern Xinjiang also has a rich cultural landscape, such as the International Grand Bazaar, the ancient city of Gaochang, Tuyugou, and more.
Southern Xinjiang also has stunning natural scenery, such as the Taklamakan Desert, Tarim Poplar Forest, White Sand Lake, and Mustagh Ata, etc.

Traveling in Xinjiang, you can't miss any of the Xinjiang delicacies!
Strolling through Yili, I took my friends to a scenic restaurant deep in the Kala Jun grasslands facing the snow-capped mountains, where we enjoyed beef hotpot and braised lamb ribs. Having such a warm hotpot on the grassland feels amazing.
After returning from the Kala Jun grasslands to the Teks Hexagram City, we had lamb ribs with pulled noodles and 'jiu wan san hang zi'. Two cars with ten people couldn't finish the lamb ribs with pulled noodles; the portions were too large!
On this trip, we basically introduced everyone to Xinjiang cuisine, and all my friends said it was delicious.
In fact, dining in Xinjiang with a group and splitting the bill, it's not expensive at all. About 100 yuan per day is enough, and that's already for eating very well.

My eleventh trip to Xinjiang, trekking in Kanas
My eleventh trip to Xinjiang
I flew from Guangzhou to Urumqi on the 27th in the morning, a journey of 5 hours. Then I took the airport express from Urumqi Airport to Urumqi Station, followed by a high-speed train to Yining, and finally a taxi to my accommodation, arriving after 10 p.m.
The next morning, I shared a ride with some friends from the youth hostel to Tekes. After dropping off my luggage at the accommodation, I took a taxi to Kanas, rode the shuttle bus straight to the Flower Terrace, and trekked five kilometers to the Falcon Terrace. It took me over five hours to walk and take photos, a bit tiring but okay.
The scenery was beautiful, with vast grasslands and a little snow left on the mountain tops. The weather was also nice, but unfortunately, I didn't see the large patches of purple flowers. I caught almost the last shuttle bus (20:00) down the mountain from the Falcon Terrace.
Because I didn't see the purple flowers, I felt a bit regretful, so I bought another ticket the next day and headed straight for the Flower Terrace to start trekking again. However, the weather turned bad, it was overcast and very windy, and I was almost frozen to death. My nose wouldn't stop running, and I had a headache and earache, so I had to turn back in the end.
So I still didn't see the purple flowers, and later I found out that there were no large patches of purple flowers at all now, because they had been frozen by the rain a few days ago.
I have seen six or seven grasslands in Yili, and Kanas was not as stunning as I imagined (I pictured a meadow with multicolored flowers, but now there are only yellow flowers), but it was still beautiful.
PS: This year, there is more rainfall in Yili, and the grasslands are greener earlier than in previous years. Now is the best time to see the grasslands, avoiding the peak summer holiday season. Once the summer vacation starts, accommodation prices will double.
Also, it's best to rent a car or charter one, as the distances between scenic spots are too great, and public transportation is inconvenient. Renting a car in Yining for a self-drive is the most convenient and cheapest way to travel.
If you are traveling alone and want to find people to share a ride with, you can stay in a youth hostel. They have dormitories and private rooms, and it's easy to find people to share a ride with. The photo is from the private room I stayed in at the Tekes youth hostel.

Xinjiang Ili River Valley Panoramic 7-Day Tour
Go to Xinjiang once! It is a place favored by the heavens. In Xinjiang, you can see vast grasslands, like a green ocean, with galloping horses and flocks of sheep dotting it like clouds.
The Tianshan Mountains are majestic and spectacular, with snow-capped peaks shining with a mysterious light under the sun.
The lakes are embedded in the earth like sapphires, with the clear waters reflecting the blue sky and white clouds, a sight too beautiful to describe.

