It's not very big, but it's not so commercialized. Wenhai is a gorgeous and tranquil lake sitting silently in the north of Lijiang. I fell in love with this place a year ago and finally this time I am back with @VickWalks with all of our camping gears and a passion to fully discover its beauty. We were lucky to experience a heavy snow on our visit and it turned the area into a snow white winter wonderland. Despite the freezing temperature and high winds at night, we absolutely enjoyed camping out in the snow by the lake. The next day after packing up we took the time to explore the Naxi minority villages nearby and we were welcomed by a herd of cows and smiling local villagers. When I first came to Lijiang, I hesitated between Wenhai and Yuhulong. I went to Wenhai and later compared the two. Here's a comparison based on transportation, scenery, and facilities: 1. Transportation: Yuhulong > Wenhai Wenhai: No public transportation. You can only drive or take a taxi. It takes about 1 hour from Shuhe Ancient Town. ⚠️Driving to Wenhai requires some skill. The uphill road is full of sharp serpentine bends. Drive slowly. Fortunately, there isn't much traffic. Just be careful of oncoming cars when turning. Yuhulong: Accessible by bus, taxi, or car. It's only a 20-minute taxi ride from Baisha Ancient Town. 2. Scenery: Wenhai > Yuhulong 👉Similarities: Both are famous for their lakes backed by snow-capped mountains. Both lakes are local reservoirs. Both have vast grasslands. Both are incredibly windy by the lake. 👉Differences: 1) Wenhai is much larger than Yuhulong.😍 It has vast grasslands where you can run freely (perhaps that's why it's called Wenhai, "Wen Sea," not Wenhu, "Wen Lake"). 2) Wenhai is very pristine!🏔️ Endless green meadows, snow-capped mountains shrouded in mist in the distance—perfect for a wallpaper! Plus, there are herds of cattle grazing everywhere, giving it a New Zealand pasture feel.❗️Don't get too close to the cows, though. I always feel like they might kick you. They seem quite fierce. 3) Wenhai is undeveloped and very primitive. The wind blows across the grass, revealing grazing cattle and sheep. Watch out for cow dung.💩 Haha 3. Facilities: Yuhulong > Wenhai Yuhulong has complete tourist facilities, including coffee shops,☕️ horseback riding,🐎 restaurants, and more. Wenhai is located in the mountain village of Wenhai. Its beautiful scenery was accidentally discovered by passing tourists. There are no dining facilities, but there is a public toilet in the village. If you plan to stay in Wenhai for a while, be sure to bring your own food. I brought a huge bag of snacks, just like a kid on a school trip. It's funny thinking about it now. Wenhai requires some transportation effort. If you have plenty of time and plan to drive, come here to see the snow-capped mountains and grasslands, and experience the unique Yunnan pastoral scenery. 4. It's expensive to take a taxi, and you may have to wait a while to get back. Riding a scooter is not recommended because it's windy and unsafe. After going up the mountain from Baisha Ancient Town, the road is winding and bumpy. Friends who are prone to motion sickness should take good care of themselves. Novice drivers should pay attention to safety. ▫️Recommended photo spots: ❶ When you are almost at the village, there is a high point on the right (there is a coffee cart), and the bird's-eye view of Wenhai is really beautiful ❷Across the lake, standing by the lake, taking a telephoto shot from the road to the snow-capped mountains, it feels like being in Tibet ❸The wooden house and big tree at Ritz-Carlton, Illuminati really look like you are in a foreign country. There weren’t many places to stay in Wenhai, so I just chose the best one. So it’s not that I didn’t spend any money, it’s really good. The hotel has a very good sense of design and the rooms are very comfortable, with plenty of sunlight and floor heating. When taking pictures, it really gives you the illusion of being abroad. During breakfast, the restaurant was filled with sunshine, outside was the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and the pool was sparkling, it was so beautiful. You won't be bored in the hotel. In the afternoon, the hotel will organize you to go up the mountain to pick pine cones and do handmade DIY. In the evening, there will be a bonfire party and pot-dance with tea and pot-dance around the fire. If you like to drink, you can also drink the barley wine brewed in the store. It has a high alcohol content, so don't drink too much. How can you miss Wenhai when you come to Lijiang? This small Naxi village under the snow-capped mountains has few people, beautiful scenery, quiet and comfortable environment, and is perfect for a slow-paced travel.

Lijiang Wenhai Village A small village beneath the snow-capped mountains I went there at the end of February The cafe owner said it was the off-season But I felt so relaxed during the off-season! For those who have more time in Lijiang, I suggest spending half a day in Wenhai Village You won't be disappointed! - 📍Lijiang Wenhai Village 🚗Navigate to "Wenhai Village" ⚠️Electric scooters are not recommended! There are many potholes and winding mountain roads. The road conditions are not good, and I personally think riding an electric scooter is very dangerous! Taking a taxi is not very convenient, and you may not be able to get one (it's a bit remote, and even if you can get there, you may not be able to get back). ⚠️The road is bumpy. If you are prone to carsickness, remember to take motion sickness medicine in advance! - ⏰We departed from Lijiang Old Town around 12:30, and the whole journey took about 1 hour. After about 20 minutes, you will pass a temple—Fuguo Temple, where you can stop and visit (there is a restroom here🚻) (p16-p17). After leaving Fuguo Temple, the bumpy mountain road begins. Drivers, please be sure to maintain a safe speed and drive carefully!
