🇯🇵One of the prefectures in the Kyushu region of Japan--Oita Prefecture (Representative place Beppu)
🌟When it comes to Beppu, the first thing that comes to mind is hot springs. Beppu boasts the highest hot spring output in Japan, second only to Yellowstone Park in the United States, ranking second in the world. With over two thousand spring sources, it truly is the world's number one. The hot springs in Beppu vary in quality and characteristics, which is a major attraction for tourists from all over the world.
🙋♀️Beppu Hell, also known as Beppu Hells or Beppu Jigoku, is located in the Kannawa and Kamegawa areas of Beppu. The name derives from the mysterious and ever-changing hot springs found here.
1️⃣ Sea Hell: As blue as seawater but with a temperature as high as 98 degrees Celsius.
2️⃣ Blood Pond Hell: Resembles a blood pond from the netherworld's river of hell.
3️⃣ Tornado Hell: An intermittent spring that can spout hot water and mud up to 2 meters high, lasting up to 10 minutes each time.
4️⃣ White Pond Hell: Crystal clear and home to various exotic tropical fish.
5️⃣ Demon Mountain Hell: Through the steaming white mist, one can see the figures of many crocodiles.
6️⃣ Demon Stone Priest Hell: The hot mud from the depths continuously bubbles up like a monk's bald head.
7️⃣ Mountain Hell: Utilizes the geothermal heat of the hot springs to cultivate and breed precious animals and plants from around the world.
8️⃣ Cooking Pot Hell: Named 'kamado' (meaning kitchen) Hell because it uses geothermal heat to cook various ceremonial foods.
🔔 'Hell steaming' is a traditional cooking method that uses the steam from hot springs. Its history dates back to the Edo period (1603-1867) and is a healthy cooking method that significantly enhances the taste of food. Some hell hot springs sell specialty soft-boiled eggs and baked puddings, all cooked with the scorching steam of the hot springs.
🏁: Oita Prefecture has more than just Beppu hot springs♨️, it also boasts various natural landscapes, and more lesser-known/mysterious spots are waiting to be discovered. (Picture one: Sea Hell. Umi Jigoku is the starting point of the tour of hell.
There is a parking lot right in front of you, but it fills up quickly.
I was able to park at 9am, but by 10am there was no space and a line had formed.
The inside was surprisingly spacious, which was nice.
I think Umi Jigoku was also beautiful, with the blue shining through it.
There is also a souvenir shop on-site, so it's a great tourist spot!

Umi Jigoku
You can reach Umi Jigoku by taking bus number 2 or 5 from Beppu Station and getting off at the Umi Jigoku-mae stop. The bus ride takes about 15 minutes, and the entrance fee is 450 yen.
Umi Jigoku is the largest of Beppu's seven hell hot springs. It gets its name because the spring water from Mount Tsurumi has a deep blue color, resembling the ocean, and the water temperature reaches up to 98 degrees Celsius, making it a 'hell' hot spring!
Next to the pool, there is a path lined with a thousand torii gates. Climbing the stairs will lead you to the Hakuryu Inari Shrine, where you can offer a prayer. 🙏 On the other side of the pool, there is a small red pond. Finally, don't forget to soak your feet in the foot bath near the exit. ❤️

Beppu, shrouded in mist
⛩️ Beppu is located in Oita Prefecture, Japan, and is the second largest city in the prefecture. It is famous for its hot springs, with over 200 public hot springs throughout the city. The abundance and variety of spring sources are also among the world's most remarkable. These hot springs are known as 'hells' due to their appearance and temperature, which give a terrifying and spectacular impression. There are eight major 'hells' hot springs in the Beppu area, including the Sea Hell, Oniishi Bozu Hell, Mountain Hell, Shaven Head Hell, Demon Mountain Hell, White Pond Hell, Blood Pond Hell, and Tornado Hell. Each 'hell' has its own characteristics and temperature, with some of the springs reaching temperatures around 98 degrees Celsius, making them for viewing rather than bathing♨️. Among them, 'Sea Hell' is the largest of the eight springs.
⛩️ At the Beppu Hells, you can see the steamy mist of the hot springs every day. If you happen to visit on a foggy day, it feels as if you are in the midst of the TV series 'The Mist'. The view from above is even more dreamlike and fantastic.

Umi Jigoku
#thingstodo The Umi Jigoku is a relatively larger hot spring park compared to the others. Other than the amazingly huge pool of hot spring near the end of the park which fumes a lot of hot air, there’s also a nice compound showcasing how they grow tropical plants with water from the hot spring.
The park itself is very well maintained and has beautiful pathways. The gallery in the middle of the park is also pretty interesting, highlighting the history of the park and the Beppu’s culture around the spring.
This park is one of the 7 in the Jigoku group. Not all parks are part of this group. You can buy a group ticket to see all the parks or you can buy entrance to each park individually

Sea Hell is famous for its ice blue spring water, which seems to be a cool spring water, 👉 in fact it is a 98-degree high temperature boiling spring ♨️, very special, is a must-go photo hotspot in Beppu💟.
➡️ There are also greenhouse plants in the garden worth a visit, this issue is 👹 "Big Ghost Lotus" (October 23), we are also the first time to see, 👧🏼👦👶 children open their eyes🤩, also celebrate Halloween🎃. ➡️ There is a blood hell outside the greenhouse, famous for the red blood spring water, by the way to take a card, can save an attraction 🤭🤭
Finally, I went back to the souvenir shop to taste the hot spring eggs 🥚 Hell Steamed Pudding 🍮 cooked with Hell Fountain.

An Onsen That’s As Blue As The Ocean
Beppu is a city of tiled roofs, rising steam and historic hot spring resorts! With its numerous and diverse hot springs (different colored water, sizes and ways to use), Beppu has earned the reputation as a "hot spring paradise”. ♨️
Umi Jigoku or Sea Hell, was the first jigoku or hell that we visited. Formed after Mt. Tsurumaki erupted1300 years ago!! Of the many hells 地獄 of Beppu Japan’s “Jigoku Meguri” (Hell Tour), this is definitely one of the most beautiful. The hell is a pretty cobalt blue color, 98°C and over 200 meter deep, with very beautiful and dazzling appearance. An amazing natural phenomenon that you really have to see!
There are also souvenir shops and galleries throughout the hells. The foot bath was really nice and relaxing after a good walk. At Umi Jigoku exit, be sure to also stop by to try the small sweet buns steamed in the Jigoku Mushi (the hell steam) called Gokuraku Manju. Very tasty!
