National 5AAAAA scenic spot in China 🗼
#chinatrip
Located approximately 5 km away from the Suzhou city centre, Tiger Hill has been recognised as National 5AAAAA scenic spot and renowned with its historical legendary and ancient building with over 2500 years old.
Tiger Hill pagoda is especially eye-catching in the area as the structure looks similar to the Pisa Tower in Italy. In fact, the pagoda that leaning on the hill is much more taller than Pisa Tower and in different season, there will different artistic flowers blossom every where making it an instagrammable place for everyone to take picture with.
Personally, I would recommend to spend at least 1-2 hours to stroll around. If you come in the early morning, there will be lesser crowds where you can enjoy the chill weather with tranquil environment.

Best time to visit it is early morning when less people going there. It might be crowded on holidays.
Prepare comfortable shoes to climb to the top to see the oldest Pagoda with a history of over 2,500 years. Name in Chinese is Huqiu Pagoda.
Tiger Hill is perhaps the highest point in Suzhou. It offers a clear view of Suzhou and surroundings.

Crouching Tiger-Tiger Hill and Yunyan Pagoda
Tiger Hill is an absolutely stunning location. With beautiful gardens and hours of walking paths, this is an ideal location for taking beautiful photos and enjoying the serene environment.
History of Tiger Hill: It is said that three days after King He Lu died in 496BC a white tiger appeared on the hill to guard the dead king’s body. Another reason for the name comes from the mountain resembling a crouching tiger. Tiger Hill originally called the “Hill Emerging from the Sea” has an elevation of over 30m and covers roughly 3.5acres. Tiger Hill is truly an enduring symbol of ancient Suzhou and has
What can you see at Tiger Hill:
Tiger Hill Pagoda/Yunyan Pagoda: Known as the leaning tower this imposing 47m pagoda is indeed a site to behold. The top and the bottom of the tower today now vary by 2.32 metres. Construction on the pagoda was completed in 961 during the Song Dynasty. After climbing to the top of Tiger Hill it is indeed an amazing site to behold.
Wangjing Villa: A beautiful bonsai tree garden with some 500 high-end bonsai trees, many of which were awarded prizes in prestigious bonsai competitions.
LuYu Well: Lu Yu wrote the first book on tea entitled “The Treatise of Tea”. The famous author lived on Tiger Hill and dug a well and declared the water the third best in China. As a result of his efforts tea growing and consumption became an important part of peoples life’s in Suzhou.
Sword Pool: Legend says that some 3000 swords were buried beneath the rectangular pond and that King He Lu himself is said to be buried next to the lake wall.

Nice hill to explore nature in Suzhou
Getting There - Take bus 32/146 or line 3 to Huqiu Beimen Station
There are many attractions in Tiger Hill, depending on what you want to explore.
🛕The famous Tiger Hill Pagoda - standing on the hill’s summit. This is the oldest pagoda in the vicinity of Suzhou. It’s considered as China’s Leaning tower as the tower stands slantedly. This tower has been a symbol of Suzhou for years.
We enjoyed walkinf around this area, admiring the Chinese garden landscape. There is a bonsai collection at Wanjing Villa too.
There’s a famous Sword Testing Stone with its interesting story surrounding King He Lu. It’s believed that there are many swords burried beneath the Sword Pond.

With its beautiful scenery and long history, Tiger Hill is commonly referred to as the "No.1" attraction of the Wuzhong district. Tiger Hill is renowned for its pagoda and its Sword Pond. The pagoda is known as the "Leaning Tower of Pisa" of the east, and the four Chinese characters by the sword pool are said to have been written by calligrapher Yan Zhenqing. In recent years, flower and temple fairs have been held at Tiger Hill.

