Hidden in the heart of Canterbury, Westgate Gardens is a narrow green space along the Stour River, with a 13th-century stone wall as a natural frame. Three plane trees over 200 years old in the garden form a green dome, and their thick roots interweave with the cobblestone path on the river bank to form a unique landform. The medieval Westgate Tower is reflected in the calm river, forming a time-space dialogue with the shuttle punts. It is recommended to enter from the back door of the Roman Museum and walk west along the river bank. You can find a Victorian cast iron pavilion - street performers often play classical music here in summer. The garden has distinct landscapes in four seasons: snowdrop carpets in February, iris bushes in May, and maple leaf tunnels in October. There are many water-friendly platforms on the riverside wooden boardwalk, which is suitable for observing kingfishers hunting. Open 24 hours a day all year round, free of charge, with landscape lighting at night. Note that some lawn areas are prone to water accumulation in rainy season, so it is recommended to wear non-slip shoes. In winter, the light weakens after 3 p.m., so photography enthusiasts need to seize the midday light.
