✈️ Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza (TIA), also known as Rinas Airport, is Albania's primary international gateway.
☀️ We arrived early, and staying in the city centre is highly recommended for convenience and easy access to main attractions. Most of the popular tourist attractions are located within walking distance.
😍 Tirana is surprisingly a beautiful city, full of vibrant energy and colorful charm. The streets are lined with lively cafes, striking murals, and a mix of architectural styles that reflect its complex history.
Green spaces like the Grand Park and the artificial lake offer peaceful escapes from the urban bustle, making Tirana not just interesting, but genuinely pleasant to explore.
🥘 I had the chance to sample the local cuisine, which features a mix of Albanian, Greek, Italian, English, and Turkish influences. However, during my walk, I noticed that Asian food options were quite limited.
📍We were able to visit several 🆓 notable landmarks and sights in a single day, even with a 3.5-year-old toddler in tow.

I would like to take this opportunity to review Tirana Airport, which is the only international airport in the country.
This airport is about 30 minutes from the city center. You can travel from Tirana city center by bus (budget) or taxi.
When you arrive here, one thing you definitely won't see at this airport is the airplane landing strip because there is none. 555 When you pass through immigration, you will see the baggage claim belt. As far as I can remember, there are 3 belts, shared by many flights at the same time, and it takes a very long time for the luggage to be released.
When you come out to the arrivals hall (which is very small), if you want to buy a SIM card, you can buy it at the airport. There are 2 networks to choose from: Vodafone and One. The price of both packages is the same. As far as I can remember, there are 25 Euros and 35 Euros. If you buy a SIM card package for tourists in the city, it is the same price.
For currency exchange, there is an exchange counter. But... Albania has its own currency called Lek, but most shops accept Euros. Euro coins are also accepted. The exchange rate on the day I went was 1€=100Lek.
Arriving at the departure (return) I recommend not arriving at this airport more than several hours in advance. Arriving at least 2 hours in advance is enough because the airport has very few check-in counters and they open shortly before the flight. Also, there are few places to wait. You have to sit in a coffee shop.
After passing through immigration, you will see about 2 duty-free shops, which have enough things to shop for.
I recently traveled through Tirana International Airport in Albania, and it was a surprisingly smooth experience. ✈️ The airport is located just 17 kilometers northwest of Tirana, making it very convenient for travelers heading into the city. There is no entrance fee, of course, and navigating through the airport was straightforward and hassle-free.
The facilities are modern and clean, with plenty of seating areas and charging stations. I appreciated the variety of dining options, from quick snacks to more substantial meals. There are also some nice duty-free shops where you can pick up last-minute souvenirs or gifts. 🛍️
Getting from the airport to the city center is easy, with several transportation options available, including taxis and a regular shuttle bus service. Nearby attractions include the stunning Dajti Ekspres cable car ride, which offers breathtaking views of Tirana and its surroundings. You can also visit Skanderbeg Square and the National History Museum for a dose of culture and history.
Overall, Tirana International Airport offers a great start to exploring Albania. #TiranaAirport #TravelAlbania #SmoothTravel #ExploreTirana ✈️🇦🇱

Convenient and nice airport hotel
The Best Western at Tirana Airport is a stone's throw away from the airport. Getting there from the airport is a 5 min walk away. I didn't inquire but it appears they also have a free shuttle service in case you have a lot of bags. For me, it was great as my flight was an very early morning one so I could save a lot of time.
The rooms are very spacious and new enough. I found that the toilets were actually very big. The bed was quite comfortable and breakfast was included. If you're leaving early like me, they'll prepare a box for you. For other dining, there's also a restaurant on site, otherwise you can head back to the airport for some other dining options.
The staff were also warm, welcoming and very eager to help you with anything you may need. I definitely recommend this hotel especially if you need to be at the airport early or are coming from a late night flight.

Surprisingly, it's possible to sleep outdoors at Tirana Airport
Address: Tirana Airport

Rating:
On the landside, there is Murili Cafe and a convenience store called Conard. There is also a Mon Cheri cafe in the center near the main entrance of the airport (not used). Both are more expensive than in the city. Outside the airport building, the KFC and cafe in front of the parking lot are more reasonable. You can lie down on the bench in front of the toilet on the Murili Cafe side.
