The flowers weren't in full bloom yet in March, but they were beginning to appear. The house tour is easily the most child friendly tour we have been on. The house is much changed since the 17th C but, unusually is blessed by still possessing much of the furniture and many of the paintings which its successive owners purchased before EH took possession. The guides we met were exceptionally knowledgeable about the house, its contents and its history.

So glad we travelled an hour to visit this lovely garden. We particularly enjoyed the Dutch Garden and the maze and loved that there were viewing platforms. delightful maze with a viewing platform at its centre. Local art museum as well, with free entry. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the grandeur of the house and the beauty of the surrounding gardens. Stepping inside Audley End feels like traveling back in time. The historic architecture is breathtaking, with each room telling a fascinating story of England’s past. Featuring opulent state rooms, lavish interiors, and intricate detail. The guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and added so much richness to the experience. The gardens with meticulously maintained, bursting with colour, and incredibly serene were highlight. Walking through the grounds felt like stepping into a painting. We loved strolling through the vibrant parterres, the serene woodland walks, and the charming kitchen garden. The Victorian stable yard was another favorite, where we met the gentle Shire horses and learned about life in the 19th century. The organic café nearby served delicious homemade treats, perfect for a relaxing break.
