#Upper Shing Mun Reservoir Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
An idyllic day…
Shing Mun Reservoir is between Tai Mo Shan and Needle Hills and is really easy to get to via public transport, just take the minibus no. 82 when you get to Tsuen Wan MTR Station. Its scenic and idyllic walks are really refreshing🥰. Definitely a place to go plus it has many BBQ sites which you can enjoy your feasts in the open air with friends and family.

Amazing hiking experience in Hong Kong
Hong Kong offers plenty of hiking tracks in all its regions. One of the exciting tracks to follow is Shing Mun forest, where you can get breathtaking views and sense the fresh nature. You can choose different directions to reach the area; follow the signage. It takes a few hours, but if you want to explore more, you can take the long trail.
I started the Shing Mun hiking from Tsuen Wan through Pineapple Dam and followed the signage. What surprised me was the beautiful, scattered waterfalls. It is a hidden gem that is rare to find in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Hiking 24th Station - Wilson Trail Sections 6, 7, 8
Wilson Trail Sections 6, 7, 8 (part) from Tai Po Road (Kowloon Reservoir) to Tai Po Tau (W061—099), official distance 19 kilometers, actually walked 24 kilometers, climbed 1700 meters, descended 1800 meters, took five hours and ten minutes.
Section 6 from Tai Po Road (Kowloon Reservoir) to Shing Mun Reservoir (W061—069), there are two climbing sections, W062—065, W066—067. At M120 (Figure 3 top left) it coincides with the MacLehose Trail, and at W066 (Figure 3 top right) it separates and climbs. Compared with MacLehose Section 6, both are from Kowloon Reservoir to Shing Mun Reservoir, but Wilson Trail is basically in the mountains, which is more interesting. Section 6 ends at the main dam of Shing Mun Reservoir (Figure 3 middle left, middle right), again coinciding with the MacLehose Trail, after the main dam (Figure 3 bottom right), it separates and turns left again.
Section 7 from Shing Mun Reservoir to Yuen Tun Ha (W070—088), can be roughly divided into three parts: The first part W070—077, along the bank of Shing Mun Reservoir, with beautiful scenery, you can enjoy the misty reservoir scenery. The second part W077—084, along Shing Mun Forest Road all the way up to Lead Mine Pass (Figure 14), where it intersects with the MacLehose Trail again. Lead Mine Pass has toilets and pavilions, it is a major rest and regrouping place on the way. The third part W084—088, is the downhill road, but the road condition is not good, be careful of spraining your foot.
Considering the convenience of exiting by car, Section 8 only walked from Yuen Tun Ha to Tai Po Tau (W089—099), which can also be divided into three parts, the first part W089—090, along the road through Sheung Wan Kiln Village and Sheung Wan Kiln Village, turn left uphill at Figure 16. Sheung Wan Kiln Village is quite interesting (Figure 17, 18). The second part is the mountain road (W091—092), with a bit of climbing. The third part (W092—099) is all road, first climbing, then a long downhill road, and the last section is flat.
Tai Po Tau Village (Figure 19, 20) has a bus stop, you can also walk to Tai Wo MTR Station, return to the city.
