From manila you can take a bus that will take you 9012 hours depending on traffic. 2. Take a flight to Cauayan Airport, then take a bus for 4 more hours. I travelled 9 hours from Manila to Banaue. Of course, I really wanted to see again Banaue Rice Terraces. Choosing Banaue Hotel is always my priority for it gives me a native smile from the attendants, welcome drinks, and my room always has a breathtaking view of the Cordillera mountains especially on the sunrise. Plus, my experience of dining is superb while having my delicious food with a stunning view as I sit beside the window. My room is not air- conditioned but to open the window to let the cool breeze sets in especially on night time makes me feel asleep. Banaue hotel is the most comfortable, secured and convenient place to stay in Banaue. Wonderful experience. I give it my ☆☆☆☆ rating. Mabuhay! It is located in Ilogue, Brgy. Tam-an, Banaue, Ifugao. Inside Banaue Hotel, as the sun rises viewed from the windows of Imbayah Restaurant, I take my morning buffet breakfast which is inclusive to my hotel booking reservation. I enjoyed my morning brewed mountain provinces coffee, with my toasted bread and champurado, filipino and continental breakfast, plus fruits and vegetable salad make my whole morning meal a great moment of greeting a new day. #celebratewithtrip One of my most memorable trips is Banaue, Ifugao where you can find the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Batad Rice Terraces and Bangaan Rice Terraces. It is 8-9 hrs travel via NLEX, SCTEX, TPLEX taking Pura Exit to Dalton Pass and drive straight to Bagabag then enter Ifugao to Banaue. I choose Banaue Hotel which is 1/2 km before the town center. It is a government hotel which gives the indigenous feeling and ambiance of the place. Buffet breakfast is excellent with the like of champurado and dried fish. It has swimming pool but the cold weather prevents me to dip in. But of course, I need to see BATAD. It is a 19 mins drive by car but I need to walk to Batad. I hired a guide to take the best trails and to tell about the history and custom of the locals. It was a difficult trekking and I did not finish because I was not too ready. The Banaue Rice Terraces are terraces that were carved into the mountains of Banaue, Ifugao, in the Philippines, by the ancestors of the Igorot people. The terraces are occasionally called the "Eighth Wonder of the World". It is commonly thought that the terraces were built with minimal equipment, largely by hand.

If you are in Batad and you have one half day to spare, hiking to Tappiyah Falls is the first thing to consider. Tappiyah Falls is part of a river passing Batad. This river breaks in 70-metre elevation creating powerful waterfall pouring into a sizeable pool. The white stream and mists contrast in colour with the thick vegetation backdrop. Also the wind from the falls gently shakes the ferns on the cliff, making it very enjoyable to watch. If the current is not strong, you can leisurely swim in the pool. Admission is free. What you need is physical fitness due to 2km distance with a lot of ups and downs. It took me 1 hour to go down to the falls and 45 minutes back to Batad. Minimum 1 litre of water is recommended. There are at least 3 drink stalls selling the trail, but all were closed during my visit. Batad is unique in that its rice terraces are stone-walled and it is a round valley offering 360° view if you are at the centre or panoramic view if you are on the side/cliff. I chose to stay here instead of Banaue due mainly to the setting explained above and the less development, which I didn't regret. I had to exchange cell reception and good wifi though. I also found that the people of Batad were very welcoming and warm. Greeting a visitor like me was common while I walked around the terraces. From the photos, you can see that you can enjoy magnificent views of the rice terraces from different angles depending on where you are. It's breathtaking! The walkway is quite small and, when linking between levels, can be quite steep. I recommend you have a certain level of physical fitness in order to enjoy the best of Batad.

