Wat Mahathat, Sukhothai Historical Park
An important temple of Sukhothai, it has a lotus bud-shaped or rice-bunch-shaped pagoda, which is a true Sukhothai art style. It is the main pagoda, surrounded by 8 pagodas on the same base, which are laterite prangs in the 4 directions and castle-shaped pagodas made of bricks influenced by Lanna. From the survey, it was found that in the area of Wat Mahathat, there are as many as 200 pagodas of various styles, 10 wihans, 8 pavilions, 1 ordination hall, and 4 ponds. On the east side of the main pagoda, there is a large laterite-made vihara. There is a pedestal that used to house the largest bronze Buddha image in Thailand, Phra Sri Sakyamuni. It has now been moved to Wat Suthat, Bangkok. On the north and south sides of the Mahathat pagoda, there is a standing Buddha image inside the pavilion, called "Phra Attharat".
