The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery is housed in Hobart's old building, the Food Supply Station (built in 1808). The museum mainly displays related materials of the Tasmanian natives who disappeared due to British colonization, as well as the culture of the early colonial era. A highlight of the pavilion is the extinct Tasmanian tiger taxidermy. The Tasmanian tiger, also known as the thylacine, has black stripes and is a marsupial like the kangaroo. The pavilion adopts a collage-style architectural style with repeated additions, which is very special. The colonial building prototype was completed in 1863, with several additions over the years. The entrance to the museum was completed in 1987 and is part of the overall building.
