Qiao Family Courtyard is located in the center of Qiaojiabao Village, Qi County. It is also known as "Zhongzhongtang". It is the residence of Qiao Zhiyong, a famous commercial and financial capitalist in the Qing Dynasty. It is also the filming location for more than 30 film and television works such as "Qiao Family Courtyard" and "Raise the Red Lantern". If you have seen these movies, you must be familiar with the scenes here: rows of high-hanging red lanterns, high brick walls, exquisite carvings, beautiful arches and eaves, and deep alleys. This is the famous Qiao Family Courtyard. This is a residential complex from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The architectural style is like a castle, majestic and imposing, and is a typical residential style of large families in the north of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Looking down from a high altitude, the layout of the entire courtyard is very similar to the Chinese character "囍", which symbolizes good luck. The layout of the buildings here is rigorous and varied. The more than 140 chimneys on the roofs are also unique. There is a saying that "the royal family looks at the Forbidden City, and the residential houses look at the Qiao family." Entering the gate of Qiao Family Courtyard, a straight stone-paved corridor about 80 meters long divides the six courtyards into two rows, north and south. According to the traditional name, the three courtyards in the north of Qiao Family Courtyard are called the Old Courtyard, Northwest Courtyard, and Study Courtyard from east to west; the three courtyards in the south are called the Southeast Courtyard, Southwest Courtyard, and New Courtyard, which shows the construction order of each courtyard. The brick carvings, paintings and plaques in each courtyard are very exquisite. The most recommended brick carving is the "Hundred Longevity Picture" screen wall at the gate, with 100 "Longevity" characters in different forms in seal script. You can feel that art and culture are completely integrated together. The brick carvings of the Land God Temple are also worth seeing. There are real gold paintings under the eaves of all the rooms in the entire courtyard. It is worth mentioning that the paintings here use the powder technology, which is stacked layer by layer and finally coated with gold, which is very delicate. There are many plaques in the Qiao Family Courtyard. The "Danfeng Pavilion" plaque inscribed by Fu Shan in the fourth courtyard is worth seeing. When you come here, you must understand the story behind this plaque. In addition, there are three treasures in the Qiao Family Courtyard: the Ten Thousand People Ball, the Rhino Moon Mirror, and the Nine Dragon Lantern. The Rhino Moon Mirror was the treasure of the Qiao family owner at that time, and the Nine Dragon Lantern was a treasure given by Empress Dowager Cixi, which is in the middle courtyard on the south side. Today, Qiao Family Courtyard is also a folk museum. The six courtyards respectively display the life during the farming years, life ceremonies, inner gardens, business customs, furnishings of wealthy families, and the history of the Qiao family. While visiting, you can learn about the Qiao family's philosophy of life, family management, and business.
