Wat Sanam Chai: An Ancient Temple of the Old Capital
Wat Sanam Chai is an ancient temple located in Moo 10, Ban Pom Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. It is believed to have been built during the Ayutthaya period. Although only ruins remain today, the beauty of ancient Thai architecture is still evident. The temple houses ancient chedis, old viharns, and the base of the principal Buddha image, all of which bear traces of past glory. Sanam Chai Temple Pagoda
Wat Sanam Chai Chedi is located in the middle of a garden at the Bang Sai intersection, where the Noi River meets the Chao Phraya River. It is a square-shaped chedi with twelve recessed corners, approximately 211 years old. The base of the chedi is square, 8 wa long on each side, and the height of the chedi is approximately 15 wa. There are three staircases leading up to it: the north, south, and west. The Fine Arts Department has registered it as an ancient site in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province.
