Wenhai is a gorgeous and tranquil lake sitting silently in the north of Lijiang. I fell in love with this place a year ago and finally this time I am back with @VickWalks with all of our camping gears and a passion to fully discover its beauty. We were lucky to experience a heavy snow on our visit and it turned the area into a snow white winter wonderland. Despite the freezing temperature and high winds at night, we absolutely enjoyed camping out in the snow by the lake. The next day after packing up we took the time to explore the Naxi minority villages nearby and we were welcomed by a herd of cows and smiling local villagers. A beautiful paddock hidden in the Lijiang mountains, Wenhai is a dreamlike area with coffee shops and horse riding surrounding a lake. There were not many people here, especially compared to the crowded ancient towns nearby. When the sun shines on the flat lake it sparkles and shines creating a beautiful romantic effect. Watching the horses run in the distance really made it feel like we were in a fairytale! ✨🏔️ ✨Recommendations: 1- Buy Oxygen tanks! There’s a convenience store selling snacks and oxygen tanks; I definitely recommend having an oxygen tank on hand if you plan on spending a few hours here. We didn’t realise how high up we were and were running around a lot which resulted in a bad headache 😂😭 2- organise transport ahead of time! I recommend renting a car for your time in Lijiang/ Yulong to make it easier to access these hidden gems. We called a Didi to take us from Baisha ancient town to Huashu Coffee shop in Wenhai and got picked up quickly with no problems. However, when we tried to call a car to take us back to Baisha, no cars on any taxi apps would pick us up. This was due to the fact that there is only one main road to Wenhai and it is up a twisty mountain road (not as easy drive). At an altitude of around 3100 meters, the scenic area is currently under development. It is beautiful and less crowded, with no entrance fee. This place gave us an unexpected surprise, very similar to Xinjiang and western Sichuan. We discovered that there are very few hotels in Wenhai, making it a hidden gem of a tourist destination that hasn't been commercialized. We didn't expect to find such a beautiful designer hotel here! And it's newly opened! 【Lismansuo Wild】 opened in August this year. The architectural design was handled by SOPA, and the interior design team is Fusion Design, renowned for their work. It faces Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and is adjacent to the meadow pastures. The design is very artistic, and the views from the rooms are stunning. The rooms include mountain view rooms, garden view rooms, snow mountain view rooms, 150-square-meter three-bedroom family rooms, loft duplex rooms, and private hot spring pool rooms.
