Visit Conan's Hometown - Tottori, Japan
As a backpacker, exploring Tottori Prefecture will be an unforgettable experience. After arriving in Tottori, the best way to get around is by public bus and walking, which is economical and allows you to experience the local culture.
🛏Accommodation
We recommend staying in a youth hostel or backpacker inn, which are usually affordable and conveniently located. In Tottori City, there are several youth hostels located in the city center, making it easy to visit the major attractions.
✅Must-try experiences:
Must-see attractions include ✔️Tottori Sand Dunes, where you can enjoy sandboarding and admire the spectacular sunset. ✔️Uradome Coast is known for its unique rock formations and clear waters, perfect for hiking and photography. Also, don't forget to visit ✔️Conan Town, the hometown of Gosho Aoyama, the author of Detective Conan, where you can find Conan elements everywhere.
🍽Food recommendations:
Be sure to try Tottori Wagyu beef, which is tender and juicy, and a must-try. The local seafood is also not to be missed, especially the Matsuba crab, which is delicious.
📝Tips:
1️⃣Remember to buy a bus day pass in advance, which allows unlimited rides on local buses in one day and is very cost-effective.
2️⃣The attractions in Tottori Prefecture are relatively scattered, so it is recommended to plan your itinerary in advance and arrange your time reasonably.
3️⃣When visiting, be sure to protect the environment and respect local customs.
The Wandering Gourmand
Conan's hometown - Tottori, Japan, 1-day tour. Save this post!
Day 1 Conan Town + Conan Airport (Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport)
Recommended for fans of Detective Conan. Please refer to the previous post for the guide.
Day 2 This post is about the itinerary for the second day. Wake up naturally in the morning.
Tottori Sand Dunes + The Sand Museum + Uradome Coast
🚌Transportation guide:
Recommended transportation app: Google Maps
1️⃣Tottori Station ➡️ Tottori Sand Dunes (Bus)
I took the Kirin Lion Loop Bus. The fixed fare for adults is JPY 300. Board the bus from the back door and get off from the front door to pay (if you have a JR Pass, you can show it to the driver when you get off to ride for free).
There are many specialty stores near Tottori Sand Dunes. You can take a look.
🌟Highly recommended Tottori Sand Dunes. Very impressive!
2️⃣Tottori Sand Dunes ➡️ The Sand Museum (Walk)
Experience the amazing craftsmanship of artists from around the world.
3️⃣The Sand Museum ➡️ Uradome Coast (Bus)
There is a torii gate ⛩️ on the island along the coast, but Uradome Coast is far from Tottori Station and is in a remote location. If you are in a hurry, it is not recommended to go.
⚠️When you board the bus, you need to take a numbered ticket from the machine at the back door. Then, when you get off, pay according to the price on the screen at the front door that corresponds to the number on the ticket. The bus fare is determined by the distance you travel.
4️⃣Uradome Coast ➡️ Tottori Station (Bus)
⚠️You also need to take a numbered ticket.
Eat and drink near Tottori Station. There are many places to visit near Tottori Station, including many Tottori specialties and Detective Conan merchandise.
🌃Return to Osaka from Tottori in the evening. The Tottori trip is over, and the Conan hometown tour is complete.✅
PS: I used the JR Pass Kansai 5-day Pass, which is more affordable for a round trip from Osaka Station to Tottori Station.

Urado Coast, Tottori, Japan | A Seaside Paradise for Nature and Leisure
💙Urado Coast is located in Iwami Town, on the eastern side of Tottori Prefecture. It boasts a stunning 15-kilometer coastline. The blue sea, lush pine trees, scattered islands, and traditional Japanese torii shrines create a picturesque scene reminiscent of a natural bonsai garden. 😍
🌊 The water here is exceptionally clear, with visibility reportedly reaching up to 25 meters! Can you imagine? It's as if the wonders of the underwater world are right before your eyes. On clear days, the sea displays various shades of blue, and schools of fish appear to be flying in the air, creating an unreal beauty. 🤩
🎈 There are plenty of fun activities along Urado Coast. You can take a sightseeing boat to admire the cliffs, caves, arches, and white sandy beaches up close, enjoying the gentle sea breeze on your face. 💨
🛥 You can also take an island-hopping cruise, like a moving observation deck. For those seeking more excitement, try fishing or kayaking. The feeling of being close to the sea while paddling is indescribable. The shallow waters and white sandy beaches are perfect for strolling or playing. 😉
🧊 If you get tired, there are cafes nearby offering stunning sea views. Step into one, order a cup of coffee, sit by the window, and enjoy the delicious coffee while taking in the beautiful scenery outside. It's truly relaxing. ☕
Urado Coast is a must-visit destination, whether you're traveling with a partner, on a family vacation, or having fun with friends. It offers a unique and wonderful experience. 💕

highly recommend stunningly beautiful
Really quiet and beautiful place. Great for a morning stroll at the beach or run. The water is a bit cold in March, but you can walk or swim the the shrine and explore the small rock paths around the beach. Very worth it for a relaxing time away from the crowds.

Pufu Coast
Pufu Coast, the first stop of the Tottori Tour. Take a boat trip and follow the seagulls along the way to the depths of the sea. The sound of the motor is bursting, the waves are tumbling, and the blue of the sea is becoming more and more charming.
There are 166 large and small islands scattered on the sea. The cliffs, strange rocks and caves are changing. This is a masterpiece of sea water and wind erosion, and a gift from nature. It is highly recommended to buy the cuttlefish ice cream at the boarding station. In this place, eat a bit of dark sweetness.
