Wat Sommanas Ratchaworawihan
Address - Along Khlong Phadung Kasem, Krung Kasem Road, Wat Sommanas Subdistrict, Pom Prap Sattru Phai District, Bangkok
Not far from Wat Makut Kasatriyaram Ratchaworawihan
Getting there - There is a bus stop in front of the temple. There is bus number 53. It is recommended to take a taxi or private car for the most convenience.
Atmosphere/Location - The entrance to the temple is on Krung Kasem Road. When you enter, there will be a parking lot (fee). On the right and left will be Wat Sommanas School. Before entering the temple, there will be a temple gate. When you enter, you will see the temple's chapel.
There are 8 round white pillars. There are 2 stairs. There are 3 doors to the chapel. Carved with gold elephants and deities, contrasting with the white walls of the chapel. It is very beautiful. On the side, there are large windows decorated with gold Thai patterns.
Unfortunately, the chapel is not open to visitors. It will be open during important religious holidays and festivals.
Going around to the back of the chapel, there will be a large golden pagoda. Originally, the Chedi was not open. But I was lucky that the staff went to clean it, so I asked for permission to go in.
Inside the pagoda, there are standing and meditating Buddha statues, arranged alternately on all 3 sides, except for the side next to the chapel. The pagoda is similar to the pagoda of Wat Makut Kasatriyaram Ratchaworawihan, but the color is different (Wat Sommanas Ratchaworawihan is golden, Wat Makut Kasatriyaram is white).
When I went at 11 am, the sunlight hit the golden pagoda beautifully. Next to the pagoda is a church, which is currently undergoing renovation and cannot be entered. The surrounding atmosphere is quiet and the area is clean. There are some tourist tours.
The shop is open every day from 5 am to 8 pm.

Sommanas Temple Tour Trip
This trip, let's try taking a bus to visit temples in Bangkok. Let's start with Wat Sommanas Vihara as the first temple. When we arrived, we were a little surprised because the temple looked very quiet and there weren't many people visiting. However, the view inside was beautiful, shady, and peaceful. When we walked around, it turned out that the church was closed for renovation. This might be the reason why there were no visitors. So we could only take pictures outside. On the day the renovation is finished, there should be quite a lot of people. The temple is also very beautiful. When the renovation is finished, we will come back to visit again. ❤️❤️😊

Suryanuwat Museum for National Development 🇹🇭
A source for learning about the history of national development.. of Thailand. The original home of Maha Amat Ek Phraya Suriyanuwat (Kerd Bunnag), who was historically important in many ways related to the development of Thailand. It is now the office of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB).
The museum has organized exhibition content into 7 zones as follows:
🌿First Light: When Siam began to adapt to the modern economic system after the Bowring Treaty, at that time Siam still lacked modern economic thinkers. More than 50 years later, Siam had its first economics textbook, "Traphayasat" by Phraya Suriyanuwat. That was the "first light" of modern economics in Thailand.
🌿First Light: When the world economy changed again after World War II, Thailand needed a "top-notch" organization. 1950 was the year that "First Light" became the National Economic Council before becoming the National Economic and Social Development Board today.
🌿Guiding Light: The important role of the NESDB is to lay the foundation for national development, developing infrastructure to lay the foundation for economic and social development. And design a new vision for the future to be the most suitable "guiding light" for the country. In the past, Thailand has implemented 12 national economic and social development plans.
🌿Light in the dark world: Economic and social crises in Thailand over the past decades, since the establishment of the National Economic and Social Development Board until now, the National Economic and Social Development Board has played a role in helping to resolve the situation to pass well by adjusting the plan and determining the development guidelines to be in line with the situation. It shows that every crisis always requires a "guiding light" to overcome the darkness.
🌿Light from the sky: 1997 was one of the most difficult years for Thai people. The Thai economy fell into the darkest abyss. The whole world called it "Tom Yum Kung". At that time, Thai people relied on "light from the sky" by adopting the philosophy of the sufficiency economy of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great as a guideline for living. Thailand gradually returned to the light again.
🌿Light to the future: When the world entered the new industrial era in full force, the old forms of trade could not continue, while new forms of business grew day by day. The new era economy therefore needs a blueprint as a "light to the future" for moving forward steadily and sustainably.
🌿Light of wisdom: A research room for "specialized books" on the economy and society, the full version of the National Economic and Social Development Plan, and other related matters. It is a light of wisdom for filling up knowledge and ideas to keep up with the economy and society in every change.

