When you come to Fuzhou West Lake Park, you must first read this travel guide
Fuzhou West Lake Park Travel Guide: Park South Gate - Liudi Bridge - West Lake Beauty (Stone Tablet Scenic Introduction) - Poetic Charm Lingers - Gengyi Courtyard - Lake Mountain Scenic Spot - Huafang Wharf - Kaihua Temple.
As you enter from the South Gate, you will see the first beautiful scene of our West Lake, called 'Fairy Bridge Willow Green', where the willow trees are evergreen all year round.
Walking from Liudi, if we turn right, we will see a large stone carved with the words 'West Lake Beauty'.
Further ahead is the Wanzai Hall, whose name comes from a poem he wrote, 'Imitating the Construction of Wanzai Hall to Invite the Hermit of Shimen'. There is a line in the poem, 'Outside the city, the mist and light of West Lake, Lonely Mountain seems to be in the middle of the water', hence the name 'Wanzai Hall'.
Next to Gengyi Courtyard is a poetry gallery, which was built in 1985 during the renovation of West Lake. The gallery is winding, about 80 meters long, and is integrated with Gengyi Pavilion and Wanzai Hall. Inside the gallery, rockeries are stacked, and pines, bamboos, plums, and other shrubs are planted, creating an elegant and tranquil environment. Many famous people from past dynasties have written and recited poems about Fuzhou West Lake in different calligraphy styles (regular, cursive, seal, and clerical) for tourists to appreciate.
This area is considered the back mountain of Kaihua Temple, the scenic spot of Lake Mountain, with classical garden architecture.
Continuing forward, you will come to the newly popular West Lake leisure area, Huafang Wharf, which features some culturally arranged landscapes, flowing water murals, stone bamboo background walls, cherry blossom branches, and antique flower boats, with the two large Huafang boats being the most distinctive.
Our final stop is at the center of Kaihua Isle, which during the Ming dynasty was the private residence of a scholar named Xie Yanzhu. Kaihua Temple was just a small raft next to his residence, and it is considered the oldest building in West Lake Park.
The eight exquisite views of West Lake are known as the West Lake Eight Views, also referred to as the Old West Lake Eight Views. They are: Fairy Bridge Willow Green, Great Dream Pine Sound, Ancient Rampart Slanting Sun, Crystal Crescent Moon, Lotus Pavilion Evening Song, West Zen Morning Bell, Lake Heart Spring Rain, and Clear Ripple Dawn Oriole.
During the May Day period, boarding the large Huafang at Huafang Wharf, you can taste a serving of tuna fish balls. Bring your family to enjoy the natural scenery and cultural landscapes of West Lake Park!
