Phuket Old Town's Portuguese-style buildings with a history of over a hundred years are still preserved, making it a popular check-in spot. The tourism industry is booming, and the new generation of Thais are gradually returning to start businesses. The old town is the most popular, and even the Thai princess has visited. Torry's Ice Cream Boutique, a handmade ice cream shop that claims to use only natural ingredients without additives, is one of them.
The owner, Torry, is a native of Phuket. The culture of Phuket is deeply influenced by Fujian, Malaysia and other countries, forming a unique style. The owner, who loves ice cream, came back from Italy after learning the craft. He hopes that people will get to know Phuket’s traditional desserts again, so there are many Thai-flavored ice creams in the store, and it is claimed that only natural ingredients are used without additives.
The store is located on Soi Rommani, about three minutes' walk from Thalang Road in Weekend Market. Turn into Soi Rommani and walk a short distance until you reach the store on the right. It's an old mansion with a pink exterior, and there are long queues inside and outside the store, so it should be easy to find.
At first glance, the store's decoration is in a nostalgic Western style, and the decorations have a strong flavor of Western antiques. However, the chairs are all made of marble. It is not easy to move them because they are genuine and super heavy! There is a hostel upstairs in the store, which is surprisingly Chinese in style. The combination of Chinese and Western styles makes it a great place to take photos and check in!
Dragon Fruit Bowl (seasonal, 145 baht)
The dish is served in a pitaya container and contains three flavours of sorbet: Phuket’s own pineapple, strawberry lemon, and lychee rose, which are refreshing and cooling.
A-Pong (95 Baht)
One of the restaurant’s signature dishes, A-Pong is actually a traditional dessert, coconut crispy biscuits อาโป๊ง (Cantonese transliteration: 阿绑定), which can be found everywhere on the streets of Phuket. It is estimated that it was introduced from Teochew or Fujian. The biscuits contain shredded coconut and sesame seeds, and taste like scallion pancakes. They are delicious when eaten with ice cream.
O-Aew (95 Baht)
O-Aew is one of the shop’s signature dishes and is also a traditional dessert in Phuket. It is shaved ice, jelly, jelly and red beans, similar to grass jelly ice. โอ๋เอ๋ว (Cantonese transliteration: 哦 aiw), which is also known as 薁荛 in Minnan dialect.
Phuket Treasure (145 Baht)
This Phuket Treasure is honey ice cream topped with eight kinds of traditional Phuket cakes. It looks like Chinese cakes no matter how you look at it. Well, these cakes taste a bit similar to what you have eaten, but not exactly the same ~ It feels pretty good to eat them with ice cream!
