Tongjue Temple | Taicang
🧧 Find a place of tranquility and serenity!
I was very lucky to have the opportunity to visit the ancient, Zen, and artistic Tongjue Temple in Taicang with a friend at the end of the year!
🧧 Recommended reasons:
It was built during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty, nearly 600 years ago.
Legend has it that Emperor Jianwen once took refuge here and planted three ginkgo trees (one of which still exists). The name "Tongjue Temple" was given by Emperor Jianwen based on the "Huangjue Temple" where his grandfather Zhu Yuanzhang became a monk!
It covers an area of 66 mu! It consists of the mountain gate, bell tower, drum tower, Hall of Heavenly Kings, Great Compassion Pavilion, Ten Thousand Buddhas Building, Sutra Library, Mahavira Hall, pagoda, and other halls!
🧧 Special recommendation:
The vegetarian food at "Dahui Shuwu" is delicious! And the environment is elegant! (CNY 30 per person)
"Tea Break Cottage" is a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee and some rare leisure time in such an ancient and quiet courtyard!
There is also a library with a rich collection of books!
The temple also offers accommodation, so you can stay for a few days and relax!
🧧 If you also like this tranquility and Zen, why not invite your friends or family to visit "Tongjue Temple"! Just like the master's words "Welcome home!" and "Welcome to come often!" are really kind!
