It is the largest island in the Riau Archipelago, and its largest city, Tanjung Pinang, is located in the island's southwest. One hour from Singapore, I found my dream room in this stunning hotel!
I took a one-hour boat ride from Singapore to Bintan Island and found my dream room here. I still miss it after coming back! The view from the room is so beautiful with the sunshine and beach. It's so comfortable to just sit on the balcony. The Sanchaya, a treasure hotel on Bintan Island, is located on the northern coast of Bintan Island, Indonesia, and is a member of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts LEGEND Collection. The LEGEND Collection brings together the world's top independent hotels, and The Sanchaya has become a secret garden for travelers seeking extraordinary experiences with its cultural depth and ultimate privacy.
The Sanchaya has only 30 suites and villas on its 9-hectare territory, which is a respect for privacy and individuality. From customized dining to special events, every detail shows ingenuity. The hotel's architecture is inspired by the 19th-century Southeast Asian manor, with Thai-style villas and Nanyang-style bungalows. The elegance of teak structures and handicrafts is intertwined, while modern facilities are quietly integrated into it. The main restaurant cleverly blends Indonesian flavors with Western cuisine, and public spaces such as the library and swimming pool continue the low-key sophistication.
It is worth mentioning that The Sanchaya has its own VIP Lounge at the Bintan Island Pier. After taking a one-hour boat ride from Singapore to Indonesia, you don’t have to go through immigration procedures such as passport stamping yourself. The hotel butler will take care of everything. The same is true when leaving the country, which is so convenient! In addition, the resort has designed a series of cultural immersion experiences, from mangrove canoe expeditions to spice garden visits, allowing guests to connect with the natural pulse of Bintan Island. There are no noisy crowds here, only the whispers of coconut groves and the soft murmur of waves, reserving a pure piece of land for travelers seeking a deep vacation.
Singapore Getaway: I found this stunning, hidden gem of a hotel!
Singapore Getaway: I found this stunning, hidden gem of a hotel: The Sanchaya! It's so beautiful! And it's only an hour away from Singapore by boat! This is a luxury resort hotel located in the northern part of Bintan Island, Indonesia, and belongs to the LEGEND series of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, a well-known global hotel alliance. This series represents the highest level of member hotels of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, and is known for its excellent service, unique design, and cultural heritage.
The Sanchaya focuses on privacy and personalized experiences. All rooms are equipped with private butler service and offer customized dining and activity arrangements. Room types include beachfront villas and tropical garden suites, and facilities include a swimming pool, library, spa, and fusion restaurant serving Indonesian and Western cuisine. The hotel also offers local experiences such as Bintan Island cultural tours and mangrove forest adventures, emphasizing a deep connection with nature and local culture.
The Sanchaya covers an area of approximately 9 hectares and has 30 suites and villas. The overall design combines Southeast Asian old-world style with modern and elegant aesthetics. Some buildings are inspired by 19th-century Southeast Asian estates, creating an understated and sophisticated atmosphere. As a member of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts LEGEND series, The Sanchaya is positioned as high-end due to its excellent hospitality, understated luxury, attention to detail, and high privacy of all-villa room types. It avoids over-commercialization and is very suitable for travelers seeking tranquility and cultural immersion.

You get your own private pool inside the villa, plus a bathtub to soak your stress away. If you’d prefer a bigger splash, they got a nice swimming pool for villa guest too too! They also provide a free shuttle from the ferry terminal, and the friendly driver might even take you to grab a bite nearby if you’re hungry before check-in. Comfort, convenience, and calm—what more could you ask for? Spend the day floating in the pool, unwind in the tub, then sink into the super comfy bed for a perfect night's rest.

#islandtour
Tucked away on the enchanting island of Bintan, Blue Lake offers a stunning oasis of calm and strikingly vivid colors. Known locally as 'Danau Biru,' the lake is not only a visual delight but also a popular spot for those looking to escape the bustling tourist paths and enjoy a quiet, contemplative environment.
Vibrant Waters in a Tranquil Setting
Blue Lake is famed for its mesmerizing, bright blue waters, a natural phenomenon resulting from the mineral content in the lake. Surrounded by the lush greenery of Bintan's tropical landscape, the contrast between the vibrant blue of the lake and the verdant greens of the forest creates a breathtaking visual palette that feels almost surreal.
Perfect for Photography and Relaxation
The surreal beauty of Blue Lake makes it a prime location for photography enthusiasts. The unique color of the water serves as a perfect backdrop for stunning photographs, while the serene atmosphere provides a peaceful setting for picnics or simply relaxing by the water's edge. It’s an ideal spot for meditation or spending a quiet afternoon with a book.
Visitor Tips
- Accessibility: Blue Lake is relatively accessible by car or taxi from most major areas of Bintan. However, the last stretch of the road may be rough, so a vehicle suitable for rugged terrain is recommended.
- Best Time to Visit: The lake is most picturesque under the bright sun, which enhances the vivid blue of the water. Early mornings or late afternoons are perfect for avoiding the glare and enjoying cooler temperatures.
- Safety Precautions: While the lake is safe for visiting, swimming is not recommended due to the unknown depth and mineral content of the water. Always stay cautious and enjoy the view from the shores.

