Worship Phra That Chaiya
#Surat Thani #Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya Ratchaworawihan Pay homage to Phra That Chaiya, an ancient chedi of Chaiya city, one of the three sacred ancient sites of worship in the South. Actually, I am not a southern person, but I like the South very much. Every time I go there, I have to pay homage to Phra That Chaiya every time. Inside the temple, it looks very sacred. There is a model of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara and a Buddha statue with a reclining Buddha. It is considered a temple that is a symbol of Surat Thani people.

Legend of Phra Borommathat Chaiya
Once upon a time, there were two Indian brothers named Pa Mo and Pa Man. The two traveled by sailboat to Chaiya City. When they arrived, they brought their followers to land at Ban Na Khai, near Wat Na Mueang. Later, the governor assigned Pa Mo, who was an expert craftsman, to build the Phra Borommathat Chaiya Chedi. When it was finished, he cut off Pa Mo's hands and feet so that he would not build such beautiful chedis for others. After that, Pa Mo could not withstand the poison of his wounds and eventually died. Later, the governor cast a statue of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara to represent Pa Mo.

Phra Borommathat Chaiya, Surat Thani Province
According to the stories of the people of Chaiya, there is a legend about the Phra Borommathat Chaiya Chedi. Once, there were two Indian brothers named Pa Mo and Pa Man. They traveled by sailboat to Chaiya. They brought their followers to land at Ban Na Khai near Wat Na Mueang in Tambon Le Met. The governor assigned Pa Mo, who was an expert in construction, to build the Phra Borommathat Chaiya Chedi. When it was finished, he cut off his hands and feet so that Pa Mo would not build such a beautiful chedi for anyone else. Pa Mo could not stand the wounds and died. The governor cast a statue of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara as a symbol of Pa Mo. His younger brother, Pa Man, went to live on Koh Phat Man and remained there until his death. Pa Man’s house was located on a high ground that was not flooded. There was a rice field around it covering an area of about 1 rai. In ancient times, this place was sacred and highly respected by the villagers. Manora troupes traveling through it had to stop to pay respect and dance and make offerings. Any troupe that did not respect the troupe would be dragged away or other problems would occur. #SouthernTeam

Wat Phra That Chaiya, Royal Monastery, an ancient temple in the South
If you drive to visit the southern region on the Gulf of Thailand, such as Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, you will definitely pass Chaiya District. Wat Chaiya is in this district. Stopping by to pay homage before starting the southern trip is an interesting thing. I did this too. The temple is not far from the main road, Route 41. It only takes a short drive. It definitely won't ruin your trip.
We arrived around 3:00 PM. There weren't many tourists or people paying homage at this time. We could walk around and fully admire the chedi.
** They say that this is one of the three oldest temples in the southern region. It is also a first-class royal temple. The interior looks very peaceful and sacred.**#Surat Thani #Chaiya #Phra That Chaiya #Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya Ratchaworawihan #Travel South #Travel Surat Thani #Surat Thani #Sai Mu #Worship #Drive to travel

Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya Ratchaworawihan, Surat Thani.
This temple gives the feeling of not being in the South at all, it has a very Ayutthaya vibe (personal opinion).
The temple area is shady and peaceful with ample parking space, but it's not as bustling as temples in the central region. There are no vendors in the temple (visited during COVID).
The stupa is not very large, but it stands out with its white color accented with gold. The design is very beautiful.
