Tham Krabok Temple
Wat Tham Krabok, Phra Phutthabat District, Saraburi Province
In addition to the footprints of the Lord Buddha, Phra Phutthabat District also has a large black Buddha statue made from lava stone.
The large Buddha statue, which is visible in its entirety, is dark gray because these Buddha statues were created by melting stones from the mountains in this area with high heat until they melted into lava, before being poured into molds to form the Buddha statues we see today.
The stone Buddha statues are enshrined on a wide, raised platform. The stairs leading up are flanked on the left and right by two standing Buddhas, called Phra Noen Chan (left hand raised) and Phra Noen Phan (right hand raised). When you walk up the stairs, you will find a wide, circular platform surrounded by Buddha statues in the Mara-Vijaya posture. In the center are groups of Buddha statues in various postures, facing in all four directions, with the backdrop of mountains and forests.
