Wat Pai Rong Wua or Wat Photharam is a famous temple in Suphan Buri Province. It is located in Bang Ta Ther Subdistrict, Song Phi Nong District. The temple covers a total area of 248 rai. The temple was originally a bamboo forest where villagers tied up their cows while farming. It was built in 1926. It was originally a monastery on an area of 20 rai. Later, the villagers of Pai Rong Wua invited Luang Por Khom from Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat in Mueang District to be the abbot. Luang Por Khom built “Phra Phuttha Khodom”, the largest bronze Buddha statue in Thailand. Construction began in 1959 and took 17 years to complete. In addition to Phra Phuttha Khodom, there is also “Phra Kakusandho”, built between 1975 and 1980, a large Buddha statue in the Mara-Vijaya attitude.
The general public likes to pay homage to the Four Holy Places located in front of the Kakusandha statue. It consists of buildings modeled after four important Buddhist sites in India and Nepal: Lumbini Garden, the birthplace of the Buddha, which is currently in Nepal; the Buddha Gaya Stupa, the place where he attained enlightenment; the Sarnath Stupa, which is the location of the Isipatana Deer Park, the place where the first sermon was given to the Pancavaggiya; and Kusinara, the place where the Buddha passed away.
