How are you?
Changzhou | Inside the city, outside the dust • Wonderful beyond words
| Inside the city, outside the dust • Wonderful beyond words. • Visit the pure land of Buddhism for a unique 'wonderful' event, wonderful indeed!
• Just in time for Friday, at 20:00, the light show at the Tianning Temple Pagoda begins, with colorful and dazzling lights, truly spectacular! The light show lasts about half an hour, so you can find a good spot in advance, sit down, and enjoy it slowly.
• Next to the pagoda is a small market, although not large, it has a wide variety of items. At the entrance, staff distribute fans, and you can scan a QR code to follow the scenic spot's official account to receive one, very convenient.
• On the right side of the market, there's a lady selling bracelets who is super nice. All the bead chains are handmade by her, very beautiful. I bought one and she gave me another one for free. 💗
Outside the courtyard wall is a row of snack streets. There's a lady selling cold noodles, which are super delicious, with a very special sauce! There's also a small shop selling Qingbuliang, equally delicious and affordable.
When you're feeling upset, come out for a walk and experience the cultural charm of Changzhou. 🫠

Southeast's First Forest - Tianning Temple
Tianning Temple is located at No. 636 Yanling Middle Road, Tianning District, Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province.
Tianning Temple was first built during the Zhenguan and Yonghui periods of the Tang Dynasty, initially named Guangfu Temple. In the first year of the Zhenghe period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1111 AD), it was renamed to its current name. The temple complex is grand, with numerous buildings, covering an area of 103 acres and a construction area of 41,856 square meters. Emperor Qianlong visited Tianning Temple three times during his southern tours and inscribed the plaque 'Dragon City Elephant Teaching' with his imperial brush.
Currently, the temple preserves and collects cultural relics such as a sundial made by Zhang Zuonan, the magistrate of Yanghu County, in the 25th year of the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty (1820 AD), with two pieces standing and lying; stone carvings of 500 Arhats, first carved in the third year of the Jiaqing period (1798 AD); a stone scripture pillar inscribed with the full text of the Diamond Sutra by the famous Ming Dynasty calligrapher and painter Zou Zhilin; a bronze seated statue of Shakyamuni Buddha from the Tang Dynasty; a ten-faced Guanyin statue made of camphor wood from the Song Dynasty; and collections of a natural crystal Buddha statue and a stone Buddha statue from the Tang Dynasty, all of which are rare treasures.
Tianning Temple, along with Jinshan Temple in Zhenjiang, Gaomin Temple in Yangzhou, and Tiantong Temple in Ningbo, is known as one of the four major Zen temples in China. Tianning Zen Temple is also praised as the 'First Forest in the Southeast' for its 'majestic and magnificent halls, tall and solemn Buddha statues, generations of famous monks, and renowned Dharma assemblies'.
In 1982, Tianning Temple was listed as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit by the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government.
In 1983, Tianning Temple was designated as a key Buddhist temple in the Han Chinese region by the State Council of the People's Republic of China.
In 2002, Tianning Temple was rated as a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

⏳Travel Time: 2024.6.10-12
🗓Itinerary:
6.10 Tianning Zen Temple--Hongmei Park--Qingguo Lane
6.11 Tianning Pagoda Climbing--Dongpo Garden--Nanda Street Grand Canal
6.12 Cultural Square, Civic Square
📆【Travel Guide】
Changzhou has cultural and tourism activities. With a high-speed rail ticket, hotel orders in Changzhou, etc., you can take Changzhou's buses and subways for free.
To take the Changzhou subway, you need to download the Changzhou Subway APP. After successful verification, you can get free ride rights and redeem coupons in the software. After scanning the code to exit the station, the fare will be directly deducted.
❗The departure frequency of Changzhou subway is not high, about one train every 8 minutes. Sometimes, if you just miss a train, you have to wait for several minutes.
【Tianning Zen Temple】is currently under renovation, and some areas are closed. However, it can be visited for free recently, and the main buildings are still open for normal visits.
I personally like the appearance of Tianning Pagoda and the white stairs below it. It looks very nice.
You need to buy a ticket to enter Tianning Pagoda, 50 yuan, half price for students.
There is an elevator inside the pagoda, but the elevator only goes to the mezzanine. You still need to climb the stairs to visit. The view from the upper floors of the pagoda is quite good. You can see the buildings of Tianning Zen Temple and the cityscape of Changzhou.
There is a glazed hall on the upper floors that looks pretty. Other open floors display content that might interest friends who are more into Buddhism. I mainly enjoyed the view from the outside corridors.
🌺Next to Tianning Zen Temple is 【Hongmei Park】. The park is quite large with many scenic spots. You can wander around inside, and there are many citizens and tourists in the park.
From the park, you can also see Tianning Pagoda. At night, both the park and the pagoda are lit up, and the night view is beautiful. You can also take pictures of the pagoda's reflection on the lake in the park.
🏮After leaving the park, walk to 【Qingguo Lane】. Qingguo Lane is quite lively at night. The red lanterns at the entrance are beautiful. It seems to be a main street inside, with fewer people on the side branches. The things sold here seem to be more expensive than outside. It's still nice to take a simple stroll along the road.
【Dongpo Garden】is not large. There is a bridge connecting to a small island. When I went, the buildings on the island were not open. I just took a simple stroll in the garden and on the island. There is also a temple next to Dongpo Garden.
Take the subway from Dongpo Garden to 【Nanda Street】. It feels like the prosperity there is no longer what it used to be. Next to it is the 【Grand Canal】, which you can take a look at. There are Changzhou pastry shops near Nanda Street. You can check in and buy some pastries.
🎶The area around Changzhou's 【Cultural Square】 and 【Civic Square】 is more modern. The architecture of Cultural Square is very cool. There are wild band performances at night. When I went at noon, there were not many people.
I personally like Tianning Zen Temple, Hongmei Park, and Cultural Square. Qingguo Lane is also worth a visit. There is also a Dinosaur Park in Changzhou that I would like to visit in the future.