The Huqiu Mountain Scenic Area has a long history of more than 2,500 years. It is known as the “first mountain in Wuzhong”. The poet Su Dongpo of the Song Dynasty once wrote the famous saying “When you don’t visit Huqiu Mountain in Suzhou, it’s a pity!” Tiger Hill, in Suzhou, is not only a scenic spot, but also a cultural landmark of the city. Tiger Hill is not very high, so it is not particularly tiring to go up. Denghuqiu mountain is not high. It is sometimes lively, sometimes quiet, with lush branches that are accompanied by the sound of flowing water.
There are a lot of previous historical stories about the place, and you can ask any of the guides to tell you about them. There is a small square on the top of Huqiu, and there is a Tiger Hill Tower in the middle. It is the first leaning tower in China and the symbol of Suzhou. I didn't know it was oblique at the time. I wanted my picture to look symmetrical, but I found that it was not possible. Later, I realized that the tower was a little tilted.

Trip to Suzhou, China 🇨🇳
It was my second time to Suzhou, China with family. We began our journey in Suzhou at The Humble Administrator’s Garden, the largest and most famous classical garden in the city. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a mix of history and artistry in their photographs 🙌🙌🙌
📍178 Northeast Street, Gusu District, Suzhou, Jiangsu, China
We also explored Tiger Hill, a must-visit for both its historical significance and its natural beauty. The highlight here is the leaning Yunyan Pagoda, which looks stunning against the backdrop of the hill’s verdant scenery. We took our time climbing to the top, stopping at picturesque spots like Sword Pond and ancient bonsai gardens 🌺 Sunset was the perfect time to visit, as the golden light bathed the hill in a warm glow. I would recommend this site to anyone wanting dramatic yet serene photography opportunities 📸

We especially loved capturing the reflections of stone bridges and red lanterns on the water. Late afternoon was the ideal time for us, as the soft light and lively atmosphere added to the street’s charm. I would highly recommend taking a boat 🛶 ride along the canal for unique perspectives.

The museum’s modern design beautifully complements its traditional Chinese garden 🪴 elements, creating an exceptional setting for photography 📸 We explored its unique interior, capturing light streaming through geometric windows and shadows dancing on sleek walls. Morning ⛅️ was the best time for us to visit, as the natural light highlighted the museum’s minimalist elegance. TranquilJourneys
The most charming features of Tiger Hill are the pool and the pagoda.
There are two famous attractions on Tiger Hill: the Tiger Hill Pagoda and the Sword Pool.
1⃣️There are three reasons why it is called the Sword Pool. First, if you look at the pool from above, it looks like a sword lying flat. Second, it is said that 3,000 swords, including the Bian Zhu and Fish Intestine swords, were buried with King Helu of Wu, hence the name. Third, it is said that Emperor Qin Shi Huang and Sun Quan both came here to dig for swords, and the Sword Pool was formed by their digging.
In fact, the Sword Pool is naturally formed. The Sword Pool is the most mysterious place on Tiger Hill. It is said that the entrance to the tomb of King Helu of Wu is here. Looking north from the Thousand People Stone, there is a round hole next to the "Another World" gate with the words "Tiger Hill Sword Pool" carved on it. The words are thick and powerful, and were originally written by Yan Jun, the only son of the great Tang calligrapher Yan Zhenqing. Inside the round hole, the words "Wind Valley Cloud Spring" are carved on the stone wall. The writing is elegant and is said to have been written by Mi Fu, one of the four great calligraphers of the Song Dynasty. These four words completely summarize the scenery here. It means that if you stand here, you can hear the wind, see the rocks, look up at the clouds, and look down at the flowing spring. On the left wall of the cliff are the words "Sword Pool," said to have been written by the great calligrapher Wang Xizhi.
2⃣️The Tiger Hill Pagoda, also known as the Yunyan Temple Pagoda, is said to have been built by King Fuchai of Wu to bury his father (Helu) here. Three days after the burial, a white tiger was seen crouching on top of the hill, hence the name Tiger Hill.
The Tiger Hill Pagoda is a famous ancient pagoda from the Song Dynasty. It was first built in 601 AD (the first year of the Renshou period of Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty) as a wooden pagoda, which was later destroyed. The existing Tiger Hill Pagoda was built in 959 AD (the sixth year of the Xiande period of the Later Zhou Dynasty) and completed in 961 AD (the second year of the Jianlong period of the Northern Song Dynasty), more than 200 years before the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. Since the Ming Dynasty, due to the foundation, the Tiger Hill Pagoda has tilted to the northwest, with the center of the top of the pagoda 2.3 meters off from the center of the bottom, with a tilt of 2°40'. It is known as the "Oriental Leaning Tower of Pisa."
In 1956, the Suzhou Municipal Government invited ancient architecture experts to use the iron hoop grouting method to reinforce and repair the pagoda, and finally preserved this ancient pagoda.

