Paris is currently in the spotlight for the Olympic Games being held there in 2024. There are so many iconic sights to see and things to do in this amazing city! On my recent trip to Paris, I decided to talk a walk around the city along the Seine River. You can find many iconic landmarks along the river and it’s an enjoyable place to take a stroll! Some of the things I saw include the Notre Dame Cathedral, Eiffel Tower, famous bridges and more. #EuropeanTravel How to get there: 6 Parvis Notre-Dame Place Jean-Paul II, 75004 Paris France Attraction: Notre Dame Cathedral You need to purchase a separate ticket to climb the bell tower observation deck. The view of Paris from the Notre Dame Cathedral observation deck is different from that from the Eiffel Tower or the Arc de Triomphe, and it is magnificent! However, it is worth the effort of climbing 400 stairs.🙈 The observation deck and the interior of the cathedral are currently closed to the public due to a fire. Notre-Dame de Paris , meaning "Our Lady of Paris", referred to simply as Notre-Dame, is a medieval Catholic cathedral on the Île de la Cité (an island in the Seine River), in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. The cathedral, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, is considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture. Several of its attributes set it apart from the earlier Romanesque style, particularly its pioneering use of the rib vault and flying buttress, its enormous and colourful rose windows, and the naturalism and abundance of its sculptural decoration. Notre Dame also stands out for its musical components, notably its three pipe organs (one of which is historic) and its immense church bells. Before the 2019 fire, approximately 12 million people visited Notre-Dame annually, making it the most visited monument in Paris.[8] The cathedral has long been renowned for its Lent sermons, a tradition founded in the 1830s by the Dominican Jean-Baptiste Henri Lacordaire. In recent years, these sermons have increasingly often been given by leading public figures or government-employed academics. Over time, the cathedral has gradually been stripped of many of its original decorations and artworks. However, the cathedral still contains several noteworthy examples of Gothic, Baroque, and 19th-century sculptures, a number of 17th- and early 18th-century altarpieces, and some of the most important relics in Christendom – including the Crown of Thorns, a sliver of the true cross and a nail from the true cross. The 1831 publication of Victor Hugo's novel Notre-Dame de Paris (known in English as The Hunchback of Notre-Dame) inspired popular interest in the cathedral, which led to a major restoration project between 1844 and 1864, supervised by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. On August 26,1944, the Liberation of Paris from German occupation was celebrated in Notre-Dame with the singing of the Magnificat. On 15 April 2019, while Notre-Dame was undergoing renovation and restoration, its roof caught fire and burned for about 15 hours. The cathedral sustained serious damage as a result. We visited the magnificent #notre-dame Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. It is now open to the public and still remains free to enter. Do check the closing time as when we visited we found out that it closes at 1820 hrs or 0620 PM. It is located on the Il de la cite island in the #seineriver and there are lots of pretty picnic spots on the edges of the island.