Xinjiang Ili Grassland Travel Guide.
How to Choose the Right Season and Time, Avoiding 90% of Tourist Mistakes❗
The Ili grassland seems like a masterpiece of nature. Each season has its unique beauty, but the key is not in the routes and tickets, but in how to grasp the best season and time.
🌸Season Selection
The most beautiful moment of the Ili grassland is from mid-May to mid-June. At this time, the grass is lush, wildflowers are in full bloom, snow-capped mountains stand tall, and the scenery is picturesque. Moreover, there are relatively fewer tourists, and accommodation prices are quite friendly, with daily rates around 100 yuan easily found.
However, as time enters mid-June to July and August, the snow line on the snow-capped mountains rises, and the number of tourists increases significantly, causing prices to rise accordingly. Especially during the summer vacation, many people choose to travel at this time, but the scenery is not as stunning as before.
Late May to early June: At this time, the Duku and Yizhao roads are not yet open, and some grasslands are not fully open either. It is recommended to visit Chaxi, Kurdening, Nalati, and other grasslands.
Mid-June to early July: You can choose from eight major grasslands, including Chaxi, Kurdening, Nalati, Kalajun, Qiongkushitai, Aktaas, Xiata, and Tangbula.
Mid-July to mid-August: Although most of the snow-capped mountains in Ili's grasslands have disappeared and the grass is gradually turning yellow, the Duku and Yizhao roads are still passable. It is recommended to visit Xiata, Kalajun, Tangbula, and Nalati grasslands.
⏰Time Points
For friends visiting in July, do not have too high expectations for the beautiful photos and videos online. But how can you enjoy the scenery as much as possible in the non-best season? The answer is to choose the right time!
Excluding the impact of weather factors, the best times to enter the grassland are from 7 to 10 in the morning and from 7 to 10 in the evening. During these two periods, the angle of the sunlight is suitable, and the light is soft, which can outline the three-dimensional and layered sense of the grassland, presenting the most beautiful scenery. Be sure to avoid the noon period, as direct sunlight will cause the scenery to lose its light and shadow undulations and layering.
Each piece of Ili's grassland has its unique charm. But if you can enter the grassland at the right time, even an 80-point grassland will be more charming than a 90 or even 100-point grassland under direct sunlight. So, friends planning to travel to Xinjiang Ili, please remember: the choice of time is more important than the choice of attractions!

Outfit Suggestions:
In mid-June, when there is sun, you can wear little dresses and tank tops, but the temperature difference between day and night is significant, so you need a three-in-one storm coat. For example, in Xiaota, it's hot at 9 am at the service area, but by 11 am at General's Bridge, the wind is strong and you need to change into a thick coat. After climbing for a while, you switch to a thin coat, but at the mountain top, you need the three-in-one again because the wind is so strong. Going down, it gets hot again, and it starts raining at 3:30 pm, getting heavier and heavier, making the road very muddy. Mud covers the shoes, and at General's Bridge, you wait for the electric car for 3 hours under an umbrella, but the wind is too strong for the umbrella to be effective, and you end up freezing numb.

The legendary Bagua City is actually the Tekes County town, here's a guide
Visit Yili before the peak season in June in Xinjiang, because I'm going to Kanas/Kuokesu/Kurding, so I stayed in Tekes, the closest county town to Kanas, for two nights (it's better to stay in the county town before the peak season, it seems that the camping site in Kanas is not open yet, and the campsite in Kurding I visited today is very impressive and I will write about it later). I only realized that Tekes is the legendary Bagua City when I booked the hotel.
🌟 Flying drones: First of all, you can fly drones in Bagua City, but you need to register at the police station at the central point of Bagua City first, and they gave me permission to fly at an altitude of 500 meters for two days. The whole process only takes 2 minutes, very efficient. Many people are aerial filming Bagua City here.
🌟 Bagua City attractions: In addition to the divination platform in the city center and various Xinjiang restaurants, there are actually two streets worth strolling.
1️⃣ Bagua City Night (recommended to go after 10 pm, it gets dark at 10 pm in Xinjiang now), located between Kan Street and Qian Street on the third ring road (p4-p12), it's very beautiful after the lights are on, and after 10:10 pm there are various performances, dancing, magic, stunts, etc., very interesting, and then there are various snacks and amusement projects. See pictures 4-12.
2️⃣ Li Street pedestrian street, you can go for a walk when you have nothing to do, there are post offices, souvenir shops, coffee shops, ice cream shops, restaurants, and guesthouses (p13-p18). The ice cream there is quite good.
Tekes (Bagua City) is less than a 2-hour drive from Yining, a half-hour drive from Kanas, and just over an hour and a half drive from Kurding. Kanas, Kuokesu, and Kurding are all too beautiful, the natural scenery is as good as Switzerland, and it's definitely worth visiting. As Xinjiang tourism is increasingly discovered by everyone, it will surely become more and more popular.

