Uplistsikhe is almost two hours drive from Tbilisi, 15 mins drive from the town of Gori. It was UNESCO heritage site. This ancient cave city was built 3000 years ago. It was rich in culture and history. Also the church there is still in used nowadays. It was very cold and windy so it was very hard to walk around and get into details. Gori is an important military fortress in the Middle Ages and is strategically important because it is located on the main road connecting eastern and western Georgia. Instead, we were more interested in the city of Uplistsikhe Cave Town, which was dug in a stone 10 kilometers away. Uplistsikhe Cave Town is situated on a rocky hill, most of which have no decoration, although some of the larger buildings have latticed vaulted ceilings and stone carvings resemble logs. At the top of this complex is a Christian church built of stone and brick. The structure inside is intricate, and many of the holes are connected to each other. Walking inside it seems to shuttle through the stone maze of the world. Even at noon in the hot sun, the cave is breezy, even if it is a broken wall, but the outline left by history is clearly visible, it is not difficult to imagine the glorious scene.
