Kakslauttanen Artic Resort is one of the popular resorts in Saariselkä Fell region of Kakslauttanen, because Kakslauttanen is one of the world's best places for see the northern lights. The property is surrounded by nature and river, 6 km from Urho Kekkonen National Park and 37 km from Ivalo Airport. This resort has several types of accommodations; the accommodation I booked is Kelo Glass Igloos, a chalet with a combination of glass igloos, the newest type of accommodation in this resort. This room can accommodate up to 6 people, with a big bathroom and has a private sauna, fireplace, kitchenette, and a stunning glass roof to see the aurora. The entire building, including the bed made by Kelo pinewood. West Village Aurora Restaurant is the main restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, it operates as an office for hotel check-in during wintertime, a meet-up place for a tour operator for activities, and a souvenir shop. Although I didn't have the luck to see the Northern lights, my stay in this resort was fantastic and memorable. The glass house of Saliscar has long been known, and one of the purposes of coming to Finland is to experience it. The hotel is divided into the east and west districts. The drive is separated by five minutes. Each district has its own cabin and glass house. We have a cabin and a glass house for each of the four people. The price of the cabin is about the glass house. Half of it, if you come here, I recommend staying in two room types for one night, because it is really different. Each cabin in East is quite far apart and will not be disturbed at all. The whole house is stacked one by one with wood, and the house is also covered with wood, including the roof, bed frame and floor. The big bed room here is the only real big bed that I lived in Finland all the way down. The other hotel big bed rooms are made up of two single beds. The cabins are large, with sofas, kitchens and a separate sauna. The glass room in the West District is very small, basically two single beds, a very mini bathroom, there is a toilet and a pool, but there is no bath, so for this time we chose another two People think that the cabin is quite sensible, so that you can take a bath at night, or you can put unused luggage there. After all, the baggage is dragged some distance, and it is muddy and uneven, and it is not very good.

We had a wonderful time at Jaakkola Reindeer Farm! The highlight was the reindeer sleigh ride—although it was a short one, it was still a great experience to glide through the snowy landscape with these gentle animals. We also got to feed the reindeer, which was a fun and interactive way to learn more about them. The farm provided a warm and cozy setting where we could enjoy a hot berry drink, perfect for the chilly weather. It was a nice touch that added to the overall experience. For families with kids, there’s even a small slide and swings for them to enjoy, making it a great place for visitors of all ages. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, sharing interesting insights about reindeer and local traditions. | They look amazing in real life! 🩵 The English word for Finnish glass igloos is "igloo." A more straightforward term is "glass room." 🍀 When we went to Finland, we stayed in some very unique rooms in the Lapland region. To be honest, we still have a long way to go in developing our own ice and snow industry. 📍 There are many beautiful igloos and cabins in Rovaniemi, Saariselkä, and Inari. They all have unique shapes. 🌟 Forest cabins - chalet 🌟 Mobile mini igloos - cabin Make sure to check carefully when booking a room. 🩵 Saariselkä 📍 We visited the popular Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort in Saariselkä, but the rooms felt a bit small, less than 20 m², which was quite cramped. 📍 Not far away is Northern Light Village, which has newer facilities and rooms twice the size, offering great value for money. So we ended up booking Northern Light Village. 🩵 Inari 👉 In Inari, we stayed in a cabin, which was much better than the igloos. 🩵 Levi ❄ The glass igloos in Levi are cube-shaped, with a square design. The one-way mirror glass exterior walls are very stylish. 🍀 From the outside, they look like mirrors reflecting the forest, but from the inside, you can see everything outside, which is very wild. 🩵 Booking Tips ☕ Most of the glass igloos in Saariselkä include breakfast and dinner, which is convenient. The glass igloos in Levi only include breakfast, but the room rates in Levi are half the price. 🛷 The glass igloo hotels in Saariselkä, Inari, and Levi all offer aurora tours and husky sledding activities. 💰 There are also many glass igloos in Rovaniemi, but they are the most expensive. Considering that the main goal of this trip was to see the aurora, not to stay in a glass igloo, we chose to experience the glass igloos further north. 🛀 The glass igloos here all have electric water heaters, which are not convenient for showering, as you have to wait. The rooms are quite warm, thanks to air conditioning and fireplaces, but they are very dry.

A trip to Finland in winter is not complete without trying the outdoor sport of dog sledding. In Lapland, you can experience the fun of Finland's most traditional winter sport - dog sledding! You can also learn about the life habits and daily life of huskies, sit in a traditional Sami tent by the fire, enjoy some traditional Sami snacks, and drink a cup of fruit tea! All of this is in Finnish Lapland! 👍Highly recommended: The most common sled dogs in Finland are Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes, and most of them are now crossbreeds of the two. They are even more enthusiastic about their owners, like children eager to be pampered. Here, a dog sled is a sled with two people, pulled by five sled dogs. Some are pulled by seven sled dogs! The journey through snow-laden trails felt surreal, with Finland’s crisp air and stunning wilderness setting the scene. Jaakkola itself was a gem—meeting reindeer up close and learning about the Sami culture was unforgettable. The farm’s hospitality made the experience cozy despite the cold. Feeding the reindeer and enjoying traditional meals around a fire was the highlight. It’s an adventure that captures the essence of Finland’s natural beauty and charm, perfect for any backpacker craving something authentic. My rating: 4.5 ⭐️ out of 5!