The Banaue Rice Terraces in the Philippines was famous enough as it is… but it got even more popular when it was included in a blockbuster American movie. I got to visit this place in 2019. Banaue is accessible by land travel. Our family paid for a private tour which enabled us to have exclusive use of the van (with driver & tour guide) and unrestricted time in visiting Banaue and Sagada. This is the way to go when travelling with a senior citizen and with people who are into photography. If you are in a tour group, normally, time to explore the places visited are restricted since there are a lot of places to cover during the tour. You also cannot just stop the vehicle when you want a toilet break! 😂 If you want to visit this place, it is best to travel at dawn then wait for the sun to rise over the rice terraces. This would’ve been a spectacular sight but we missed it since we came late :( After taking in the view and taking photos around the area, you can enjoy breakfast in nearby eateries or restaurants. Banaue rice terraces is the "8th Wonder of the World" found in Ifugao, Philippines. This is famous tourist spot or destination but it requires you for road trip going here. From manila it will take you 8-10 hours to reach this place, no tram, no taxi, but by private car or commute by bus. This is free entrance coz you just view it on the road. When thinking of traveling the Philippines, the first things you’ll find while researching are amazing beaches, blue lagoons and wide eyed miniature monkeys, called tarsiers. When my wife and I were looking for a place to chill out on our honeymoon, that’s exactly what we found. However, being a backpacker by nature, I also looked for something off the beaten path. That’s how I found a place that locals refer to as “The 8th World Wonder” – the Banaue rice terraces. Banaue is in Luzon Island in the north of the Philippines, in an area called Ifugao. It has one of the most amazing mountain views you’ll ever see. These mountains are the home of 2,000-year-old rice terraces, and is, in my opinion, a place you shouldn’t miss if you visit the Philippines. The area has several villages that have become tourist attractions. Banaue is the region's biggest town and the gateway to all other places, while Batad, Sagada, Hapao and Cambulo are a few of the villages in the area. These are fed by an ancient irrigation system from the rainforests above the terraces. It is said that if the steps were put end to end, it would encircle half of the globe. Locals up to this day still plant rice and vegetables on the terraces, although more and more younger Ifugaos do not find farming appealing,often opting for the more lucrative hospitality industry generated by the terraces.The result is the gradual erosion of the characteristic "steps", which require constant reconstruction and care. In 2010, a further problem encountered was drought, with the terraces drying up completely in March of that year.

Yes, the rice terraces are beautiful. No argument. However, the pollution caused by vehicles is so overwhelming that it gave me a headache and I had to leave early. I have lived in 3 of the most polluted cities in the world, Saigon (HCMC), Bangkok and Mexico City. They look like a rain forest compared to any place in the Philippines. You can see impressive rice terraces in southern China or Bali and not have to deal with the horrible emissions in Banaue. I was constantly holding my shirt over my nose but the fumes still permeated my nose. #givethanks #givethanks

Because the southern mountains of Luzon are surrounded by mountains, and the Banaue terraced mountains are deep in the mountains, the traffic to the area is relatively inconvenient. #favouriteitinerary This is one of the most spectacular views and landscapes in my opinion. The rice terraces are over 1000 years old and it is impressive to see how it was built back in those days where they did not have electricity and modern heavy machinery. The villages are still quite disconnected from the world - not many spots where you have good WiFi coverage- especially around Batad. That’s not necessarily a bad thing as you’re assured of time away from the usual city life and enjoy nature in the best way possible. The villagers are very friendly and welcoming. Getting there - take a bus from Manila, about 8 hours by road. Tickets can be booked online quite easily. Please beware of the extreme AC in the Coda (purple) bus!! Carry jackets n cover yourself to survive. They DO NOT adjust the temperature even if you’re freezing! Once there I think 2 days is more than enough to cover the region and visit all the important spots - Banaue view point, Batad village and view point, Ducligan Snake river, San Fernando, etc.

I travelled to the Batad Rice Terraces in Luzon, Philippines last October. I took an approximately 10-hour overnight bus from Manila to there. Once I’d seen the magnificent view in Batad, my physical and mental tiredness was all gone. It totally worths the long travel time to there. There is a nice waterfall in Batad called Tappiyah Falls. From the village centre, it only takes about 20 minutes of walking to the falls. It is also nice to visit. #Batad #luzon #Philippines
