[2025 Yokosuka Attraction] Travel Guide for Verny Park (Updated Apr)

Between Yokosuka Station and Keikyu Shioiri Station, there is Verny Park. As I happened to pass by, I saw the Nikko Monkey Corps!!! I used to see them on TV a lot. It brings back memories. With that in mind, I went to see them perform live. The monkeys' acrobatics and the little humorous moves are so clever! I wonder how they do it? Maybe they understand human laughter?! While I was thinking this, the act ended. Bravo!! It was a great show.

#EastJapan We went to Verny Park, which is just a short walk from Yokosuka Station. You can see the ocean and feel relaxed with the European garden-style fountains and rose gardens! There's a cannon monument, typical of Yokosuka, and a submarine and fleet across the sea! The kids were excited to see the ships, which are rare. #springwander A popular park with a panoramic view of Yokosuka Main Port. The name is after Verny, a French engineer who contributed to the construction of the former Yokosuka Steel Mill site on the other side of the river, and the park, which is maintained by incorporating a geometric French garden style, matches the atmosphere of the port city of Yokosuka. The boardwalk along the sea, where you can feel the sea breeze and enjoy a pleasant walk, is part of the approximately 10 km promenade "Umikaze-no-roji" that runs from JR Yokosuka Station to Kannonzaki. About 130 kinds of 1,300 roses are planted in the flower bed, and you can enjoy the colourful and beautiful flowers and elegant fragrance twice a year in spring and autumn. During the flowering season, "Rose Festa" is held full of events such as kitchen cars, marches, and music performances.

As the cold winter wind blows across your face and snowflakes quietly fall on your shoulders, Japan welcomes the most romantic time of the year - the winter fireworks festival. #japantrip Have you been out to Verny park, right off base, next to the Coaska Mall? 🌹 Have you visited the Yokosuka Modern Heritage Museum Thibaudier Residence, or the Verny Commemorative Museum, both located in Verny Park? These two spots are worth a stop if you have interest in the history of Yokosuka and how this area was developed. Both museums are FREE and their displays are in Japanese AND English. 🇯🇵 The museum staff are very friendly and happy to answer questions. The Yokosuka Modern Heritage Museum is located right next to the Amalfi Blue restaurant and has a 15 minute movie that plays each hour for 200 yen per person, that gives a little insight into the westernization of Japan. This museum also holds a large map outlining many different important spots you can visit in and around Yokosuka. And cards you can keep, like paint swatches, on important landmarks. 👀 Recommend!

Verny Park is located along the coastline of Yokosuka, Kanagawa. On the opposite bank is the former Yokosuka Ironworks site, and the park was developed with a French garden in mind, named after the French engineer Verny, who contributed to the construction of the steelworks. There are 1,300 roses on the grounds! #thingstodo Highlight of my visit to Yokosuka. Probably one of the few places in Yokosuka that have such an open and direct view of the ships docked at the port and also open to the public. On one side you can see the JMDF HQ and their vessels, while on the other side you can see the US naval base and their vessels. Cool place to walk through or sit down and just enjoy the view. Also conveniently located right next to JR Yokosuka station.