I was already captivated by the beauty of Yili before even visiting Altay!
I was already captivated by the beauty of Yili before even visiting Altay!
The recent TV series 'My Altay' has become a hit,
sparking my deep love for Xinjiang.
It's a pity that I haven't been to the Altay region yet,
but I have already experienced the enchanting scenery of Yili.
The Tianshan Mountains, grasslands, and lakes are simply breathtaking!
Xinjiang in summer is romantic and healing, truly irresistible.
Frolicking on the endless grasslands,
listening to the sound of ice and snow melting at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains,
and gazing at the blooming flowers and the azure lakes,
every place, every scene, is filled with freedom and romance.
Here are 5 great places to visit in Xinjiang during the summer:
1️⃣ Sayram Lake
'There's a blue called Sayram Lake blue,' on a sunny day, Sayram Lake is crystal clear and blue, with green grass and colorful flowers on the shore, and clouds like cotton candy in the sky, as if you are in an animated scene.
Travel tips: Enter from the east gate and exit from the south gate. The section from West Sea Grassland to the south gate is the essence, with beautiful scenery and swans, making it excellent for photography!
2️⃣ Yili Guozigou
Exiting from the south gate of Sayram Lake and driving two or three kilometers along National Highway 312, you will reach Guozigou Scenic Area, with many viewing platforms along the way, all suitable for taking photos.
Travel tips: In addition to visiting the first, second, and third viewing platforms in turn, you can also stroll down the mountain along the walking trail.
3️⃣ Shat Ancient Trail
A beautiful natural canyon at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains, a paradise for hiking enthusiasts! Mountains, rapids, glaciers, all in one view.
Travel tips: Hike or ride a horse deep into Shat to feel the sanctity and generosity of the Tianshan Mountains.
4️⃣ Qiaxi Forest Park
Spruce trees cover the slopes, perfectly blending forest and grassland. Drive along the mountain road and wait for a romantic sunset and starry sky.
5️⃣ Kalajun Grassland
The vast grassland spreads out at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains. Here, running, strolling, or lying flat all have their unique charm, no wonder the cattle and horses love to stay here.
Self-driving route: Sayram Lake ➡️ Guozigou ➡️ Qiaxi ➡️ Kalajun ➡️ Shat.

BRIELLE WILLIAMS
Once again, Xinjiang
Ili is a gathering place for the Kazakh ethnic group, so on the first day, we followed the local customs. In Tangbula, we joined this nation of horseback riders to taste milk tea, roast lamb skewers, drink mutton soup, and sleep in a Mongolian yurt. Early in the morning, as the first rays of sunlight touched the grassland, the brave among us wrapped up in our thickest clothes to chase the light; the hosts of the grassland began to milk the sheep. The master said there was also horse milk, which I had never seen and certainly would not be accustomed to its taste, but the mere mention of horse milk filled me with a sense of boldness and a fully charged atmosphere.
We drove towards Fairy Lake, but having taken the wrong road, we had to return the way we came and chose to ride horses instead. We brought thick shawls especially for the trip because, for us, riding horses really required a 'steel butt' that we didn't have! However, when the unexpected happened, we had to bite the bullet and get on the horses. Along the way, I kept thinking, wouldn't a motorcycle be a better choice? After all, it's faster. Passing hikers, we joked interestingly: those who haven't gotten on wish to get on, and those who have regret it. Isn't that the truth? But we just wanted to see that touch of green with our own eyes! And the scenery and local customs along the way, otherwise how could I have seen that mother, who without makeup, seemed to me stunningly beautiful and unforgettable for several days? How could I have come to admire the confidence of the 'sunset red' aunties once again?
Reluctantly leaving Tangbula, the lavender fields of the Tianshan Flower Sea finally awaited us, the adorable ground cover making us jump for joy; in Kanas, cotton candy could be plucked right out of the air, and I brought Hayao Miyazaki's animations into my camera, staging a real-life version of The Wind Rises; in Qiongkushitai, with green grass and a sea of flowers, that's where Heidi and her grandfather lived! The little wooden houses on the grassland, the streams, forests, cattle, and sheep along the way, isn't that the Eastern Switzerland, captivating to the eye; hiking in Shatuo, looking up to see the snow-capped mountains right before our eyes, we kept looking, walking, and rushing towards this goal, never stopping. We also kept exclaiming: in the face of nature, humans are truly insignificant, so what do those human disputes, rights and wrongs, grudges and grievances amount to under such a landscape?
Life is vast, and our eyes should not only see love and being loved, nor should they only see the immediate struggles! When you are confused, go into nature to find the answers!

