If you are not short on time and are hesitating whether to overnight in Tawau on your way to Semporna, Mabul, and Sipadan, my suggestion is why not stay 1 night. The waterfront here is wide and long, which is good for hanging out in the evening and enjoying sunset. There is also a vibrant night market everyday. I tried an iced coffee at Kopi Senja Dan Kamu on a hot day. At the far end of the waterfront lies the magnificent Masjid Al-Khauthar, which is beautifully lit at night. The town centre where the bus terminal is located consists of historic shophouses with street arts and some statues.
