London really is a place where ancient history meets the modern world. Stepping into this magnificent building located in Bloomsbury, London, one is immediately struck by its grand neoclassical facade. The imposing stone columns and wide marble steps seem to announce to every visitor that this is a treasure trove of knowledge and culture. Upon entering the museum, the eye is drawn to the massive Great Court, where the glass dome design allows soft natural light to flood the space, creating a blend of modern and classical ambiance. Here, people move between different galleries, with languages and cultures intertwining, giving a sense of global exchange. My visit began with the Egyptian gallery. The mummies and ancient steles here make one feel as if they have traveled through time to the mysterious world of ancient Egypt. Especially the Rosetta Stone, which, as the key artifact for deciphering ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, evokes an indescribable sense of awe when standing before it. This stone is not only a symbol of Egyptian civilization but also a linguistic breakthrough of an era. Next, I headed to the Greek and Roman gallery, which houses the sculptures from the Parthenon. These sculptures, with their exquisite details and lifelike postures, showcase the pinnacle of ancient Greek art. By the end of the day, I felt the stories and human creativity behind each artifact. The Topaz Victoria Hotel is located at 24-32 Ebury Street, London, very close to Victoria Station, just a 5-minute walk away, which is very convenient. 🌆 The location is really good, and it's very convenient to go to Buckingham Palace 👑, Trafalgar Square 🎨, or Covent Garden 🛍️, especially for shopping and sightseeing. However, the hotel experience was terrible from start to finish 💔. The reception was a bit cold and didn't even know how to answer basic questions. The decor is very British, small and quaint, but many of the facilities are very old. The staff were indifferent and seemed unconcerned about the guests' problems. The room experience was simply indescribable 🤦‍♂️. The room I stayed in was very small, the TV was old, and the remote control didn't work very well 🕹️. The bed was not only old but also damp, which was very uncomfortable and I didn't want to touch it at all. The toilet seat in the bathroom was broken, and there were many stains on the carpet, which was unbearable. When I reported these problems to the front desk, they showed no willingness to solve them. And from check-in to check-out, there were constant communication problems, especially when checking out, there were all kinds of inexplicable charges. #2024mapped After two trips to London (making all kinda mistakes), here are my few pieces of advice: 1) Transportation - Paying with a contactless card, it’s automatically capped at £8.5/day (which already covered the journey to 99% of the attractions in London) - Night tubes (5 lines) runs whole night on Fri/Sat so people who wanna experience London nightlife without breaking the bank to call Uber can stay close to the related stations. 2) Attraction - for London skyline viewing, there are many free observatory than the Shard (which is crazily expensive, eg. Horizon 22 > Sky Garden > the Garden at 120 / the Post Building > level 10 at Tate Modern - for markets hopping, Borough market has very great cheeses (pay attention to a booth selling 15-month Comte and another selling all sorta liquor-infused cheeses); Leadenhall market has very cool, classical-influenced architecture; Portobello road market is long but rather boring to me, however. - for museum: many great museums in UK are free-entry (much loves), which could be a blissful nuisance because there would be too many to go; prioritize Victoria and Albert Museums and, of course, the British Museum. - to cover most of the London trademarks in the most efficient manner, a stroll along Thames River (in a day or two) would be a good idea to consider—but I’d suggest do it from east to west, coz many building doesn’t look that good against the sunlight. *feel free to ask any questions in the comments*
