It was an impromptu trip to Japan and I did not time my trip to catch the Sakura bloom but I was still lucky enough to encounter many Sakura trees in their full bloom. I would recommend visiting cities outside of Tokyo and the less-touristy parks of Tokyo for a more relaxing Hanami experience. Makes it easier for you to take nice photos without having to avoid the crowds. Japanese love to take their pet dogs out for photoshoots during this period too so do remember to keep a lookout for these cute dogs while you are strolling in the parks!