One-day tour in Changzhou
Date: 2024.07.27
Weather: Cloudy ☁️, with a gentle breeze
Changzhou Museum: Highly recommended, extremely beautiful! Learning from the lesson of not visiting the museum in Zhenjiang yesterday, today we came to the museum first, and it was a pleasant surprise.
The first floor has three special exhibitions: Trilobites in the Ocean (you can get a stamp), Austrian Silverware, and Changzhou's great painter Xie Zhiliu. Additionally, there is a cultural and creative area on the first floor where you can also get a stamp.
The second floor is the permanent exhibition: Changzhou from ancient times to the present. The most impressive part is the many beautiful bricks with various patterns, and the exquisite bamboo carvings of Changzhou.
The third floor has three exhibitions: Children's Natural History Exhibition (highly recommended for those with kids to go directly to the third floor), with numerous specimen models ranging from mammals to insects, fish, wetlands, and forests. The models are lifelike, the specimens are beautiful, and the scenery is realistic; the Redwood Furniture Exhibition, which gives off a vibe of wealth and culture, and you can also get a stamp; the Red Glory Exhibition (July special exhibition at the Modern Art Museum), not to be missed.
Changzhou Planning Museum: Located right opposite the entrance of the museum, in the same building. The service desk has stamps, and the interior scenery is excellent, from ancient charm to modern development. Recommended for Changzhou residents, as it might resonate more with them.
Changzhou Cultural Plaza: The art museum, library, and municipal center are all here. The architecture is grand, but it's really hot outside, with large open squares.
Tianning Temple: From 4:30 PM onwards, only exits are allowed, no entry. We couldn't get in. If you plan to visit, make sure to go to Tianning Temple first and then Hongmei Park (the park doesn't close).
Hongmei Park: The trees are quite lush, and there are many water bodies, making it very cool. There are many small attractions like Hongmei Pavilion, Banshan Pavilion, Zhiyin Boat, Wenbi Tower, etc.
Qingguo Lane: Changzhou's version of 'Old Gate East' has arrived. It's a great place for stamp collecting. There are many stamps at Yujian Bookstore, Zhuangyuan Post Office, and hand-drawn Qingguo. Some stamps require a purchase.

