Historic buildings

Liurong Temple was built in the third year of Liang Datong (537), formerly known as Baozhuangyan Temple, with a history of more than 1,400 years. It was destroyed by fire at the beginning of the Northern Song Dynasty, and was rebuilt in the second year of Song Duangong (989), which was renamed Jinghui Temple. In the third year of Yuanfu (1100), writer and calligrapher Su Dongpo visited the temple and saw that there were six old banyan trees in the temple. There is a towering Thousand Buddha Pagoda in the temple, which is a famous ancient high-rise building in Guangzhou. The east of the tower is the mountain gate, Maitreya Hall and Wei Tuo Hall. There is the Daxiong Hall in Taxi, which enshrines three large Buddha statues cast in brass in the second year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1663). These Buddha statues are the largest ancient bronze statues in Guangdong Province. In the Rongyin Garden in the temple, there is the Sixth Patriarch Hall, which enshrines the bronze statue of Huineng, the sixth-generation patriarch of Zen Buddhism. The Sixth Patriarch was an outstanding monk in the Tang Dynasty who founded the Southern School of Buddhism. His bronze statue was cast in the second year of Duangong in the Northern Song Dynasty (989), and its appearance is solemn and lifelike.
