Invite to worship "Phra That Cho Hae", the sacred Buddha image for people born in the Year of the Tiger.
“Wat Phra That Cho Hae”, Tambon Cho Hae, Amphoe Mueang, Phrae Province
Phra That Cho Hae is an octagonal pagoda with twelve recessed corners covered with gold leaf. The pagoda is 33 meters high and has a square base 11 meters wide on each side. It is in the Chiang Saen style. Inside the pagoda are the relics of the Lord Buddha, hair relics, and the left elbow of the Lord Buddha.
Phra That Cho Hae is an ancient site that is over a thousand years old and has been in Phrae for a long time. There are two main legends about the origin of this pagoda:
- The legend of Phra That Cho Hae in the chronicles of Sukhothai states that Wat Phra That Cho Hae was built between 1879-1881 by “Khun Lua Ai Kom” who built the pagoda at “Doi Kosiyathachakbappat” (the location of Phra That Cho Hae) and brought the relics of the Lord Buddha that were given by “Phra Maha Thammaracha (Lithai)” (when he was the Maha Uparat of Si Satchanalai) was enshrined under the base of this pagoda, which is now Phra That Cho Hae.
-The legend of Phra That Cho Hae in the legend of Phra Chao Lia Lok states that in the past, when the Lord Buddha came to Mueang Phon (Phrae), he stayed at “Doi Kosiyathachakkhaban”, the leader of the Lawa people, “Khun Lawa Ai Kom”, came to pay homage. The Lord Buddha performed a miracle and gave the Buddha’s relics (hair relics) as a souvenir. He also ordered that after he passed away, the relics from his left elbow should be enshrined in this place, which is now the location of Phra That Cho Hae.
Apart from Phra That Cho Hae, Wat Phra That Cho Hae also has other interesting things, such as:
-“Luang Pho Cho Hae” or “Phra Chao Cho Hae”, the ancient principal Buddha image that is hundreds of years old in the ordination hall. Built in Lanna art, Chiang Saen, Sukhothai (It is assumed that it was built after the construction of Phra That Cho Hae)
- Luang Pho Tan Jai or Phra Chao Tan Jai (Phra Chao Tan Jai), which is another sacred object of the temple that people like to worship and is one of the famous Luang Pho Tan Jai in Thailand. It is believed that if anyone comes to ask for a blessing, their wish will come true.
"Phra Phuttha Lokanat Bophit" is a Buddha statue in the reclining Buddha posture, enshrined in the applied Lanna art temple. Inside, there are beautiful murals.
In addition, there is also a teak Buddha, a reclining Buddha, an ancient pulpit, a shrine of Khru Ba Srivijaya, a kumphand, a stone inscription, Cho Hae Arboretum, and ancient Naga stairs on all four sides of the entrance.