Ili is wonderful in summer, but you need to know how to enjoy it
Ili is the only region in China that combines a sense of oppression and relaxation perfectly.
But to truly enjoy it, you need some experience and 'principles':
1. Choose between Kuerdening Qiaxi and Shata. It is recommended to use early June as the dividing line, before which Kuerdening Qiaxi is preferable, and after which Shata is better.
2. The way to enjoy Ili is inherently outdoorsy. The difference in scenery between hiking trails and regular routes is huge, and incorporating some outdoor elements into your itinerary is a standard for a profound experience. Some parts can be accessed by off-road vehicles, some by horse, and many only on foot. Qiaxi Kuerdening can include the tail end of the Kalajun traverse, Kalajun can extend to Qiongkushitai or Gazagan Camp, Shata has the Shata Ancient Trail, and even the Yisai Shepherd Trail and Tuhulasi Grassland hiking routes. If you really have no outdoor experience, you could also ride a horse for the first ten kilometers in front of Wusun or behind Qiongkushitai to get a taste, which is much better than just visiting scenic spots every day.
3. The golden period for Ili is mid-May to late June. This is based on a comprehensive score of 'grass + forest + low snow line + temperature'. Too early, and there are fewer grassland options, such as Kalajun not being very green, and Shata having a high frequency of bad weather in the afternoon. Too late, and the weather becomes hot, the snow line disappears, and having only grasslands and forests loses the advantage of the snow-capped mountains.
4. 'There's no point in going to Qiongkushitai if you're not staying overnight' makes sense because Qiongku's absolute advantage lies in its scattered homestay cabins and a leisurely travel mindset, all predicated on 'staying at least one night'; otherwise, you won't be able to relax.
5. In summer, the priority for accommodations in Ili should be lonely homestays with good conditions near scenic spots, followed by homestays with average conditions but good scenery, then experienced camping, then county town hotels, and lastly, homestays with poor conditions and not much scenery. However, the latter is what most people will choose, because they want both... but that's difficult.
6. Ili during the May Day holiday is good, but there are a few things to note. First, try not to attempt pure wilderness camping, as the weather is extremely unstable during May Day, with heavy snowfall every year. Second, don't apply your aesthetic expectations to flowers and vast greenery; appreciating Ili's snow-capped mountains is important.
7. The summer sunsets in Ili are incredibly beautiful, and it's not dangerous to return to your accommodation later, but missing the pink hues in the mountains would be a great pity.
8. Don't think that regular scenic spots are too 'mainstream'. Every scenic spot was once niche and equal in the eyes of the beholder. By using scenic spots as a base for further exploration, rather than blindly heading straight for the mountains, you're more likely to find 'good stuff', just as it's easier to succeed with a franchise than starting an independent brand.

One-day tour to Kala Jun
Today, there aren't many tourists, and the self-driving tour ticket is considered off-season at 160 RMB per person
Address: Navigate to 'Kala Jun Self-driving Tour Entrance'
Before buying tickets, there is a tour guide lady who will explain the route details!! As shown in Example 5
Route: Self-driving Tour East Gate Service Center—Wanna Service Center—Badanmu Viewing Point—Shenmu Forest Viewing Point—Flower Sea Yao Pool (the flowers are not blooming yet)—Gazagan Town Viewing Point—(Shenying Tribe Viewing Point—Bata Prayer Platform) Wusun Xiadu Service Area—Shiquan Service Area—Kala Jun Cableway Station Service Area——Bulak Tourist Service Center
‼️There are two important places here, one is the Wanna Service Center, where you can transfer to a shuttle bus to go to the Fresh Flower Platform and Falcon Platform. At the Fresh Flower Platform, you can hold a lamb for a photo for 10 RMB, and the nearby food is quite cheap (our instant noodles were 6 RMB a bowl). The Falcon Platform is a place where you can take close-up photos of the snow-capped mountains.
Another is the Kala Jun Cableway Station, where you can transfer to the cable car to go to the Koksu Grand Canyon. The ticket for the Grand Canyon + cable car is 135 RMB per person (including the canyon ticket and round-trip cable car 🚡)
About the Grand Canyon📍 There are three scenic spots, as shown in Map 7🗺️, and there is a shuttle bus available (included in the ticket price)
1️⃣Crocodile Platform, the first stop. Walk down the plank road to reach the viewing platform, where you can see the torrent below shaped like a crocodile🐊
2️⃣Nine Turns and Eighteen Bends (Human Body Curve Aesthetics), walk along the plank road, there is also horse riding available (didn't ask the price), reach the viewing platform, and you can see the distant mountains undulating, their curves beautiful (Picture 9)
3️⃣Grand Canyon👌 After reaching the Grand Canyon, there are three activities: rafting, zip-lining, and flying fox, all of which are charged extra! There are bicycles for rent 🚲 at the Grand Canyon stop, and it takes about 20 minutes to walk from the stop to the zip-line and flying fox.
Now to the highlight of my trip! I came for the zip-line!! (price 80 RMB) There's also the flying fox, which seems to have a nice route (price 180 RMB), I don't remember clearly, the zip-line is really fun, you can buy tickets at the station, no need to buy at the Grand Canyon stop (check the live situation, see if you can accept it before buying tickets) as shown in Picture 10
