Ma Wan 1868: A Vacation-Feel Destination
Today, I visited "Ma Wan 1868" ☀️
Ma Wan 1868 combines art, heritage, nature, dining, and historical culture. The site, transformed from old village houses, features colorful designs for each building, evoking the vibe of Italy's Cinque Terre and London's Notting Hill. Some buildings are adorned with large, distinctive murals, creating a vibrant cultural and artistic island community.
Located between Lantau Island and Tsing Yi, Ma Wan includes attractions such as the "Noah's Ark Theme Park," "Solar Tower," and the "Solar Village" resort. The newly established "Ma Wan 1868" serves as a cultural and artistic island community, blending art and history to create a colorful Ma Wan. Visitors can escape the city to enjoy fresh air, a tranquil environment, and recharge both body and mind.
The name "1868" originates from a historical event in 1868 when the Qing government established customs on Ma Wan to ensure maritime safety.
☆ The units feature various themes, including conservation concepts, handicrafts, galleries, tourism, art, experiential activities, and retail. The seaside restaurant is a perfect spot for a break and refreshments ☕️.
☆ The exhibition hall currently showcases works by local artist Leon Lollipop, featuring the popular character "Gloomie the Pensive Cat" 🐱—a must-see for cat lovers 📸.
☆ The "Tin Hau Temple," a century-old world heritage building, is the oldest temple on Ma Wan Island. The renovated temple retains its traditional two-hall architectural style, with green glazed tile roofs and a door plaque inscribed with "Tin Hau Temple."
Getting here is convenient from the city. Visitors can slow down, enjoy nature at the restaurant, and immerse themselves in the island's cultural atmosphere.
Why it's recommended: Perfect for family outings and pet-friendly Hong Kong travel.