[Breathtaking view] Unrealistic beauty! A blue lake you should see at least once in your life🩵
#Travelwithme
I went to Bintan Island in Indonesia🇮🇩 You can get to Bintan Island from Singapore in about an hour by ferry😌💓 Among the places on Bintan Island, the one I thought I definitely couldn't miss was Gurun Pasir Bintan✨️It's a spot where you can see the beautiful Blue Lake!
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━❤️Recommended points━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━︎︎︎︎☑︎ You can enjoy the unrealistic beauty︎︎︎︎☑︎ There are many photo spots︎︎︎︎☑︎ You can enjoy the spectacular blue scenery you've never seen before
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━⚠️Points to be careful of━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━︎︎︎︎☑︎ Don't forget to bring a hat, sunglasses, or parasol as there is nothing to block the sun! Be especially careful during the day when the sun is high. ☑︎ The Blue Lake is deeper than other lakes, which is why it has this color, so be careful not to fall in! ☑︎ You have to get into the water to sit on the bench in the first picture, so it's a good idea to bring a towel or something. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━💡Tips for solo travelers ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ I had the taxi driver I rented take lots of photos and videos for me. 📸 You can also book tours on OTAs, so I recommend searching for "Bintan Blue Lake" and signing up! It's not that crowded, so you can enjoy it to your heart's content. However, it's hot, so I recommend carrying a plastic bottle and sunglasses. Spot information: Gurun Pasir Bintan Address: Jl. One of the standout features of the resort is its rooftop outdoor swimming pool 🏊 . The pool offers breathtaking panoramic sea views that provide a perfect backdrop for a refreshing swim or just lounging by the water. During my stay, I also took advantage of the free paddleboard provided by the resort. It comes with a life jacket too.
🥪We enjoyed a complimentary breakfast buffet every morning, which included a wide variety of delicious options that catered to all tastes.
🍗 For dinner, we arranged for a BBQ on top of our villa, which was expertly set up by the resort staff. Grilling with the backdrop of the ocean and under the stars was a memorable dining experience that added to the luxury of our stay.

DIY Sight-seeing in Bintan Island
Part of my birthday staycation in Bintan last April, we dedicated a chunk of our 2nd day going around tourist spots of our liking. I booked a private car charter for 6 hours and it costed us around 80sgd including tips for the driver. Knowing that our accommodation is far from the usual tourist spots, we decided to start the day early by leaving right after breakfast.
The driver picked us up and off we went to our first location, which was 500 Lohan Temple. The driver accompanied us inside the temple and helped us pay for the entrance ticket. There were not many people as it was still early, and it was hot! Our driver also helped took photos of me and my sister together. The temple was interesting as it featured 500 life-size statues with different facial expressions.
Second location is Gurun Pasir Bintan aka as Bintan Desert and Blue Lake. This place was amazing! The very vibrant colour of the blue lake against the white sandy hills was so pretty. There are several activities available to do here. This was our favourite place. Lots of photo ops here with our driver offering to take photos of us again. Look for the 2D animals in the sandy hills haha! It can get very hot though so please be hydrated when visiting. There are many food and drink stalls here so don’t fret. The driver took us to a stall that sells coconut juice, sat, drank, and rested for a bit.
Last location is Trikora beach. According to reviews, this beach boasts of white sand and clear blue water. Both were true but my issue was that the shore was dirty. We didn’t know if it was just that part of the shore since it’s a long stretch. It was still very pretty though. It was the beachfront of the restaurant Pizza Casa Italia where we had our late lunch. This restaurant has very good reviews which convinced me to try when we visit Bintan. We noticed there were more local families eating here and having a get-together than tourists. We loved the pizza, it was so filling even though it’s thin crust and tasted delicious. We enjoyed our lunch especially with the beach as the view.
The driver dropped us off in our hotel before the supposed 6-hour charter because we arrived early. Still wasn’t an issue since we were very tired and hot due to the weather. We paid, tipped our driver and thanked him, officially ending our DIY tour.
Featured in the photos are:

🏡 Pantai Indah Lagoi Villa
We booked this room for about $300 SGD a night and it was worth every cent! 😍
The Room: 5/5 ⭐️
The room definitely exceeded our expectation, This is probably the first hotel that looked better in real life than in pictures?!
The villa comes with a separate living room, A kitchenette with a sink, full size fridge and dining table too! The bathroom is huge with a free standing bath tub. The toilet is equipped with a bidet too 😄🔫
All the villa comes with a decent size pool and a day bed + two sun bed. We were super lucky to get a room where the sun shines on our area fully all day yay ☀️
The bed and pillows were extra comfy and bit and all the aircon runs well. The villa is definitely maintained and serviced really well by the hotel.
Resort Facilities: 🏝️
There's also a private beach access, it's perfect for watching the sunset and doing a walk. The tide is really low throughout the day so a little unfortunate that the beach is not ideal for swimming.
There's also an in-house spa where you can do different types of massage, just be sure to make a reservation ahead of time.
The Resturant: 3/5
Only down fall about this villa is that the service for the restaurants is really slow. It takes about 30mins for them to serve drinks even without any crowd and about 1 hour for them to serve your food.
I wouldn't recommend having any of their sides cause we ordered their fries and they were stale and definitely refried.
However their asian food was pretty alright, so if you do have dinner there stick to the asian cuisine! 😆
The Breakfast: 4.5/5 🍳🧇
For some reason despite the standard of the dinners, their breakfast spread was actually up to standard.
They had a wide selection of cuisine and food to choose from. Some of my favorite that was served were the: Roti prata, Fried noodle, Their waffles, Stir fried vegetable and fish fingers 😋
Anyways, I would definitely visit this hotel again when I visit bintan 🇮🇩 It's perfect for a short trip with your partner or the gals 💅

Where to stay at Bintan? (Affordable) 💰
I stayed at Grand Lagoi Hotel at my recent trip to Bintan, and I like that there was a free bus from the ferry terminal to bring us there. They will send you to the ferry terminal as well! It was about $80+/night inclusive of breakfast.
I would definitely recommend Grand Lagoi because it was super affordable, the room was big and comfy (Deluxe Room), and it's super convenient with quite a few things around. The place was quiet also so it was really peaceful. I like the infinity pool as well. The only con would be the gym though, it was really small and two machines weren't working, so if you're planning to gym you can probably only use the dumbbells.

Exploring mangrove experience in Bintan
It was a short journey (15 to 20 minutes from Anmon Resort. The 45 minutes bintan green mangrove tour offers a captivating nature experience within Bintan's lush mangrove forests. Navigate the River to appreciate the diverse plant and animal life. There will be a guide and a person who will be driving the boat, they will share their knowledge about the formation and vital role of mangrove trees in preserving clean water.
These mangroves harbor intriguing wildlife, including shy creatures like monkeys, monitor lizards, and mangrove snakes. Lucky observers might spot snakes resting above the tree branches or monkeys swinging through trees. The riverbed can be spotted with marine life, such as mudskippers, crabs, mud lobsters, snails, and clams. Towards the river's end, you will learn about the practical uses of mangrove plants, like crafting hats and making into shirts material.
There will also be some kelpngs known as Orang Lauts, living in stilt-built homes. You can also see static fishing traps used by fishermen to secure their daily catches along the river.
There were also free coconut (to be pluck from their tree on the spot) and also a small river swing for good photo taking and experience shoot.
Overall, it will a short and sweet journey but it would be good to have the boat to be have a longer journey. #mangrove #bintan
Bintan Lagoon Resort
#beachaholic
My wife's family came over to Singapore and I wanted to bring them to somewhere for a short trip near Singapore. Bintan is the perfect place and we stayed at Bintan Lagoon Resort. It's very convenient to come here. Just take the ferry over here and the resort is just beside the jetty. What we love about this resort is that it's has its own private beach. We really enjoyed ourselves exploring the beach looking for seashells and other stuff.
de Cliff Cafe - A Hilltop Bistro with Panaromic Views
When you are in Bintan, don't just confine yourself to the resort area! Venture out and uncover some of the island's hidden gems. One such gem is De Cliff cafe, a charming bistro nestled on a hill and offering breathtaking views of Gunung Bintan.
Discovering this place was a delightful surprise, as we never anticipated stumbling upon such a picturesque spot. Upon stepping into De Cliff cafe, I was immediately captivated by its inviting ambience. The gentle breeze and soothing sounds of nature adds to the serenity. It's the kind of place that tempts you to settle in with a refreshing cup of beer!
En route to Gurun Pasir Bintan, this place can serve as a rest spot after a long journey.

Escape to a Desert Paradise: Gurun Pasir Bintan
Bintan is renowned for its luxurious resorts and sandy beaches. It's a short distance from Singapore and a good escape from the bustling city life.
One of the must-visit places in Bintan is Gurun Pasir Bintan. It is a man-made 'desert', previously a Bauxite mine. Over the years, it has become a tourist spot when the excavation site was transformed to sand dunes and the mineral residues of the mine turned the water clear blue.
This place is highly instagrammable and frequented by both locals and tourists. It is my second time visiting this place and there are a few activities added - ATV riding and photo taking with eagle.
It is worth going if you have time to spare!

Service is fantastic and staff speak English well.
Also the buggy service available to guests at their dispense is so convenient too.