Explore the cultural and natural beauty of Changzhou through the ages!
Changzhou, a city filled with awe-inspiring treasures, offers a profound cultural heritage intertwined with stunning natural landscapes, sure to leave a lasting impression. The journey begins in the Tianning District at the Hongmei Park on Yanling Middle Road, Changzhou's largest classical garden and former site of the Tianning Temple. After years of weathering and expansion, it has become a favorite spot for locals to relax and enjoy the scenery. When the plum blossoms are in full bloom, the Hongmei Pavilion is nothing short of poetic, and the Wenbi Tower, built during the Qi and Liang periods of the Southern Dynasties and one of Changzhou's oldest structures, stands majestically with its seven stories, offering a panoramic view of the city from its top.
Next, visit the Baolin Zen Temple at 98 Hongxi Road in the Tianning District. This royal monastery, founded in 527 AD, may be located on the outskirts of the city, but its unique golden pineapple shape and the ancient and solemn architectural complex are captivating, with each brick and tile bearing the weight of history.
Moreover, the Tianning Zen Temple and its Pagoda at 636 Yanling Middle Road in the Tianning District are undoubtedly landmarks of Changzhou. The temple has stood there since the Tang Dynasty's Zhenguan era and is known as the 'Number One Jungle in the Southeast.' The Tianning Pagoda ingeniously integrates the ancient styles of the Tang and Song dynasties, with its 14 stories and alternating design of light and dark layers. The top of the pagoda, with the highest bell and the glittering glazed Buddha statues, is truly breathtaking.
For a taste of local culture, take a stroll to Qingguo Alley at 100 Heping North Road in Tianning Street. This area embodies the rich local culture and artistic atmosphere of Changzhou, with old houses and new blocks reflecting each other. It's a perfect place to appreciate historical relics or capture modern artistic elements.
Don't forget to spend a quiet afternoon at the drip drop coffee shop, admiring the magnificent panorama of the Tianning Zen Temple from its rooftop. Also, don't miss the Changzhou Yinsi Noodle Shop next to the Tianning Zen Temple, where for just 4.5 yuan, you can savor the delicate texture and rich flavor of the authentic Yinsi noodles.
As for the Cultural Square, besides the dazzling modern malls, it's also a great spot for capturing urban landscapes. Although the specifics of the commercial content are not detailed, its presence undoubtedly adds more vitality and color to the journey.

Gap Travel: A Journey Through the Culinary Desert
Changzhou Gourmet Exploration
🚶♂🚇 Departing from Changzhou Station, take the subway to Bo'ai Road to start the gourmet journey.
At Zhongshanmen Market, I tried the egg burger, beef pan-fried bun, and small wontons, and almost got too full to eat the osmanthus rice cake.
🛍💒 I strolled through Qingguo Alley, and although some buildings were not open, I could still feel its historical charm.
Next to the shrimp cake stall on the street, I found a charming tricolor cat with heterochromia, and finally had a drink at the Apron Mom Milk Tea Shop.
🏠🍮 Around the corner is the former residence of Sheng Xuanhuai, and next to it is Zeng's Finance Dessert Shop, where I tasted their double-skin milk, which had a slight fishy taste.
Then I walked along Nandajie, bought the taro-flavored koi fish-shaped buns and egg tarts from Egg Tart Prince. Although the koi fish bun skin was a bit oily and the taro filling was not sweet, it still needed some sugar.
🥞🍳 Continuing on, I arrived at the Changzhou Cake and Dumpling Shop, which was bustling with people, and tried their egg pancake, which was a bit salty.
Finally, I took a taxi to Hongmei Park, first visited Tianning Temple, and experienced a bit of the fragrance of Buddhism. As the weather was clear, Hongmei Park was crowded, making the experience somewhat congested.
🌸🌳 Leaving the north gate, I came to Hongmei Market. Although the line for chicken cutlets was too long, I still bought a baba cake from a roadside stall as the finale of this gourmet exploration. 🎬

Tian Ning Temple in Yangzhou, Jiangsu | The palace where Emperor Qianlong stayed during his trip to the south of the Yangtze River
Tian Ning Temple is one of the 'Eight Ancient Temples' of Yangzhou during the Qing Dynasty.
The starting point of Slender West Lake: Tian Ning Temple.
During the Kangxi and Qianlong periods of the Qing Dynasty, in order to welcome the arrival of Qianlong, the salt merchants of Yangzhou built a palace in the West Garden of Tian Ning Temple. 20 meters down from the entrance of Tian Ning Temple, there is a royal horse head. The word 'horse' in 'Royal Horse Head Pier' is missing the 'stone' character, which is generally considered a typo, but because there can be no obstacles under the emperor's feet, the 'stone' character is removed from the word 'pier'.
It is said that during his southern tour, Kangxi ordered Cao Yin to compile the 'Complete Tang Poems' and 'Pei Wen Yun Fu', which were engraved in Tian Ning Temple.
Legend has it that it was originally built during the Eastern Jin Dynasty and was originally the villa of Xie An, a senior official of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. This is the 'Xie' in 'The swallows in front of the old Wang Xie's hall'.
After Xie An's death, his son Xie Yan 'requested to convert the house into a temple', which means he asked the emperor to allow Xie An's villa to be converted into a temple.
Tian Ning Temple was also one of the main activity places of the Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics during the Qing Dynasty. Nowadays, the statues of the Eight Eccentrics stand on the lawn in Tian Ning Temple, lifelike, as if they have traveled through a hundred years.
In the following hundred years, Tian Ning Temple has experienced wars and was once occupied and destroyed. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was properly repaired and protected, and initially used as the Yangzhou City Museum. After the new site of the Yangzhou Museum was put into use, it was used as the China Yangzhou Buddhist Culture Museum.
It houses a set of 'Complete Library in Four Sections', with a total of more than 32,000 volumes, about 800 million characters. It is open to the public for free. (Stored in the Wen Hui Pavilion near Tian Ning Temple)
Open every day from 9:00 to 17:00.

