[2025 Tromso Attraction] Travel Guide for Tromsø Bridge (Updated Jul)

#celebratewithtrip It was a challenge to walk during winter snowy & winds, but it is definitey worth it! We did have a storm coming in though but a beautiful walk. We walked to the Ice Cathedral and caught the bus to the town center. My absolutely favorite bridge on this world :) #norway #tromso

📍Small Dock Outside Clarion Collection Hotel (Photos 2, 3) A row of colorful houses paired with red boats creates a picturesque view. You can also enjoy a sauna session here—steam, jump into the sea, and repeat! 🤣 📍Tromsø Library and City Archive (Photos 4, 5) 🕖 Open Monday to Friday until 7 PM 🕞 Open Saturday and Sunday until 3:30 PM. Access outside operating hours requires a key card. 📍Pier am Folkparken (Photos 6-8) A 20-minute bus ride from the city center leads to this stunning spot! Stroll along the fjord, listen to the sound of waves and seagulls, and feel the ethereal chill of the Arctic breeze. 📍The Polar Museum (Photos 9-12) 🎫 NOK 120/person Learn about the lives and history of Vikings in the polar regions. The museum features specimens and fur displays of polar animals like polar bears, Arctic foxes, seals, and walruses—a great way to understand the Arctic Circle. 📍Tromsø Bridge ❌ After visiting the museum, you can cross the bridge to the other side, but taking a bus is recommended. The wind on the bridge is fierce, and passing cars kick up waves of dust—truly a tough experience! 🥲 📍Arctic Cathedral (Photo 13) We only took photos outside and didn’t go inside. 📍Fjellheisen Cable Car (Photos 1, 14) 🎫 Round trip NOK 545/person (same price via staff, vending machines, or official website) 🔹 Check Google before heading out to see if it’s open (it closes during strong winds). It’s best to queue for the cable car an hour before sunset! The crowd is massive, with about a quarter being Chinese tourists 🤣. Although we queued for half an hour and missed the sunset, the sky remains bright for a while after sunset, so you can still catch the blue hour. 🔹 On the mountain, you’ll hear mostly Mandarin—it’s hard to tell if you’re in Northeast China, Changbai Mountain, or Norway 🤣. 🔹 The viewing area has no railings, and it’s directly a cliff below—be cautious! On the other side of the city view is a slope; we wandered around until it got dark, took the cable car down, and luckily caught the bus (the next one would’ve been a 20-minute wait). Feeling fortunate! 💙 ⚠️ The wind on the mountain is extremely strong and cold—dress warmly! Hats and gloves are essential! 📍World’s Smallest Bar & Northernmost McDonald’s (Photos 15, 16) Located on the main street in the city center—worth a quick stop for photos. 📍Prestvannet Lake The bus from the airport to the city passes by this lake. A walk along the lakeside is a pleasant activity, though we didn’t have time to visit. In winter, ice cleats are recommended. 🦮 Dog Sledding & 🎆 Northern Lights Tours The temperature hovered above 0°C that week, melting all the snow on the ground. Additionally, the cloud cover was 100% every night 🙂, so we didn’t book any tours. If you plan to join, budget around NOK 1500 per person per activity.

📍 Itinerary Overview Tromso Cathedral Famous hot dog stand - Raketten Bar & Polse The most northern McDonald’s in the world 🚇 Transportation First make your way across Tromso bridge connecting the both sides of the city. It’s a stunning walk and allows for amazing views of the surrounding 360 degree mountain ranges which are snow capped during the autumn season. If you don’t wish to walk you can easily catch a metro bus to connect you in the other side. They run very 15 minutes or so. Once you’re in the cathedral be sure to sit down and the offered tables and pickup one of their several books detailing the story about how this cathedral. It will walk you through not only the purpose and the building of it but also the magnificent architectural design and you’ll hear it from the architect himself. After navigating through the cathedral make your way back on the other side of town by metro or on foot to Tromso famous hotdog stand. It’s a local favorite and the Reindeer is a MUST! There is seating behind the shack to enjoy your delicious hot dog. Additionally you can walk around and check out the many cute shops and even vintage second hand stores. Later in the evening if you’re up for something closer to home, why not try out the world’s most northern McDonald’s? It’s a busy place and seemingly local favorite.

The moment you step into Tromsø, you feel like you are in another world, with snow all over the sky and fairy-tale cottages. It was Christmas when we went there, and every house had sparkling lights and seven-pointed star lights, which was very dreamy. Walk across the Tromsø Fjord Bridge and overlook the two sides. It is the polar night, and the deep blue sea is even more mysterious and cold. Cross the bridge and you can see the Arctic Church. The exterior is very beautiful, especially the stained glass on the back of the church. As the saying goes, personal opinion is different. I personally don’t think it’s necessary to go in! The next morning we were ready to start our whale watching trip. On the way to the sea, the white snow showed the ultimate beauty of ice and snow, and with the bright moon, it was really beautiful.
