In Tibetan, Chang means eagle and harrier, and Zhu means dragon. Legend has it that there was an evil dragon before the temple was built, and the temple was built only after being subdued by Songtsan Gampo as a Dapeng, hence the name. It is said that famous figures in the history of Tibetan Buddhism, such as Padmasambhava and Milarepa, all practiced around Changzhu Temple. According to legend, in the 7th century, the temple was built under the auspices of Songtsen Gampo, the Tibetan Buddhist temple, and was later rebuilt and expanded by Pamo Zhuba Da Situ Juequ Jianshen. It is said that Princess Wencheng once stopped to practice in the temple and left her relics. During the Pazhu regime, Changzhu Temple underwent large-scale repairs and expansions. Changzhu Temple belonged to the Gelug Sect in its late period. The layout and form of the lower level of the main hall of Changzhu Temple is similar to that of the main hall of the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa. The temple originally preserved a large number of ancient murals and statues of Songtsan Gampo, Princess Wencheng, Princess Chizun of Nepal and Minister Lu Dongzan, with simple and vivid shapes. The pearl thangka of Changzhu Temple is the treasure of the town temple, and the painting is the statue of Muni Epine in Jianqi (the resting picture of Guanyin Bodhisattva). The whole thangka is 2 meters long and 1.2 meters wide, with a total consumption of 26 taels of pearls (29026 pieces in total), 1 diamond, 2 rubies, 1 sapphire, 0.55 taels of amethyst, 0.91 taels of turquoise (185 pieces in total), Coral 4.1 taels (1997 pieces), 15.5 grams of gold. Every day, many believers and tourists come to watch and worship.
