Trulli are traditional Apulian houses whose conical or pyramidal roofs (named from the Greek τρούλος, or "dome") are an outstanding example of stone building, a construction technique dating back to prehistory era and is still used today in Apulia. They are scattered throughout the Itria Valley as livestock pens or as storage for agricultural implements, but in the Alberobello area you will find clusters of such buildings, of which there are more than 1500 in the historical district centres alone, almost all in good condition Damaged condition. The trulli ancient buildings in the Alberobello area are outstanding representatives of spontaneous architectural structures attached to the urban landscape as an important historical value, and were listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996.
