The temple is located on Ratchadamnoen Road, Nai Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Originally named Wat Phra Borommathat, it is one of the most significant religious sites in Southern Thailand and the entire country. In 1719 BE, King Sri Thammasokarat founded Nakhon Si Thammarat and constructed a new stupa in the Lankan style, standing 55.78 meters tall. The Fine Arts Department restored the golden spire in 1995 BE. From the base to the top of the spire, it measures 6.80 meters and is covered with ten-karat gold. Within the temple grounds, there are several important viharns, including the Phra Borommathat Chedi, which houses numerous gold artifacts and valuable items.
