[2025 Hwasun Attraction] Travel Guide for Unjusa Temple (Updated May)

How to get there: Best by car or bus from Sotae Station Attractions: Numerous stone pagodas and stone Buddhas Recommended food & restaurants: Unjusa Jihye Dang Unjusa, located in Hwasun, Jeollanam-do, is a temple that holds the legend that Doseon Guksa built a thousand Buddhas and thousand pagodas in one night. Unjusa is the only place in Korea where you can see such a variety of pagodas and temples in one place, and I think it is a must-visit course if you are planning a trip to Jeollanam-do. In particular, the reclining stone Buddha on the mountain is famous, and the view of Unjusa from the mountaintop is also very beautiful. We hope you enjoy a cup of tea and some leisure time at Jihye Dang, a teahouse located within Unjusa.

Unjusa is among my favorite temples in the South Jeollla province.It's the only temple to have really old (sec.VII~VIII) stone Buddha statues and pagodas. They are spread on the sourrounding mountains and you need to climb a little to see some of them.

Visiting the Ongosa Temple in Hwasun was an unforgettable spiritual experience. When I arrived at this Buddhist religious landmark, I was overwhelmed by the peace and tranquility of the place. The temple consisted of traditional wooden buildings and Buddhist structures that reflected beauty and deep tradition. My picnic started outside the temple, where I enjoyed walking through the gardens. The gardens surrounding the temple were filled with green trees and beautiful flowers, adding to the atmosphere of natural beauty.
