Kuanzhai Alley is a reflection of the past of this ancient yet young city of Chengdu, a symbol deep in memory. When tourists walk in the alleys at dusk, accompanied by the setting sun and looking at the smoke from kitchens, scenes of the long-lost life of old city residents come to mind. Kuanzhai Alley is located near Changshun Street in Qingyang District, Chengdu, Sichuan, and consists of three parallel alleys: Kuan Alley, Zhai Alley, and Jing Alley, all of which are ancient-style courtyards with blue-gray bricks and tiles. Kuan Alley was called Xingren Hutong during the Xuantong years of the Qing Dynasty, with many buildings from the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, including some Western-style buildings left by churches. Zhai Alley is the "slow life" area, showcasing the courtyard culture of old Chengdu. 🎐I originally planned to visit Kuanzhai Alley during the Spring Festival holiday to experience the old Chengdu festive atmosphere, but as soon as I exited the subway station, I regretted it. It was impossible to stroll around comfortably as everywhere I looked was crowded with people. It felt like eighty percent of the tourists in Chengdu had come to visit Kuanzhai Alley. The entrances to the Broad and Narrow Alleys were closed, and visitors could only enter through Jing Alley, moving slowly, surrounded by the crowd. So I decided to just enjoy a leisurely visit to Jing Alley. 🛎️General Introduction: As a cultural icon of old Chengdu, Kuanzhai Alley consists of three parallel old-style streets and courtyard complexes, including the Broad Alley, Narrow Alley, and Jing Alley. Jing Alley is a winding narrow lane. During the Spring Festival, with the addition of the New Year goods market and the spring flower market, the area is brimming with festive spirit. 💮What to see: The blend of Chinese and Western architecture, iconic doorways, each courtyard is like a book, the old courtyards of Western Sichuan residences are a sight to behold. As I walk along, the 'most Chengdu' courtyard life unfolds like a scroll painting. For me, no matter how many times I visit, the ancient architecture of the old alleys is always fascinating. 👉What to do: From New Year's Eve of the Year of the Dragon to the Lantern Festival, the 'December Market' themed block in Jing Alley gathers hundreds of businesses, showcasing classic cuisine, colorful lanterns, trendy goods, and national intangible cultural heritage, recreating the prosperous scene of Tang and Song dynasty commercial culture.