Autumn in Suzhou is different from the north.

Jiangsu, Suzhou, Tiger Hill 1/3.
Tiger Hill is a cultural treasure that perfectly combines cultural resources and natural landscapes, integrating mountains, rivers, and history. Legend has it that a white tiger was seen crouching on the hill three days after the burial, hence the name. Tiger Hill covers an area of just over 300 mu (20 hectares) and is only 30 meters high, but it has the style of "the best hill in Jiangnan," with its steep cliffs and magnificent scenery. It is famous for its three wonders, nine attractions, and eighteen scenic spots. The most famous are the Yunyan Temple Pagoda and the Sword Pond. The towering Yunyan Temple Pagoda is over 1,000 years old and is the second leaning tower in the world. It is ancient and majestic and has long been a symbol of ancient Suzhou.

My third time in Suzhou, and I had a new experience.
Suzhou Museum
Admiring the cultural relics, the aesthetic of traditional oriental culture really transcends time and space and shocks your soul. Suddenly, my heart calmed down. ♥
Zhong Wang Fu
A tree over 3,000 years old, with only half of its trunk left, is still full of fruit and green and vibrant. Think about it, we only live for a few decades.
A large courtyard with several entrances, bright and open inside, with sunlight streaming in, adding a lot of warmth.
The structure of ancient Chinese architecture is integrated with nature, allowing people to shelter from the wind and rain without being too far from nature. Living in such a large house is really comfortable, and every corner is a view.
Pingjiang Road
It's really a long road. Walking on the stone road at night is quiet and lively.
Hanshan Temple
Every time I come here, I feel a sense of spiritual purification. Walking inside is very comfortable. Now I know that you can also copy Buddhist scriptures inside. I really want to experience it next time as a new way of traveling and spiritual healing. After eating vegetarian noodles here at noon, I feel transparent and my stomach is comfortable.
Tiger Hill
This time I finally went to the legendary Tiger Hill. The tower is really slanted. It's called Yunyan Temple Tower. I took a car around the mountain. The mountain is not high, but the place is still very large, with beautiful scenery. The subway goes directly there. I had a good experience and took many beautiful photos.
I like this kind of leisurely feeling, not having to rush to any place. It's good to be with the one you love, no matter where you are, and to feel and experience it carefully.

Su Dongpo was right! Tiger Hill is the best place to enjoy the fall foliage.
As the saying goes, "If you visit Suzhou without visiting Tiger Hill, you have missed out." What makes Tiger Hill so special? The stunning fall colors and rich history will make you fall in love with this place.
🎨 Fall Colors:
The base color is yellow, with shades of orange, bright yellow, and dark yellow interwoven. Red is the highlight, with fiery red, bright red, and orange-red leaves. Add a touch of green, and you have a colorful palette that even the best painters would struggle to replicate.
🏛️ Cultural Attractions:
🌟 Tiger Hill Pagoda:
Also known as "Yunyan Temple Pagoda," it stands atop Tiger Hill. Built during the Later Zhou Dynasty of the Five Dynasties period and completed in the second year of the Jianlong era of the Northern Song Dynasty, it has a history of over a thousand years. Its most remarkable feature is its tilt, earning it the title of China's most famous leaning tower and the second most tilted ancient leaning tower in the world, with a history older than the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
🌟 Broken Beam Hall:
As the name suggests, the main beam is not a straight piece of wood but is supported by two wooden beams using the lever principle, distributing the weight to the brackets. The hall's exterior is simple, but its unique feature is that no metal parts were used in its construction. Built during the Yuan Dynasty, it remains intact to this day, a testament to its durability, earning it the nickname "the thousand-year-old hall."
🌟 Yung Tsui Villa:
Unlike traditional Jiangnan classical gardens, Yung Tsui Villa is built along the slopes of Tiger Hill, making it the only waterless garden in Suzhou. Its unique layout sets it apart from other gardens.
🌟 Shengong Lecture Platform:
In ancient times, a high monk traveled here to preach to his followers. Legend has it that a stone understood the teachings, leaped up, and nodded to the monk as if to say, "I understand."
🌟 Sword Pond:
Legend has it that King Helu of Wu was buried at Tiger Hill after being injured in the Wu-Yue War. The Sword Pond is said to contain over 3,000 legendary swords collected by Helu throughout his life. Even Qin Shi Huang and Sun Quan led troops to dig for them, but they never found them.
🌟 With over 2,500 years of history, Tiger Hill has been developed over the centuries and is home to countless historical stories, such as the Hanhanspring and the Thousand People Stone.

