Covering an area of about 65km, these amazing volcanoes can be found during your trip to Inner Mongolia. Visiting the Wulanhada Geopark is completely free and you can choose to walk around the volcanoes or drive to several of them throughout the day (recommended). More than 30 volcanoes here are distributed like a string of beads on the grassland, and the flat terrain shows off the shape of the volcanoes perfectly. Because of its unique volcanic geology and landform, this unique "volcanic grassland", is known as the "natural volcano museum", and definitely worth a visit. But out of the 30, there are 8 main volcanoes to see and climb. are arranged from northeast to southwest respectively, with a total distance of about 10 kilometers. The big ones are Volcano No.3️⃣ to Volcano No.8️⃣. The No.3 Volcano is half mined, and the whole volcano shows a huge gap, with a plank road to the volcano top; The No.4 Volcano was thoroughly excavated and a volcano museum was built on the original site; The No.5 Volcano is the most complete one, with a perfectly preserved central eruption volcanic shape. OMG, who else gets this?! Heading west from Beijing, I arrived in Ulanqab, and Volcano No. 6 was seriously amazing! Today, I successfully hiked around Volcano No. 6, mission accomplished! The neighboring Volcano No. 5 bears a striking resemblance to Mount Fuji—absolutely stunning! Amidst the ice, snow, and howling wind, I not only embraced my loved ones but also encountered the unique romance of a winter volcano. Being able to check off this long-awaited destination with my beloved family and friends filled me with immense happiness and satisfaction! Here are some tips for you: If you're short on time and can only choose one spot, don't hesitate—head straight to Volcano No. 6. Upon arrival, turn left to reach the first photo spot in Picture 7, and then begin your journey around the mountain. Halfway through, you'll catch a glimpse of Volcano No. 5, which looks just like Mount Fuji (Picture 5). On your way back, you'll also encounter the super popular big heart photo spot (Picture 9). The scenic beauty along the way is a delightful surprise throughout the entire loop! We went from 1–3 pm, when the sun was out, making it relatively warmer and the lighting perfect for photos. If you're traveling alone, it's recommended to rent a car, as other transportation options are not very convenient. If you're driving, you need to go to the visitor center and fill in your license plate number to get a pass (there's no one checking on the road, so it's probably fine if you don't fill it in). About Saturday's event: There are events at Volcano No. 3, including performances, disco, and fireworks! But it's really cold at night. Many people stay in their cars to watch the fireworks, which is quite romantic. The event starts at around 4:30 pm, and the fireworks are set off at around 7:30 pm! It's recommended to go early to avoid traffic! But if you're just taking photos, you can skip the fireworks show, as it's cold 🥶 and the fireworks don't last long. Time 🕰️: We arrived at around 3 pm that day. There's still some distance to drive from the visitor center, and it was almost sunset by then. The journey was so beautiful! Maybe it was because of the sunny weather, or maybe it was because of the enthusiasm for traveling, but I didn’t feel very cold when I encountered sub-zero temperatures for the first time. It felt more like the early morning temperature of frost in the south. 2⃣ About clothing I have never been to the north, and I was afraid of freezing to death, so I bought a lot of warm equipment. But during the few days I spent in Hohhot, I basically wore a wool vest + thermal underwear + sweater + coat on the upper body, and tights + big cotton pants on the lower body. If I played in the snow, I would wear a scarf, earmuffs, hat and gloves. I kept my down jacket with me because I was afraid of being cold, thinking I would put it on after taking the photos, but I never had the chance to wear it. (I didn’t use the foot warmer I bought…) (I had so much fun playing in the snow that I even lay in a snowdrift wearing only a sweater) 3⃣About itinerary Day 1: Left the airport at around 8:00, had some ice-cooked lamb and went back to the hotel to rest Day 2: Train to Ulanqab. After exiting the station, we chartered a car to go to Laolihai (about an hour’s drive). Then we set out from Laolihai to Ulanhada Volcano (about two and a half hours’ drive). Finally, we went from the volcano to Ulanqab Station. We took the train back to downtown Hohhot. We had Sanjiangyuan grilled fish for dinner (delicious and loved it). Day 3: I slept until noon and had Su Yuan Spicy Hot Pot. We chartered a car to go to Hongshi Cliff at around 1 a.m., because the guide said that the beauty of Hongshi Cliff lies in the scenery along the way. We finally stopped at the sign of [Inner Mongolia’s own Altay] and did not go into the scenic area (I don’t know what the inside of the scenic area is like, but the scenery on the way is really beautiful! The snow is enough for southerners to play with) 4⃣About photography equipment I brought Fuji xt30, DJI, and Canon g11. In conclusion, DJI restored 90% of the scenery I saw! I think wearing red/yellow/blue/purple clothes for taking photos will look better (the richer the colors, the better. Plush earmuffs are a must! Very photogenic) If you don’t want to bring too many clothes, you can bring a few scarves and hats to have more looks🤔 5. About drugs I felt dizzy and nauseous after dinner, so I took Huoxiang Zhengqi Pills and Compound Aminoacetamine Tablets. I felt much better the next day (especially energetic when taking photos). I also had severe red bloodshot eyes from wearing cosmetic contact lenses for too long, so I took Bausch and Lomb's Nai (it has a grass radical, but my input method can't type it) and Minvi Eye Drops (a magical drug, my eyes became brighter after using them and they were no longer red!) ⚠If you feel unwell, you should still see a doctor.
