🏕Wat Tha Luang, a third-class royal temple, is an ancient temple of Phichit. There is no clear evidence of when it was first built, but there is evidence that it was built in 1845 during the reign of King Rama III. At that time, it was a monastery and had not yet received the royal charter of the boundary of the temple.
🙏 Inside the temple is Luang Pho Phet, a Buddha statue in the Mara-Vijaya attitude, Chiang Saen style, which is over 800 years old and cast from bronze. It has beautiful Buddha characteristics.
🙏 According to history, Phra Phichit, the governor of the city, wanted to enshrine the principal Buddha image in the city. When the Ayutthaya army passed through the city to suppress the Chom Thong rebellion in Chiang Mai, Phra Phichit asked the commander that if the rebellion was suppressed, he should bring a Buddha image to bring back.
🏞 When the battle was over, the commander invited the Luang Pho Phet Buddha image to be floated on a gourd-shaped raft down the Ping River and left it with the governor of Kamphaeng Phet. The governor of Phichit invited it to be enshrined at Wat Nakhon Chum (old Phichit town) and then moved it to be enshrined at the ordination hall of Wat Tha Luang, Mueang Phichit District, until today. 🙏In addition, inside the temple, there is also Luang Pho Phat (Phat), the first Buddha image of Wat Tha Luang, enshrined in the Luang Pho Phat chapel in front of the ordination hall of Luang Pho Phet.
