White Sands National Monument is a desert formed by weathering white gypsum in New Mexico. Huge wave-like gypsum dunes cover about 300 miles of desert area. At a glance, it was all white. The dunes are still growing and falling. It is strongly recommended to buy a circular board to go sandboarding, which is very exciting. It also needs to be reminded that you should remember to wear sunglasses when you visit to avoid the symptoms of snow blindness.

A Day at White Sands National Park
#northamericatrip
White Sands National Park, located in southern New Mexico, is a dazzling desert destination unlike any other. Spanning over 275 square miles, it’s the largest gypsum dune field in the world, and its shimmering, white sand creates an otherworldly landscape that captivates visitors.
Start your adventure by driving the Dunes Drive, an eight-mile scenic road that takes you deep into the heart of the park. Along the way, stop at pullouts to walk on the soft, cool sand and marvel at the endless waves of pristine dunes. The sand is made of gypsum, which reflects sunlight and stays cool underfoot, even on the hottest days.
For an immersive experience, try hiking one of the park’s marked trails, like the Interdune Boardwalk for an easy stroll or the Alkali Flat Trail for a more challenging trek across rolling dunes. The park is also a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, with animals like lizards, foxes, and roadrunners adapting to this unique ecosystem.
One of the most exciting activities at White Sands is sand sledding. Rent a sled from the visitor center or bring your own and slide down the steep dunes—it’s a thrill for all ages.
As the day winds down, don’t miss the sunset. The dunes glow in soft hues of pink and gold, creating a magical end to your visit. White Sands National Park is a stunning blend of adventure and tranquility, offering a truly unforgettable experience.

White Sands, a vast white desert
White Sands is located at the southern end of New Mexico.
You can go around it by car.
There is a gate to enter and the toll is $25.
There are some portable toilets on the way, but I think it's better to go to the building at the entrance that houses the visitor center and souvenir shop.
At this facility, you can learn about the creatures that live in White Sands and the origins of the desert.
There were many videos and photos on the panels, which were very easy to understand and informative.
There were many souvenirs that I wanted.
In addition to the general items, there were also accessories made by Native Americans, and I bought some earrings. I really like them.
You can enter the desert by car and stop here and there to take photos. It's pure white as far as the eye can see, so be careful not to get too far from your car as you may get lost.
It was quiet and felt like there was no one in the world.
It was very good and I recommend it.