Leqing Huangtandong - It's a paradise and also a worldly place!
The Spring Festival holiday can be said to have just started today, so I chose Huangtandong.
Transportation: Self-driving, it takes about one hour and forty minutes from Longgang to open the Yongguan Expressway. Get off the highway at the Leqing toll station, and start climbing the mountain road in about twenty minutes. The mountain road takes about half an hour to drive, with many folding bends, so be careful when driving. When you are close to your destination, you will first see the parking lot of Huangtandong Scenic Area. Continue to drive forward, it's still far away, drive all the way to the village, there are two small parking lots, we arrived at eleven and a half, and there are still places in the village parking lot. When I went home in the afternoon, I found that there were several kilometers of cars parked on the side of the mountain road.
About the scenery: Most of the houses in Jinxi Community at the foot of the mountain were built against the mountain in the 1990s. I really like this sense of age.
Entering the village, I found it was an ancient village group. The ancient buildings are well preserved, and it is actually equivalent to being in a mountain nest. If you take pictures on the mountain road before entering the village, it will be very good. The weather was good in the morning, and the scenery was really good.
The entrance of the village is MOJ coffee. I ordered oat latte and blueberry milkshake. The oat latte is average, not as good as the latte in Longtaibei, and the milkshake is not bad.
There are snack stalls at the entrance of the village, and there are several farmhouses in the village. I feel that this is a very satisfying place for this attraction. Some ancient villages can only be seen, but there is nothing to eat. We ate firewood chicken today, a small set meal for 280, +20 for the Spring Festival, with half a chicken and eight or nine vegetables. The amount of vegetables is not too much, two big and one small are eaten up, and I also bought two catties of beautiful people to go home. The firewood chicken is highly recommended, it is unique, it is really burnt with firewood. The boss first fries the chicken, then adds water to burn, and then pours in the small vegetables. I think the taste is not bad, the chicken is very tender, not too salty, although I feel that the chicken should not be free-range chicken, I still recommend eating it overall.
The whole scenic area is about three hours for playing and eating, suitable for round trips on the same day, except for driving, it is generally a leisure tour. to go for the Spring Festival Tourism Worldly Fireworks Coffee from the hustle and bustle of the city a new year with a game

Tian Ning Zen Temple in Changzhou | A must-visit place
When you come to Changzhou, don't miss the historic Tian Ning Zen Temple!
This ancient temple, which was founded during the Tang Dynasty, has a history of more than 1300 years and is one of the largest and best-preserved ancient temples in Changzhou City.🏯
The architectural style of Tian Ning Zen Temple is unique and full of rich Chinese traditional cultural atmosphere!
The main buildings in the temple include the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Great Buddha's Hall, and the Sutra Depository, among which the Great Buddha's Hall is the most important building in the temple. Its eaves brick carving design is rare in the temples in the south of the Yangtze River! Inside, there is a statue of Sakyamuni Buddha, which is majestic and awe-inspiring.
The Tian Ning Pagoda inherits the style of ancient pagodas from the Tang and Song Dynasties, which is antique✨
The entire pagoda has four elevators, going straight up to 12 floors📌
The 13th floor is dedicated to the temple's treasure - the Lapis Lazuli Crystal Buddha, which was brought from ancient India and has a history of more than 500 years. It is the largest natural crystal Sakyamuni statue in the world.
In addition, the entire 13th floor of the Ten Directions Fusion Glazed Hall is made of glazed tiles, which is beautiful and generous🎊
Standing outside the Glazed Hall, you can overlook the entire city of Changzhou, with Hongmei Park next to it, the environment is beautiful🌳
At the highest point of the pagoda, the Fan Yin Pavilion, there is a 30,000 catty high bell, which is a replica of the ancient Tang Dynasty bell. When it rings, the sound lingers, it takes three or four people to turn it, the sound is heavy, and it reverberates...
Around the Fan Yin Pavilion, there is a plaque for the highest bell, many people come from afar, just to ring the high bell, praying for good luck🐎
In Tian Ning Zen Temple, there is also an interesting story: During the Cultural Revolution, the temple was subjected to the 'Destruction of the Four Olds', and the old monk came up with a way to smear lime on the Arhat murals on both sides of the Great Buddha's Hall, thus preserving them👏🏻
