[Kyoto Prefecture] Yatadera Temple on Teramachi Street!
Yatadera Temple, located on Teramachi Street in downtown Kyoto, is a Seizan Jodo sect temple with its official name Kongo-san Yatadera Temple. It was founded in 700 (4th year of the Hakuho era) as a branch temple of Yatadera Temple in Yamatokoriyama City, Nara, famous for its hydrangeas, as a place of imperial prayer for Emperor Tenmu and Empress Jito. It was later moved several times, and in 1579 (7th year of the Tensho era), it was built in its current location by order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The temple bell hanging in the main hall has a heavy sound.