Tiger Hill Scenic Area.
Tiger Hill, a scenic area with a history of over 2,500 years, attracts countless tourists with its unique natural scenery and profound cultural heritage. The following is a detailed introduction to Tiger Hill and a recommended itinerary:
Introduction to Tiger Hill
Name Origin: Tiger Hill was originally called Haiyong Mountain. In ancient times, this area was a vast ocean with scattered islands. Among them, Tiger Hill was the smallest. With the ebb and flow of the tide, Tiger Hill would appear and disappear, hence the name "Haiyong Mountain" (meaning "Sea Surge Mountain"). In 496 BC, King He Lu of Wu died and was buried here. Legend has it that three days after his burial, a white tiger was found sitting on his tomb. Therefore, the name was changed to "Tiger Hill". Another explanation is that the mountain resembles a crouching tiger.
Historical Status: Tiger Hill is known as the "Number One Scenic Spot in Wu", and is an outstanding representative of Suzhou gardens. The great Song Dynasty poet Su Dongpo once exclaimed, "To visit Suzhou without seeing Tiger Hill is a great regret!"
Main Attractions
Haiyong Bridge: The gateway to Tiger Hill Scenic Area, spanning the moat and connecting the outside world with this ancient and mysterious land.
Broken Beam Hall: The second gate of Tiger Hill, built during the Yuan Dynasty. The entire hall is constructed without any metal reinforcements, relying solely on interlocking brackets. It is said to be able to stand for a thousand years, showcasing the wisdom of ancient architects.
Yongscui Villa: A waterless garden built on a hillside, with a terraced layout. The pavilions and towers are scattered throughout the garden, creating a serene and elegant environment.
憨憨 Spring: A relic from the Liang Dynasty. Legend has it that the monk Hanhan dug this spring himself while searching for water. The spring water is clear and sweet.
Sword Testing Stone: One of the Eighteen Views of Tiger Hill. Legend has it that it was split by King He Lu of Wu to test his sword. In reality, it is a crack formed by weathering. The stone is steeped in historical legend.
Zhenniang Tomb: Commemorates Zhenniang, a famous courtesan of Suzhou during the Tang Dynasty. She died to preserve her chastity and is known as the "Fragrant Soul". The stone tablet in front of her tomb is inscribed with the words "Ancient Zhenniang Tomb".
Thousand People Stone: Named after the thousands of people who once listened to a monk's sermon here. It is associated with the saying, "Shenggong preached, and the stubborn stone nodded."
Two Immortals Pavilion: Built during the Song Dynasty. The pavilion contains two stone tablets, each carved with an image of either Chen Tuan or Lü Dongbin. The carvings are exquisite.
Sword Pool: One of the most famous attractions in Tiger Hill. Legend has it that the tomb gate of King He Lu of Wu is hidden beneath the pool. The pool water is clear as a mirror, and the surrounding stone walls are steep, creating a serene and mysterious atmosphere.
Tiger Hill Pagoda (Yunyan Temple Pagoda): The landmark of Tiger Hill, the second leaning tower in the world. Construction began in 959 during the Later Zhou Dynasty of the Five Dynasties period. It has stood for over a thousand years despite weathering countless storms. The murals inside the pagoda are brightly colored, showcasing the charm of ancient art.
