#myhiddengems Yes, this where the Volvo story began. But Gotherburg or Goteborg, amongst the world's most sustainable cities has so much more to offer to travellers. Amongst the biggest of cities in Sweden. I love it's location. It took me a little less than 3 hours of riding the ferry before I arrived from Denmark to Sweden. I was told norway was merely 2 hours of driving. I like crossing over to countries by the sea and land borders. Compared to the drag that airports have become. While on this trip I also covered Malmo, Jonkoping and Stockholm. I found Gothenburg to be the most lively of them all. There also seemed to be a lot more immigrants here. I wouldn't comment on that as a positive or negative but just an observation. The trams were a wonderful experience and affordable. I mostly used them for getting around in gothenburg. During my 3 nights in this city I visited several interesting places that I recommend. Namely consisting of Museums. There is the Volvo Museum, Gothenburg Museum of Natural History. Other than that I saw the Botaniska Trädgård. Huge free garden ! There also js the iseberg Tivolí where one could ride rollercoasters and other amusement rides. | A great place that car fans can’t miss. Many people who travel to Gothenburg will come to the [Volvo Museum] to experience the century-old history of automobile development in Northern Europe. There were originally hundreds of Volvo's classic models with a history of nearly a century: including sports cars, race cars, trucks, fire trucks, tractors, and even engines for armored vehicles and fighter jets. However, the museum is currently being renovated and was closed to the public last year. It is now not expected to reopen until early 2025. With special permission, we visited the warehouse where these classic cars are now stored. Hundreds of classic models of various eras were neatly arranged in front of us. Walking among them, it felt like we had experienced the entire history of automobile development. Really shocking! ! You can see the earliest square box cars with wooden spokes; models from before and after World War II, often seen in movies; and convertible sports cars from the 1950s and 1960s! ...It's a pity that we can't take pictures in the garage. We can only go to the entrance of the warehouse to take a group photo with these representative models. I really like this little white sports car. This is the P1900 sports car launched by Volvo in 1956, one of the few convertibles in Volvo's history. Because it has only been on the market for more than a year, it is said that the number of manufactured units is less than 1,000, making it even more precious now. We are specially allowed to get on the car and experience the operation in person. The mechanical beauty from the industrial era is irresistible. All the classic cars here are carefully maintained and are in drivable condition, and there are many old mechanics who have retired long ago who volunteer to participate in the maintenance work of these old guys who built them while working. This also makes me look forward to the reopening of the new museum! If you come to Gothenburg this year, you can go to the new [Volvo World]. It's right next to Gothenburg's amusement park. The whole is a circular modern building. There are now some classic cars on display, and of course the larger area is dedicated to the display of various Volvo safety technologies, as well as interactive experiences that support environmental protection. For example, in the penultimate picture, there is an interactive ball introducing giant pandas. Parents with children can also let their children experience interactions such as operating an excavator, or simulate driving attention tests. The Volvo World Hall displays a classic car PV800 (the last picture) used by the King of Sweden. The current official car of the King of Sweden is an extended version of the Volvo S80. The history of this PV800 can be traced back to the Second World War, and it is now mainly used for certain celebrations. It is usually in the exhibition hall, and the king will drive through here when he needs it. For car fans, this is an experience not to be missed.
