The castle was originally built by William I in the 11th century. Due to its long history, the design of the castle has continued to develop over time, royal preferences, and financial changes, mixing classical and modern elements. The entire Windsor Castle can be divided into the Upper, Middle and Lower Wards. The Upper Ward mainly includes Waterloo Hall (banquet hall), gallery and other palace furnishings, the Middle Ward has a round tower surrounded by a rose garden, and the Lower Ward has the Gothic-style St. George's Chapel. The upper area is mainly composed of state suites and royal private suites, which are famous for their collection of royal paintings and treasures, as well as furniture and decorations handed down from the Middle Ages, making each room here a small art exhibition room. The central area is dominated by the round tower surrounded by rose gardens. It was originally built of wood and later rebuilt with stone. The round tower was once a prison for royal enemies, but now it is mainly used to store royal documents and photography collections. St. George's Chapel in the Lower District is a fine example of English Gothic architecture, famous for its magnificent stone fan-vaulted roof and delicate and colorful stained glass. It has also hosted many royal weddings.