Wat Sommanas, Thailand's Taj Mahal
#triptravelchina
- Wat Sommanas Ratchaworawihan was built around 1853 during the reign of King Rama IV. He ordered the construction to dedicate to Queen Sommanas Wattanawadi, the first queen.
- The temple uses Thai and Chinese architectural styles from the Rattanakosin period. It has a part that extends to the covered walkway of the chedi. The gable is in the shape of a crown and a royal crown. There is a large golden chedi in the Sri Lankan style with a high pointed top. Behind the chedi is the ordination hall, arranged in a single axis, similar to the plan of an Ayutthaya temple.

The Royal Memorial of Love at Wat Sommanat Ratchaworawihan
🏰 Wat Sommanat Ratchaworawihan, a second-class royal monastery, was built in 1853 under the royal initiative of King Rama IV. The temple was constructed along the canal, reminiscent of Ayutthaya.
🙏 It was dedicated as a royal merit to Queen Sommanat Wattanawadi, the first consort, who had passed away. This is the origin of the name Wat Sommanat Wihan.
🏡 Upon completion, the temple became an ideal place for monks seeking tranquility, as it is located not too far from the city center.
🏰 The temple features Rattanakosin-style Thai architecture. Inside the ordination hall and the vihara, there are beautiful and intricate mural paintings.
🙏 The principal Buddha image in the ordination hall is Phra Sombuddhasiri, brought from Wat Ratchathiwat.
🙏 The principal Buddha image in the vihara is Phra Sombuddha Sommanat Wattanawadi Natbophit.
🛕 There are two stupas. The larger one is a golden stupa in the Lankan style, gleaming in gold, enshrining the Buddha's relics. The smaller one (Mon stupa) is beautifully designed, similar to the Parinirvana stupa in India.

Pay homage to Phra Phuttha Wachira Mongkut at Wat Makut Kasattriyaram.
🏞 After the excavation of the Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem as the outer moat of the city, King Rama IV had the idea to have temples lined along the canal to resemble Ayutthaya.
🏰 Wat Makut Kasattriyaram Ratchaworawihan, a second-class royal monastery, was built alongside Wat Sommanat Ratchaworawihan and completed in 1868. It was initially called Wat Nam Banthat and later renamed Wat Makut Kasattriyaram.
🙏 It is said that this temple was the last royal monastery built by King Rama IV before his death.
🏰 The vihara and ubosot feature the royal crown emblem of King Rama IV on the gables and above the door and window arches.
🙏 Inside the main vihara, there is the principal Buddha image, Phra Phuttha Wachira Mongkut, in a meditation posture.
🛕 The white chedi enshrines the Buddha's relics. Once, the chedi collapsed due to a severe lightning strike. King Rama V restored the chedi with his personal funds and placed a bronze royal crown atop the chedi as a Buddhist offering.

King Rama IV built Wat Sommanasrajworawihan as a royal dedication to Queen Sommanas Wattanawadi, his beloved wife, to the point that it could be called the Taj Mahal of Thailand.
This temple was built in the Thai art style of the Rattanakosin period. The temple layout is beautiful, arranged with a chapel, a pagoda, and a temple on the same plane. The temple is open to the chapel and pagoda on major Buddhist holy days to give relatives the opportunity to make merit for the bones in the pagoda.
