#exploreasia One of the must visit when you come visit Taroko National Park. As the name suggest, many swallows forge and play among the rocks that was formed over tens of thousands of years. The marble was sculpted over the years by the Liwu river running across, with many potholes that pockmark the grotto. The unique structure was indeed the magnificent work of mother nature. We were lucky to spot a resting swallow and boy it was cute. According to the guide, the number of swallows have decreased over the years so we were lucky to see a few having fun at the grotto. Safety of the public is of utmost importances so all visitors are required to wear a helmet. Falling stones can be due to animals or rain, hence unpredictable. The trail is suitable for all as it is flat all the way through and relatively short. Nevertheless the view was great! #taroko #awesomepic #couplestrip

#taipei The Yanzikou (Swallow Grotto) trail is about a half kilometre long, starting from the entrance to Swallow Grotto to the Jinheng Bridge. We enjoyed walking along the Liwu River which forms its own trail below us. The river carved some high cliffs and there are many natural holes in the cliff walls that were used by swallows as the sites of their nests. We saw some flying creatures but could not confirm if they were swallows or not. indeed a very beautiful scenery with the river below, steep cliffs and caves. do visit if you are visiting Taroko Gorge.

One of the famous attractions in Taroko National Park is the artificial rock-cut open tunnel [Yanzikou]. Walking through the colorful marble tunnel in Hualien, you can feel the deep and shallow rock marks of early artificial excavation. Under the sunlight, the deep valleys cut by the streams and the green mountains and fields form a beautiful scenery. Taroko National Park is one of the nine national parks in Taiwan and was named after the Taroko Gorge, the landmark gorge of the park carved by the Liwu River.

The best place to view the Taroko Gorge inside the national park, Swallow Grotto is near the middle of the park and located just after Buluowan. Take Bus 310 from Hualien station and alight at Swallow Grotto. The path is shared between pedestrians and automobiles, total length of the trail is around 1.4 kilometers, due to frequent landslides and falling rocks, visitors are advised to wear a safety helmet, available for free from the park. The trail was named after many swallows that forge and play among the rocks, formed over many many years ago, so you will notice many potholes on the cliff faces. You will also notice the narrowest portion of Taroko Gorge where the river is most rapid.

We were recommended to wear helmet to walk along the Yanzikou trial for safety reasons as there maybe rocks falling from above time to time. You’ll be walking into a cave-like trial and do be careful as there will be cars driving pass every now and then. Admire the beautiful valley while walking along the trail and as you continue down the road, there will be a food store for you to buy some snacks to eat. #goout From Yanzikou, you can overlook the Liwu River Canyon. As you walk, you can enjoy the river view, potholes on the rocks, and strangely shaped rocks. Remember to borrow a safety helmet for free at the Taroko National Park Service Station to prevent falling rocks!
