The emperor really did eat with a golden bowl!
The emperor really did eat with a golden bowl! Not only a golden bowl, but also golden chopsticks, a golden spoon, a golden cup, a golden plate, and even a golden pot for cooking medicine. I used to think that the emperor's golden bowl was just a myth, like the empress of the east palace making pancakes and the empress of the west palace rolling green onions. I was surprised to find that it was all real gold, but also comforted to find that it was all things I had seen before and could imagine.
Travelicious Tastes
No wonder these treasures are from the underground palace of Dingling Tomb.
Dingling Tomb is the mausoleum of the Ming Shenzong Emperor Zhu Yijun and his empress. It is the first and only Ming Dynasty imperial tomb to be excavated in China. A large number of exquisite cultural relics were unearthed, including the famous gold-threaded crown, black gauze crown, three-dragon two-phoenix crown, six-dragon three-phoenix crown, nine-dragon nine-phoenix crown, and more.
📷📷📷📷
But the treasures of Dingling Tomb are hard to see. It's hard to see them at the Ming Tombs 😂, and you basically have to follow the temporary exhibitions. The splendor of the Ming Dynasty is truly dazzling.

September · Wuhan Museum
In September, the river city of Wuhan seems like a lady dressed in the grand attire of late summer. Even though the season has quietly stepped into the threshold of autumn, she still lingers fondly on the warmth and bustle of summer. The sunlight, like golden brocade, generously spreads over every corner, dyeing every crevice of the city with a layer of warm orange-yellow. The air not only carries the unique humidity of late summer but also seems to hide a sense of nostalgia and longing for the past times.
At the heart of this city, the Wuhan Museum stands proudly like a dazzling pearl amidst the lingering summer heat, becoming an oasis of culture that provides a spiritual retreat for people in the sweltering heat. The moment one steps into the museum, it feels like traveling through a tunnel of time; the noise and heat of the outside world are instantly isolated, replaced by an indescribable tranquility and coolness, a unique atmosphere formed by the intertwining of history and art.
Inside the exhibition halls, a silent dance of light and shadow unfolds. Soft beams of light filter through ancient windows, casting dappled patterns on each exhibit. Some are the crystallization of ancient wisdom—rough and primitive pottery silently narrating the hardships of the Stone Age; others are the masterpieces of modern literati—scrolls of calligraphy and paintings gently unfurl, exuding the fragrance of ink, as if one can hear the murmurs of scholars throughout history. These artifacts, spanning millennia, converge here into a silent dialogue, allowing every visitor to feel the profound weight of history and the infinite charm of art.
Visitors freely wander through this ocean of knowledge. Some pause in front of a particular exhibit, their gaze deep, as if engaging in a spiritual conversation with the ancients; others whisper softly, sharing their insights and reflections on history. Their faces all reveal a thirst for knowledge, a pursuit of beauty, and an endless curiosity and longing for this colorful world.
In September, although the outdoor heat in Wuhan remains intense, the museum offers a realm of coolness and tranquility. Here, people not only find a physical refuge from the heat but also experience a profound spiritual cleansing and elevation. Every gaze is a renewed recognition of beauty; every pause is a heartfelt embrace of history. The Wuhan Museum, in this unbearably hot season, transforms into a cultural beacon, illuminating the path forward and igniting endless imagination and longing for the past, present, and future in everyone's heart.

Right next to Hankou Railway Station is the jewelry exhibition!
● Exhibition sharing:
◇ Next to Hankou Railway Station, the Wuhan Museum is exhibiting jewelry from the Ming Dynasty!
The stars of the show are the gorgeous royal artifacts and jewelry, extremely luxurious.
Highly recommended for friends who are bored near Hankou Station and don't know where to go, just swipe your ID card to enter!
The exhibition features over 120 cultural relics, mostly burial objects unearthed from the Dingling of the Ming Tombs in Beijing and Wanli Emperor's jewelry from the Wuhan Museum's collection, many of which are being displayed for the first time.
◆ Exhibition highlights:
Ming Dynasty aesthetics, bright and moving.
In addition to the rich and charming Six Dragons and Three Phoenixes Crown, Wanli Emperor's red cord silk twelve-symbol fortune and longevity imperial robe, there are also various royal daily necessities. Even the smallest item is the epitome of luxury - pure gold, gilded, silverware, jade ware, turning the exhibition hall into a "golden hall".
The surprise:
The most surprising thing for me is the ceiling of the exhibition hall, which is decorated with the "North and South General Star Maps" surveyed during the Ming Dynasty's Chongzhen period. The starlight from 400 years ago shines upon us, creating an ultimate dreamy atmosphere.
To walk through the entire exhibition takes about an hour, and to help everyone better understand the stories behind the relics, the museum has set up volunteer-guided sessions at 10:00 and 14:30 (irregularly).
◇ Visiting suggestions:
If time permits, it is even more recommended to visit around 10:00 on Saturday mornings, when there will be 3 expert-level guides to take you through the exhibition in detail, for an immersive experience of the grandeur of the Ming Dynasty.
The cultural and creative area has canvas bags, fridge magnets, stickers... printed with royal artifacts, allowing you to take the splendor home in one go.
The stamp collection area's stamps are specially customized for the exhibition, bring your own notebook

Not far away from Hankou station.Wuhan museum focuses on history and development of Wuhan city. Exhibition halls on 2/F and 3/F present the ancient, modern and contemporary history of Wuhan. Ground floor exhibits antique ,pottery and ceramics. It is good to visit to undestand the city. Personally, I prefer the Hubei provincial museum more. Exhibits more fascinating over there. Hubei provincial museum is located in Wuchang district of Wuhan.

About the C-position Yuan blue and white 'Four Loves' plum vase 📜
Blue and white porcelain seemed to descend from the heavens, as the blue and white color was not a traditional favorite in China, and the material for 'Su Ma Li Qing' was not found in Jingdezhen.
'Su Ma Li Qing' originally came from Persia; currently, the top three collections of large Yuan blue and white pieces in the world are in Turkey, Iran, and Jiangxi Gao'an...
Especially, the large number of cellar-stored relics of Gao'an blue and white porcelain unearthed in Jiangxi has caused a sensation in the Chinese cultural relics community. The Yuan blue and white, which had not been popular, suddenly became well-known nationwide, prompting research into Yuan blue and white porcelain that continues to this day...
First, the Qingbai porcelain made Jingdezhen one of the six famous kilns, a milestone for the town; blue and white porcelain was the defining product of Jingdezhen, making its name known worldwide.
The Yuan blue and white porcelain was extensively destroyed after the establishment of the Ming Dynasty, leaving its remaining quantity a mystery. As time passed, it even disappeared from sight.
The treasure of the Wuhan Museum, the Yuan blue and white 'Four Loves' plum vase, was acquired by a stroke of luck at an antique shop.
